Sonata Arctica - The Power Of One Lyrics
("My father's land,
My mother's tongue
Misleading me,
So shamelessly
For many years,
The hatred is the path for me.")
Father I have killed many angels,
I think.
I will now walk to the sea.
I hope I will someday forgive me
Please moor
My empty boat on a pier
I can blame for the blue blood that runs in my veins.
In your own blaze of hate you've spawn a fear in many lives
You've taken action thinking it was all said on the signs.
You cannot heal the feeling burning deep inside your spine
You now collapse, cave in revealing scabby marks of life
Mother I've seen too much, I hate to live my life.
Forgot every word you told me, stubborn little child, (angel of your life)
I have to find my Eden now, the gates I left behind.
But the pain will remain.
No power to gain.
Now I have time to dwell on, self-awareness, dreadful crime.
I saw colors too bright, not knowing that I was blind.
I slayed a man who took a chance and drank the forbidden wine.
The map I draw reveals that I have been complete, machine, in team.
Father I've seen too much, I hate to live my life.
Forgot every word you told me, stubborn little child, (angel of your life)
I have to find my Eden now, the gates I left behind.
The pain will remain.
No power to gain.
Mother where's your son.
When has this begun'
Who has been the fool'
No one was born to be a servant or a slave.
Who can tell me the color of the rain'
In the world that we live in, the things said and done
They can well overrun
The power of one.
No one was born to be a servant etc.
To leave and let die
To give hope and take life
Is that what you're here for'
To think you are right
To make sure it won't fly
Is a making of a hate crime
In the homes of the brave,
In the homes of the land slaves,
We are all the same
I need to believe.
There's more than the eye can see
All colors of rainbow.
No one was born to be a slave
Seek the past and place the blame
Tell me the color of the rain
No one was born to be a master
In the land we live, we die
Praise the oneness, praise the lie
To bind a web around the faker
We will need a true
Rainmaker
"Children of Abel, Children of Cain
Can live in harmony, without shame
The keys that I grant thee, The Sacred Land
Are dry desert sand on the palm of your hand
Without the water, the wisdom of past
Will run through your fingers, forgotten so fast
Thus now when I leave you, I'm truly blind
This blindness, this blessing, the hope of mankind..."

Anyone can tell me what this song is about? I dont even listen to SA cause i feel like theres heavier power metal out there but wow i think this is the most inspiring song i ever heard in life. As far as media goes id only get this inspired maybe from a movie etc
Inspired by a book (and there's a movie too, but Tony specifically told it's about a book he has read, even a few times)
This is the best song ever made. And Silence is the best album ever made, followed by Unia, The Days Of Grays, Reckoning Night and Winterheart's Guild.
IT is truly the best song ever created, even 17 years later, this song has everything, i mean everything, perfection.
Now I have time to dwell on self-awareness..surely, a dreadful crime! LL SA!

58 pollute-icians dislike this
6:10 is sooo great
Jason Paradise brought me here
THIS is power metal.
Greetings to Sandalphon's translator!
This song gives me a middle-ages vibe. I love it!
Almost near a decade since I heard this song for the first time, and it still stands tall as one of my all time favorite metal songs. I don't even listen to power metal all that much anymore, but this song has aged like good old wine, never boring to listen to.
Man, this is like a love letter to all the influential power metal bands, yet tells such a great story within itself. Very great stuff, a salute to power metal, past and future!
These guys are a great inspiration for my band, music wise.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, we lay Lorraine Rainey; in the *E*arths crust.
Cause quite frankly this woman and science were polar opposites. My dad can't sing ever? WTF? METHODIST CHECK IT THE FUCK OUT SCIENTOLOGY INSANELY BEAUTIFUL GIRLS. As in The Scientific Method is God and It Makes Religious Sense. The power of religion, and fuck off Forever Lorraine Dad joked 'didnt the matrix have good graphics" yeah totally dad how the fuck do you have that talk like 5 months after learning it it was just obvious to you and I was schiophrenic jesus. I was SCREAMING at my mom ITS THE FUCKING TRUMAN SHOW while she laughed about how arrogant I was about electing Obama? WTF? I begged to get out of being tortured in a FEMA camp and I figured McCain was obviously like "the better man metrically" even though obama was "the better man cosmically" so I was just going whatever the fuck Obama strikes me as really reliable as a human being *disclaimer to not affect politics as always* I GUESS. But yeah back to the subject FUCK YOU LORRAINE CREEPY STALKER SECOND COUSIN AT BEST.
Bill O'Reilly for life man ROFL nice "news" story look up Al Franklin's latest "deeds". I hate The Jon Stewart Show man zen is for cash cows.
This song got me through many an all-nighter in college.
It's a shame that they´re so underrated in my country. This is a HUGE eargasm since the beginning!
They're underrated overall...
I can't fuckin' touch the mic.
I hate that they don't have this on Spotify
C Robyn I was thinking the same!!!
Really well written song, but love the part when it kicks in the most between 5:52-6:41. Beautiful solos in this song as well. This is when they were at their best. Great album!
AMAZING SONG
Of everything that I listened from Sonata, perhaps these two strophes are the highest part of Tony's poetry and geniality:
"No one was born to be a slave
Seek the past and place the blame
Tell me the color of the rain
No one was born to be a master
In the land we live, we die
praise the oneness, praise the lie
To bind a web around the faker
We will need a true
Rainmaker"
This voice, this man, this poetry, this lyric. Fuck.
Just heard this live in southampton, was epic :D
"In the world that we live in, the things said and done
They can well overrun
The power of one."
Goosebumps. Every. Time.
When I joined the SA forums many many moons ago (what up SA GOON!!) I learned something fascinating when this song was chosen to be discussed as song of the week. (Mind you, this all happened around the time WHG was in the works...) According to Tony, at the time of its conception, The Power of One was the only song of theirs not written based on personal experience of the members, but rather on a book by Sharif Abdullah. A book that is still an illuminating read today.
This blindness, this blessing. The hope of mankind.
7:58 - 9:18 - brings me an inexplicable piece, added with the sound of rain. Oh my god, what a masterpiece!!!
melhor parte ^^
It's a wondeful song!
7:10 amazing solo
This fucking song got me through so much.
the best
5:52 - 6:40
+Jason Pharr You got a good ear mate.
there is no sun withouit moon
"This blindness, this blessing... the hope of mankind."
Always feel very emotional at that line.
hmmmm i dont necessarily feel emotional, i feel an urgent angry passion. interesting that you feel differently
6:40 to 7:10 is one of my favorite examples of rhythmic syncopation... of all time.... and it goes pretty hard too!
the intro is so similar to sweet dreams from marilyn manson(and eurythmics u know)
It's more like scorpions "send me an angel"
This song is simply amazing! And the part between 6:40 and 7:10 reminds me the songs of Dream Theater!
This is one of the best songs ever made
+SarothCyngus real
+SarothCyngus it is indeed!!! On the other hand...Wild Fire III...it's a blast!!!
fore sure
A melhor de todas
indeed just listen to to the words and music, gr8 :)
I was going to hit the "like" button, but then i relized that i had already done that months ago, lol.
The literal greatest song of all time
the poem at the end is incredible.. this entire song.. is incredible
Cuento corto...
Sonata es lo mejor!!!!
@teritriano Te recomiendo escuchar a Trivium vs Bullet for my valentine Guitar duel. Suena genial tambien ^-^
La mejor banda de power metal es Helloween sin discusion
Si Helloween es el mejor pero Sonata Arctica no está lejos
Holy hell this is good
One of their best songs imo, love it so much
i love the second guitar solo...so awesome ending taping
masterpiece
fucking masterpiece
wish they still composed shit like this today...fuck i am Prog-melodic metal starved right now. their recent album..fuck is terrible and i cant even remember the name of it. Angras new album Secret Garden is..meh..just fucking meh. Stratovarius' last work was mediocre. Symphony X...the gods only know when they will release something new. ATM, i am eagerly awaiting albums from Circus Maximus, Pagans Mind, Seventh Wonder, and Adagio. Should be a good year chaps..so keep your chins up.
@RAPEE APE not that i dont respect it but i just don't think justin bieber or nicki minaj's opinion outweighs yours for exsample, they have music experiance.. just saying
they dont write their shit. you respect guys like Opeth and Dream Theater..symphony X
they are gods for us fucking heathens to worship!
they didnt sell their souls for money in a corporate raped music industry that there is
@RAPEE APE
what do you mean?

I ended up reading this book because of the song. Great read!

Respect is what I give to these guys
i love this song

Through my life I've always liked sonata arctika, but I had never heard this song. And all I am thinking now is, wow, this is a masterpiece!
