Soul Asylum - Fearless Leader Lyrics

Jesus was a hippie, peace and love was all he was about
That's why they killed him, cause that shit's something people can't figure out
Now some folks who worship him are the ones who would have cheered at the crucifixion
They got no conviction it doesn't matter if the man was fact or fiction

But who're you gonna call your fearless leader
Who's gonna put your fears to bed
Cause heroes will never let you down just as long as they're dead

Satan is a feeling, deviance it lurks in everyone
Guilty pleasures and mischievous behavior can be fun
But no one made you do it, nobody but yourself to blame
It's always at your door and trouble is it's name

But who're you gonna call your fearless leader
Who's gonna put your fears to bed
Cause heroes will never let you down just as long as they're dead

Sometimes you gotta pick and choose
Sometimes no matter what you lose

Nixon was a liar it's the one thing believed to be true
But Tricky Dick was not a crook whatever that means, whatever presidents do
Money can't buy you children and nothing can bring them back to you
We all make mistakes we all need someone to look up to

But who're you gonna call your fearless leader
Who's gonna put your fears to bed
Cause heroes will never let you down just as long as they're dead

thank you. I love this song. Best group. Best songs from the start to now. Best songwriter and musicians. Check out their later stuff. Stand out unlike the "same ole" you hear so much. I discovered them about 4 years back and immediately fell hard. I lived way out when my kids were small and had little music with what music was happening in the '90s. I stumbled upon them a few years back. Makes me laugh. Makes me think. They said they could be called "Real" and they are. Heartfelt poetry in reality.Beautiful.

I swear I've hear this before, but the only soul asylum single i had was runaway train and I'm pretty sure the b-side was "never really been". I'm so confused.

Dave Pirner a great voice fronting a great band, sadly not as appreciated as they should have and still should be, Dave made a great return to form on the Within Temptation album Hydra where he appears on Whole world is watching

I love that video and song.

gotta say though, near-perfect song/lyric, but i COULD do w/o the last part "When you run from fear you leave yourself behind
You can't dump your fears on someone else Cause it's all in your mind". running from fear is often a good thing, leaving that part of yourself behind might not be a bad idea. and also, of course, you CAN 'dump' fears on someone else. limbaugh and fox news are a couple examples. fear is one of the greatest tools of influence. other than that this is one of my fav songs.

The point is more often than not it's best to face your fears. As for not being able to dump your fears on someone else you're taking it way too literally. There are MANY types of fears that you can't dump on someone else because they are all in your mind and they don't affect anyone else.

Brilliant track, though how did this end up being a B-side for a mostly forgotten band?

no idea, david. such a great song.

    D.... S....

It eventually made an album. It's the final, yet unlisted or "hidden" track if you will on Silver Lining which came out in 2006
