Social Distortion - Untitled Lyrics

I'm heading down
A lonely highway
I'm running down
A one-way street
Well, I wanna know
Are you going my way?
Is there some place quiet
Where we can meet
And friends they come
And friends they go
But you were always by my side
And where it all ends
Well, I don't know
Don't cry no more, just hold on tight

There was a time
When I was desperate
Living in a town
Without a name
And when things got
So dark and desolate
You taught me how
To hide my shame

And kings and queens
And millionaires
May never know
What I have known
And thank the stars
I'm the lucky one
Thanks for the lessons
That I have been shown

I feel rich
I feel power
And security
And when I'm weak
You are strong
Once in a lifetime, twice
In eternity and guess what?
Nothing else
Matters anyway

I feel rich
I feel power
And security
And when I'm weak
You are strong
Once in a lifetime, twice
In eternity and guess what?
Nothing else
Matters anyway

The story behind this song (no wife, no Jesus...):

“Either I couldn’t think of anything else [to name it] or, probably, the song was so powerful and meant so much to me that putting a title on it would kind of make it smaller. That was really a song about when I got clean and sober. The guys who were who helped me get clean and sober, [were these] older guys from Pittsburgh. I ended up writing a whole chapter about it in my book (which isn’t done yet). One of them basically became my sponsor in AA and became a real father figure to me. He also really introduced me to doo-wop and old black music, and really helped me connect the dots with roots music. I was 23 years old so having an older guy in his 30s teach me how to play poker, get me into boxing, cars, or whatever, or just having me over for holidays… It was a very pure relationship. Unfortunately, in the same period, when he passed away, I had lost about four other friends within a three-year period so [the song] was kind of about all of that as well.”

  16. J.... H....

whether you believe that JESUS is the messiah or not, you will be judged when you die. YOU have been forewarned. Pain and suffering, or absolute joy. YOUR CALL.

    J.... H....

Jeffrey Hall I can’t wait to go to hell and hear great music. As if I believe in such nonsense... lol
Oops, I forgot Trump has us on a path to “heaven” !!! Fuck off and grow up !

  17. J.... S....

dedicated to my fallen brothers, Lawerence Jackson, Milford Hayes Thompson lll. thanks for the lessons that have been shown.

  18. J.... N....

Friends they and friends they go But you allways by my side that Jesus for you man

    J.... N....

He's talking about a close friend, a best friend. A friend that he had since childhood maybe. Sorry if you don't have that in your life, but he is not talking about Jesus.

  19. S.... L....

I definitely feel a strong connection to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when I play this song. Maybe I tailor the lyrics towards that for myself. But ness is definitely a believer. Twice in eternity. Nothing else matters anyway, only what you for Christ will last. I feel sorry for those of you that don't believe your missing out on the greatest thing this world has ever known Jesus our Lord.

    S.... L....

@Steffen Lomker no, I'm not. But good for you.

    S.... L....

+Gabriel Luz well Mike Ness definitely puts it into writing that he's a believer and not sheeple. you must not be prideful... basically what this song is. Biblical reference.

    S.... L....

Fantasies 2 float your boat... 'grass is always greener over there' nonsense =P

  20. C.... T....

This has to be my favorite song by Social Distortion.

    C.... T....

My favorite song of all time.

    C.... T....

Fucking powerfull ! My favorite too

  21. P.... P....

There is no Jesus reference in this song, I've listened to it many times and have heard no reference. I don't where you're getting this from.

    P.... P....

As a Non-Theist, I'd really like it if there was not one, but it sounds like he is referencing a paraphrased version of Hebrews 9:27 "It is appointed unto a man but once to die, and twice to live." (The actual verse says something to the effect of "Die once, then Judgment," but some Christians paraphrase it the way I quoted.)

Also, the whole song sounds like a 12-step poem to Bill W's nebulous "Higher Power." I still like the song in spite of this.

  22. L.... P....

This song just goes to show you, it doesn't matter how big and bad we appear, Jesus Christ is bigger than all. I appreciate Ness for writing and singing a song such as this. I've never heard a Gospel-Punk song before, until now. Good Job

    L.... P....

    @*****
I hope that is true, but a songwriter can write songs from a perspective other than his own. Case in point, I'm pretty sure "Man With The Dogs" is not autobiographical for Jello Biafra.

    L.... P....

+Harry Moe Lester dude. that's such an old clip... ppl change. He was still a complete arrogant prideful loser junkie in that clip.

    L.... P....

He doesn't directly say Jesus. He could B cheer leading 4 $atan 4 all U know... Maybe 'twice in Eternity' is about 'Lucifer' rising again? HAHA

    L.... P....

I guess this song is really for his wife... I don't think is about god.

    L.... P....

I wouldn’t say that these songs are intentionally “religious” songs. These songs are about life, Heart and Soul, faith and the Mystery of god. Sometimes you can make a correlation between secular music and Jesus Christ. But I assure you these songs are not necessarily about Jesus or Religion.

  23. t.... ....

this one is from the heart. Rugged and touching at the same time - a Man's life.

  24. g.... ....

    simply magical.

  25. B.... ....

    Great song
