Smashing Pumpkins - Pennies Lyrics

And I stumbled onto you
As you stumbled over me
And you say the fates were cruel
For throwing us together
I always loved you so
Especially when you'd go

All the world must know
All the world must know
That I loved you so

It's a pity we're apart
It's a shame you broke my heart
But I've got a new girlfriend
She looks a lot like you, dear
No-one could ever do, dear

All the world must know
That I loved you so
Especially when you'd go
Especially when you'd go
Especially when you'd go away and leave me here
Go away and leave me alone
All the world must know

Pennies for sale

It's a great song, most of the b-sides and rarities stand out more than the singles.

I always wondered how the fuck they considered what was good enough to make it cause, especially in the Pumpkins catalog, I could make about five other albums that would be just as good, even not on par with what did make it.

@VitoGuido that's a good point, a lot of their demos and b-sides could have produced several records. I wonder how they did decide what the final cut of songs would be on the album, there's a lot in their back catalogue that was left on the cutting room floor to be put on these b-sides and rarities albums.

A lot of it has to do with the fact Billy wrote 99.9% of all the songs and Jimmy was an incredible drummer so he was able to keep up with Billy’s light speed work ethic. Both Billy and Jimmy would track, overdub, and moved forward and track more in another room upstairs while James and D’Arcy were bombarded with a lot of work to learn at their slower pace. A lot of these tracks on the B-sides are really just Billy and Jimmy.. sometimes James. But most of the time James and D’Arcy were down stairs overdubbing on tracks on M&IS.
They didn’t get the luxury of putting these songs on the official album because the band reached a level of success where lawyers, individual contracts etc were involved and they didn’t want another Gish/Siamese Dream incident. So they were forced to put out all the songs on the album that featured every member playing in every song.
