This is Sneaker Pimps already beginning to take the darker approach by the influence of Chris Corner (IAMX). Don't know if I would really call this trip-hop at this point but rather darkwave / glam.

+Filip P. I do not necessarily put that trip hop, therm fairly generic aillor which defined several styles of music.
I just put what I like with a preference for the trip hop genre.
Anyway thank you for the precision ;)

Ah, how much I miss the sound of those few classic trip hop artists... Sneaker Pimps, old Portishead, maybe a bit of Massive Attack... hard to find a lot more than that, old or new. IAMX doesn't cut it for me and Elsiane and Emancipator are great but I need moooore.

maybe you should listen to the björk albums (post, homogenic) there were also some trip hop elements in.

A lot of other big artists had a trip hop influence at this time - even Depeche Mode briefly went in that direction with their (IMO underrated) 1997 album 'Ultra', which sounds quite unlike their other albums. They also had some tracks with that laid-back vibe on their 2001 album 'Exciter', even though they'd started going in a more blues-influenced direction by that time.
