I'm an atheist and disappointed he gave up on rationality and reason. Do I think any less of anyone in this band? lol no, only a fool would say such. Realizing believing in something without the slightest evidence isn't easy, but some do move past childish fairy tales, and yet still come back to songs like these: We not only love the music itself, but the power of the lyrics, regardless of their faith, or lack thereof.

Beautiful song. And then you scroll down to see people going like "I used to like this band" or "They released some great music up until this one", etcetera. Grow the fuck up. If you don't like the idea of what he's put up there, or just the one of God in general, stay away.

I dont think this song is praising God. You'd have to be a close minded fuck to get to that point. Just because it mentions God and directly addresses doesnt mean it is praising him or promoting his belief. This is a conversation Sean is having with himself about his life and where it's going. It has that bluesy feel where he is just letting go but he is using God as that plane where he needs to talk to someone but no one is there for him. He fucking mentions it in the song for fuck's sake (with no one around) This is mostly spiritual not religious. It's about what you believe in.
Atheists, go back to listening to Anal Cunt or some shit and Christians, please move on, this song isnt for any of you two. Im not religious by any means and sometimes I vent by arguing with myself and cursing God for all the shit that has gone down but im not hating on him or religion, im just venting my sadness and frustrations. This song is one of my favorites as well as the band itself. I can just picture Sean in his balcony or something with his guitar just coming up with the lyrics to this. You gotta respect how heartfelt this song feels. The album's pretty damn awesome too. SES released some awesome back to back albums up until this one.

It doesn't change the fact that they are a great band. He literally speaks directly to the Lord and God.... You contradicted yourself and ignored the context of the song. He is very much speaking to God. He has in many other songs also. Here he also says he can't go on alone and requires direction; who else do you think he is talking to. Closeminded Fuck you are.

@inv1e You have to TRY to have a relationship with God. He's been calling you, He still is. Like a worldly father would, your Heavenly father is calling you to come sit with Him. And like the song says, it's hard to have faith with no one around. If you don't surround yourself with Christians (not "Christians" but devoted followers of Christ), then your already learned behavior won't let you believe.

who isnt against organized religion? the Bible is against organized religion. they were called pharisees. organized religion tries to get people to do something they dont want to. i dont like organized religion either. i simply want to follow God because at 23, after being arrested with pounds of weed, after being robbed at gunpoint bc we were drug dealers in my house with a shotgun to my head, after being addicted to pills and the party life at kent state....

honestly i don't think sean knows if he believes in a god. i think he is a very lost and confused man and he's just out there searching for something. he doesn't know what it is, but he's open to anything. i don't think he either denies or or believes in god.

I get preached at all the time and it is just nice to have a band who makes atheist music I can relate to, that is a rarity. Most bands make anti-christian music with no purpose simply to be shocking, such as say Manson. But it was nice to have intellectual atheist music to listen to. And now that band simply preaches as well.

i respect your opinion delbertmeadows, but that is a sad excuse to stop listening to an amazing band such as ses. seriously, if you don't like the song just don't listen to it. i didn't stop listening to them when i heard every sunday, the freaks are coming, or therapy ("there is no God that I have seen"). kinda hypocritical don't you think? we as christians get bashed all of the time for being outspoken, but atheists can be just as bad.

Worst song on the album. The record was great until I got to this song. As an atheist Smile was one of the few bands I could listen to and relate to but now this shit. I am no longer a fan.
