Smith, Elliott - Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands Lyrics

Everybody cares, everybody understands
Yes everybody cares about you
Yeah, and whether or not you want them to
It's a chemical embrace that kicks you in the head
To a pure synthetic sympathy that infuriates you totally
And a quiet lie that makes you want to scream and shout

So here I lay dreaming, looking at the brilliant sun
Raining its guiding light upon everyone

For a moment's rest you can lean against the banister
After running upstairs again and again
From wherever they came to fix you in, but
Always fair city's finest follow right behind
You've got a pretty vision in your head
A pencil full of poison lead
And a sickened smile illegal in every town

So here I lay dreaming, looking at the brilliant sun
Raining its guiding light upon everyone
Here I lay dreaming, looking at the brilliant sun
Raining its guiding light upon everyone

You say you mean well, you don't know what you mean
Fucking oughta stay the hell away from things you know nothing about

One of his best tracks. Honestly, I think this one makes the album, if Waltz #2 didn't already.

    It's absolutely gorgeous.

why do you write the lyrics down to all of his songs

    R.... B....

    @Mal Maclachlan because he cares

  7. R.... R....

it starts like a home tape. then it grows

    R.... R....

Oh my God you are right! But the home record is only in the first half of the first song... Then it becomes universal and fills up the whole room after that. Amazing record!

    R.... R....

Wait... you were talking about this song... it does seem to be a theme in a lot of the songs in the record

I know man its amazimg I love all of his work but Roman Candle,XO,And from a Basement on the hill are just amazing records of course Either/Or is great but when i hear these other albums I hear this person in deep deppression and addiction its like Elliott at his deepest level and its so relatable it makes me happy to listen to I really feel like every walk of life can relate to this amazing music

@Jake Shaw well, basement wasnt really finished, so it didnt have the same feel.. compared to figure 8 at least..
and considering how depressed and drugged up elliott was towards the end.. im quite certain basement would have been a lot better.. also, while im writing this.. give "lou barlow - legendary" a listen.. a friend of elliotts, who wrote it after his death..

@Sue McQueen actually when Elliott was recording Basement on the Hill he was completely sober, no drugs, alcohol, refined sugar, or meat. He was doing good and it comes through the music on basement on the hill. Cheers!
