Smashing Pumpkins - Pale Horse Lyrics
If I was listen to I'd turn back
Give up on my reasons
Forgive up the past
You think I'd swallow that?
Bearing weight in ceilings
Thora Zine, Thora Zine, Thora Zine
They give you this
They take away that
Thora Zine
There'll be no others
There'll be no long lost friends
Empty on the insides
Empty of a last pretense
To stand by on feeling of the end
A runaway life
So many lies
When they locked you up they shut me out
Gave me the key so I could ahow you round
You were not allowed
Omens of the daydream
But caught as you're bound in Thora Zine
Thora Zine, Thora Zine, Thora Zine
They give you this
Thora Zine
There'll be no rallies
There'll be no long lost friends
Caught on a spotlight running out of present tense
To fix by an feeling of an end
So many lives
A runaway life
Please come back
Please come back
Please come back pale horse

Does the piano part sound familiar? Listen to this at the part where he starts saying "I'm just one wish away..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4f2VcOva4M

If I was to listen I’d turn back
Give up on my reasons
Forgive up the past
You think I’d swallow that?
Bearing weight in ceilings
Just to stop and ask of Thorazine

There’ll be no long lost friends
Empty on the insides
Empty of a last pretense
To stand by on feeling of the end
So many lives
A runaway life
So many lies
When they locked you up they shut me out
Gave me the key so I could show you round
Yet we were not allowed
Omens of the daydream
But caught as you’re bound in Thorazine
Thorazine, Thorazine, Thorazine

The bass here sounds amazing as most of the song in this album

Why do people keep putting spaces in thorazine
Police Scumbag, Police Scumbag, Police scumbag... pale horse...
beautiful song and i cant find it on spotify....help!!!
The same happened to my mother..I'm still calling her back, but will she awake 😟
Beautiful melody... but this music gives me anguish
lmao 2019?
charly garcia, aznar, gustavo cerati - vampiro. buenos argentina 1991
i think it was early christian or pagan belief that Death rode his pale horse
I think it is great to be a part of a musicians evolution. Billy can do no wring in my opinion. Great drum, great guitar, great vocals and lyric. I find his creativity amazing.u can't expect a musician to replay old tunes all the time. Or tour on songs from 25 years ago.
Please come back D'arcy!!
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG I LOVE IT
i fuckin love this song
I think this was Billys song to virgin records for handing him down for aging as a rockstar and the company wanting the new younger bands to make the company money again, not thinking SP had the songs anymore.. how wrong they are.. Billy is the genius of my generation not eddie vedder not chris cornell.. because they dont have the songs in my opinion.... rawk on 4 life pumpkinhead since 93
Agree 500%
The Pumpkins always hit me in the feels. I was sold the first time I knew their band name and have been since.
BROOKS 74
This ALBUM should have won a Grammy... no doubt.
This and Melloncollie!
I really like it. His song's always have so much meaning.
They sound good. A lot better than the music I here going down the street. You know, the kind that sounds like something or someone is banging on the trunk trying to escape.
1:30 could have been strait out of mellon collie and the infinite sadness
A classic Billy Chant
+TheDanimator o so right would have fit right in!
It fits perfectly right where it is.
This song is one of Billy's saddest and most personal songs. Its about his mother...she was commited to a mental hospital when billy was just a kid. Thorazine was handed out like candy at asylums especially back in the day...hes singing about her bound to a cot and he pleading for her to come back to him. Once you understand the contents of the lyrics it really gives the song a lot of emotional weight.
@Ricardo Longo That's what I thought, too. I thought it was about him considering letting her back into his life or the band ("If I was to listen/I'd turn back... Forgive up the past... You think I'd swallow that?"). But I think the mother interpretation is more honest. That said, as anyone who's seen photo's of D'Arcy or read about her arrests can attest, the other interpretation probably isn't that far off.
Let's stick with D'Arcy interpretation, just to piss her off ;)
+J Money It is to me the darkest and saddest song ever written by Billy Corgan.
That is really sad 😞
Your message is touching me, makes me cry; Billy has had a hard life.
I learned about this songs meaning from this post a year ago. Read it again after knowing more from my own research. Thanks mate.
Americans really need some...
Plea scumbag, plea scumbag, plea scumbag, plea scumbag, plea scumbag, plea scumbag, plea scumbag...
weird hip hop kinda beat
Not even close
Yeah wtf
Hell no
Very Cure sounding. Awesome at that. Much better than some of their harder stuff IMO.
Baffling Barnacles I love the cure, Smashing pumpkins and the cure are national treasures
i8 luv it
i luv it
People keep complaining about new Smashing Pumpkins, what's wrong with this? Yeah, it's slow, but they've always had slow songs lol. That's usually how rock acts age anyway
Imagine how many times he's faked it for just one more show through good times and bad! Props to Billy and Company! It's a Long Way to the Top .. if you want to rock and roll!
Nice re-worked version of Have Love Will Travel, the 'Unknown Instrumental' from the Mellon Collie sessions.
Bit of stretch....I get what you're saying with the tempo and the piano melody, but that's about it. It's not uncommon for artists/songwriters to use bits and pieces from previous work to create new material. But Mike and Nicole add a new dimension to this that wasn't in the Mellon Collie out take.
Wow, glad I missed this when it came out. This whole record is mind numbingly boring.
+Matt Poserman
Quasaar and Panopticon aren't :-)
Your mind is probably numb and boring due to lack of intelligent thought and ability to appreciate art. Just my 2 cents worth. Not worth much considering that assholes are a dime a dozen. Still, I feel compelled to plead with you to refrain from getting your panties in a bunch. Open your heart and give yourself to the art of life. Your mind will follow.
awesome song I think the weakest link of the SP line up is the Billy Iha replacement. He's too polished whereas Iha was less technical but more imaginative in his notes.
@aaron ballard no he didn't? Mayonaise and a lot of Mellon Collie was done with James
@Lemmy Koopa Mayonaise was. Take me down was. Blew was. The rest was ALL Billy. James wasn't tight enough to play on the albums for the most part. Look it up.
@aaron ballard Doesn't mean he didn't help WRITE the riffs.
I know Billy PLAYED Siamese Dream, but not every single song was written just by him.
I know that Billy is the biggest driving force behind the Pumpkins, but give credit to where it's due.
Either way, even though Billy does most of the work, the new stuff might have nice songs, but it'll never have the execution that the original albums had.
+aaron ballard It's not that he wasn't good/tight enough, it's just Billy could record them quicker
Billy iha and billy Chamberlain will always be the tr00 SP
Oceania... Fucking great
WOW!!! I hope they stick this track on the next version of "Red Dead Redemption". This is a fantastic tribute to Spaghetti Western soundtrack greats like Ennio Morricone who were way ahead of their time. So awesome to hear great artists like Billy Corgan continue this tradition at least in this one song. Damn...I need to find myself a good Dan Electro baritone guitar ASAP. This song inspires me to start writing in that obscure and ignored (but AWESOME) music genre.
Not a good song for red dead sound track sorry lmao
And no idgaf how old the comment is my point still stands
I even took guitar where they used to play in the 80s.
Billy said on CNN it is about the loss of his mom.
Btw he lived 5 minutes from me.
It's a shame that your dad didn't go to school with Billy.
My dad went to high school with the bassist (Nichole)
beautiful song!
i came out the rome gig feeling like a was a mental.
it's actually a pretty good album
This whole album is a choice to make SP relevant to now. Artistry of BC. I do miss JC. But I too am an lead/guitar which bonded w/ a world class jazz drummer in rock... nothing like it.
best tune on the album
I think it's about death as well. Pale horse is the horse the Horseman of Death rides on. So, it's possibly about a friend that committed suicide?
wow if im right and may very well b far from it, this song about someone who's lost it (their mind) and been prescribed the drug thioridazine an anti psychocotic given for schizophrenia/dementia and other brain disorders........... just a guess as the repeated word sounds like thioridazine any 1 know??
Fluorescein
Fluorescein
Fluorescein
Fluorescein
@Scott Dufour incorrect dude
Or maybe Smashing Pumpkins Maturely
Did you have a good night? A few friends and I are going to see them in Wembley arena next month. Can't fu**ing wait!
the best song i've heard from theirs since machines of god album
Fucking awesome song I love it soo damn much.
This song makes me think of the sort of lament for a former way of life that was full of novelty, mystery, excitement, and a reckless searching that led to madness. It is the parting with the freedom of that former life; the Garden is closed, however, and once a threshold is crossed there is no returning. One can no longer heed those ephemereal voices, to do so would be to go back to that depth of madness, but to live a life of hollow quasi-comfort on thorazine... it will be never be like b4.
i think this is the greatest song i heard in the last few years, my interest in music is back. maybe i was hanging around with the "wrong" music too long..
Nah I completely agree. Today the Business isn't about Music at all, it's just about making Money now, and the majority of Artist have the same frame of mind. As you said, back then, Musicians were more of a Family with each other and respected their work along with everyone elses. The 80's definitely hold a special place is many peoples lives, and always will. Each decade the Music industry just gets worse and worse, apart from a few surprises here and there on rare occasions.
I like The Celestials. I'm seeing Smashing Pumpkins live wednesday :)
I think the 70's and early 80's were nice. Before political correctness, cell phones, computers. It was a different time, it seems like people were closer and trusted each other more. It was before the Crack and Meth epidemic, before AIDS etc, etc.
There was less music, but for some reason it meant more and was more important. But that's just my view.
Curious on what decade you would rate the highest?
Same here.
This is definitely my favorite song from Oceania.
Caveman D-N-A mine is my love is winter
I am enjoying introducing the greatness of the Smashing Pumpkins to my beautiful daughter . We listen to this together , what a wonderful gift . Thank you Billy and the Smashing Pumpkins .
Pale Horse!!! nice!!!
To all you people stuck in the 90's, (which was a shit decade) I've got 2 words for you.....Things Change. Why don't you go put an album together? You only need a computer, a good mic and some software. Pshhh.
These Pumpkins are not very smashing anymore...more like Gentle Pumpkins
man corgan, seriously you had the right method in the 90's stop this shit! we all know you have one more great pumpkins album in you. enough of this mellow bullshit. go back to your old mentality and methods and show us all you still have it!
Please, enough. Stop this smashed pumpkins ...
What is your problem
wtf...this is shit...they dropped the ball on this one
I think this song is about Billys past lover Yelena Yemchuk, his "pale horse"
Nah it's about drugs
Consistency defines the great artists.
Billy Corgan is a great artist.
I saw them perform Pale Horse last night. Concert totally blew my mind. Hadn't seem the Pumpkins since the 1st Lollapalooza. They rock today like they did back then. They rocked the way they always will.
è un album FANTASTICO !!!!
This intro reminds me so much to Legend of Legaia <3
billy is always there when most needed, with great songs, great compositions, thank you for everything always
beautiful good album (:
beautiful....billy's best work in years...classic, gorgeous....i live it. billy is a genius.
Good, but not the Smashing Pumpkins...more like Billy Corgan and the Studio Musicians.
Glad you agree. :D And this song really takes me back to Beware, the Nightmare
Coldplay are pop shit! and this doesn't sound like pop.
I concur, especially this song. new new wave
This whole album seems like it'd be right at home in the 80's alongside Tears for Fears and Echo and the Bunnyman. Love Pumpkins, and love this direction.
Adore is a classic !!!
Oh wow, three seconds in and I already knew I would love it. (Elvengirl)
Es lo peor de los SP de largo, o de Corgan mejor dicho. Que plano e insulso se ha vuelto cantando. Si por algo se caracterizaba era por los matices que les daba a los temas su forma de cantar. Ahora no eso
Why is this not up
BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song reminds me of Adore, in good ways!
sick 1!!!
going to see them tonite in Edmonton, will post later <3
Saw them live last night in Winnipeg, BEST CONCERT EVAR!!!!!!!!!!
Is like Pink Floyd with The Cure, awesome song!! masterpiece.
wow this song is amazing!!! thanks Billy!!!!!
I cant listen to this enough.
bought this album without knowing it existed lol. glad i found it, wonderful band
bad coldplay? Fuck that, coldplay doesn't deserve to be mentioned around SP.
I know how you feel. I have stopped looking for another great Pumpkins album. It isn't coming. However, Billy will leave us a great song here and there. He's, at the very least very prolific, and over the years, we'll end up with a few diamonds in the rough.
