Sonic Youth - Sugar Kane Lyrics

[Thurston]
You're perfect in the way, a perfect end today
You're burning out their lights, and burning in their eyes
I love you Sugar Kane, a-comin' from the rain
Oh kiss me like a frog, and turn me into flame
I love you all the time, I need you 8 to 9
And I can stay all night, yr body shining

And I know
There's something down there sugar soul
Back to the cross a twisted lane
There something down there sugar kane

I'm back again in love, I'm back again a dove
Where'd you get your light, your smilin' sugar life
Another lovers day, another cracked up night
Every night I say, the light is coming

And I know
There's something down there sugar cone
Back to the cross a twisted lane
There's something down there sugar kane

Hey angel come and play, and fly me away
A stroll along the beach, until you're out of time
I love you sugar kane, a crack into the dream
I love you sugar kane, I love you sugar kane
I love you sugar kane, I love you sugar kane
I love you sugar kane, I love you sugar

This alternative music was/is the alternative reality more real than the dominant culture of the time. This is instinctive.
It is still more real than the dominant crap going on today.
What is the honest to god perfect expression of the dominant media culture today. It is the computer age the info age, the age of paedophile, the age of terrorism, the age of black ( fighting racism with racism). There is no such thing as inequality. No shit!

What is the perfect expression of this .You gotta turn it into art

Thurston Moore always dedicated this song to Marilyn Monroe and Darby Crash. Except for one night in Austin in 1992. He dedicated it to Marilyn Monroe and to me (he pointed at me and said “and . . . Drew Barrymore” because of the hair I had then I guess). True story. I could have died happy right then

    I ❤️ Sonic Youth

  24. DesiranKehendak

Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Beck, Blur are some of the best samples of 90s sounds and looks. But Sonic Youth, boy they're on different level for me.

When I was in my sophomore year, discovering noise pop, skateboarding, any angst activity you can think of: I shaved my hair into a buzz cut. My inspiration was Mark Renton from Trainspotting but when I saw this music video; I was in love. With myself. Like a burst of self love and confidence rushed in me, I was like her, a punk cool cat that does whatever she wants even if it breaks social norms. Now that it's grown back to its long length, I cry inside knowing I can't shave it again. Mom's orders.

    Gam er

i was a sophomore last year and the most angsty thing ive done is buy a goo tshirt and smoke some weed. I gotta try harder

    Green Chicharrón

@Gam er Lucky you, man! Wish I had the shirt, might buy it this month or something. Also, I'm faking here, this literally just happened for me a year ago. I was a sophomore last year, too. So many phases.

    Gam er

@Green Chicharrón lol, just make sure you dont accidently order one from the UK, i live in canada and it took like a month oops

    Christian Cocco

All the more reason to shave it

  63. Maddie Lloyd

this is the only song i've ever heard

    Carl Brown

    Vague comment, great face!

  64. bernardo bringas

    Chloe Sevigny

  65. steve Steven

Their sound and riffs being used by many other.. or 90’s bands all sounds the same?

  66. Matt Caine

The first 15 seconds embodies the sound of Sonic Youth. That riff screams everything SY and it’s their signature.

  67. boom baby

03:40 The way they intentionally screw up this one chord in the progression, and how it makes it all much more nervous and exciting. Genius at work.

    Brdly Rbnsn

You want it to resolve, but it doesn't. Or at least not how you thought you wanted it to.

But in the end, you're better for it.

To me, that perfectly describes the essence of Sonic Youth.

  68. Mathias Hummer

You can really hear the Velvet Underground influence on this one in particular

  69. federico molina

    Favorite song by SY

  70. Victor vera el controlado

    sounds like another song

  71. Andrew Francisco

I bought a music magazine in the 90's about Nirvana and learned about Sonic Youth. I was a teen and a twenty something back then. The music was cooler back then and I could get a pack of generic cigarettes for eight-nine cents. A woman I know said she could not believe I listened to this stuff. She said she could not believe I was ever young. I even had a skateboard. I conclude Sonic Youth was the 90's Velvet Underground. Sonic Youth even had their own blonde eye candy too. I am going to listen to Nico right now. Peace.

  72. Albrecht Dürer Restposten

Top song, can't believe that I've just found out about them today!

  73. hrodric

That was Chloe Sevigny before giving head to Gallo. Great song.

  74. Jack Snorty

A little different than the album version. But that's ok.

    nick fit

Some of the noise is cut, to please the audience.

  79. Andrew Francisco

I remember this from when I was a teenager. Funny I listen to Sonic Youth still and Nirvana went by the wayside a long time ago. I am still haunted by Kurt Cobain though. I like the 90's. It was a period of discovery for me. I survived. Yeah!!!!!!

  93. mark rylander

being a teenager in the 90s was fun..this gave me goosebumps its been so long..back when people actually hung out, played guitars, went to shows and lit garbage dumpsters on fire while waiting in the bush for cops to show up..actual fun,no stupid cell phones,no internet, the only drugs around was good weed and the occasional chunk of hash,a smoking section in a coffee shop and everyone seemed more creative...anybody remember that?

    1552 77782

I remember this time. Travelling from Germany to Netherlands' coffee shops. Lots of fun. Iron Curtain hitten down. A time of creativeness and freedom.
As you say...internet is all around us now. No time anymore. No real creativity.

    Jamie

That's because you've gotten old. Teenagers today still do that stuff, just your reaction to it will be 'get off my lawn' rather than encouragement

  94. Jean Marc C.

    I love you Sugar Kane.
