I have to wonder if there are rights issues to this song these days because you cannot find it, or any of the songs from this album, on services like iTunes or Spotify. Back when MTV actually played videos! I was born in '80 and I remember a lot of shit from about '85 on. I lived in a small ass town of about 1,000 people or so. No one in town, that is that I knew of had cable, a person had to have a satellite dish. Anyway, my best friend Dusty had a satellite dish, and we use to beg his parents to let us watch MTV. Man it was fuckin' great!! I was a teenager in the 'Grung' era, and it fucking sucked ass! Well, happy listening to everyone! Let's keep this great stuff alive by passing it on!

The Hooters actually wrote this, when they were in a band called Baby Grand. But her version is so much better! I don't know if they're playing here or not. They wrote most of Joan Osborne's album, "Relish," also.

The Hooters play on the song and the album ... I think they're in the video, but they're not on camera long enough to tell for sure.

liselle sloan -Actually, the Hooters may be in the video but only the keyboardist and guitar played are on the actual music track, with Anton Fig playing the drum tracks, before he was in Letterman's band. The guitar solo wasn't the guy from the Hooters - or at least it wasn't credited that way on the album. Great song and I only heard it once before last week. It stuck with me for 30 years.

Another Philadelphia guitar player named Tommy Conwell played guitar on this track. Two more Philadelphians, Hooter Andy King and Kasim Sultan from Todd Rundgren's band, did backing vocals, also.

+C130 LM Good music is still being made, it just isn't getting played on the radio.  For one thing, Patty Smyth released a Christmas album in recent years.  There are some really good singers out there, currently, that aren't getting played on the radio.  For a current 80s style female rock singer, try Halestorm.  Their lead singer reminds me a bit of Lita Ford.  Other favorites of mine (singing voice wise) are:  Delta Goodrem, Roy Khan (Kamelot), Alexz Johnson, and Karine Hannah.

That would have been an interesting combination and could very well have launched her to mega stardom if it had worked. Not sure why she turned it down, not that Sammy Hagar was not a top vocalist.

Amen to that! Her vocals are beyond words, but I might add, it was more than that. Patty had a blend of things that made her a cut above the rest. A great band that launched her career, her voice, and her voice, also shot her to the moon. Then you had her solo career, you had her first album, which is one of the most underrated albums to be dropped in the late 1980's. No one gave her a chance on that album. Then, she dropped another epic album in the early 1990's with a single that featured Don Henley. I mean what the fuck is wrong with a person that can't give it up for her talent?! Oh, well fuck em', right? LMFAO

Sorry. It is an old phrase--used a lot in the Arthur Avenue area of the Bronx and I am sure other boroughs including Brooklyn. Similar to the phrase "he/she who he/she is." (meaning stuck up).
"What am I wood?" was used whenever one was slighted or thought they were being ignored. A common phrase back then. There's no secret meaning here.

Hoppin' in your car and having that wave of euphoric sound engulf you was pure heaven on earth. With the likes of Don Henley, Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper, Van Halen, Scandal, Prince, Bon Jovi, n on and on at your fingertips, as diverse as they all were, those tunes hit the summer sun like a hand in glove. I am still in the '80s as far as music goes because it is all I listen to. Class of '82 here and like you said it was good to be young right in the middle of all the great music.

So love this song-should've been a smash not only reaching #61 in 1987. This is actually a cover of a song by Baby Grand from the 70's which had both Eric and Rob from The Hooters. Different lyrics and much ballsier here, but the original is a good song as well. Patty rules-Franks? Thanks!
