Smash Cast - The Goodbye Song Lyrics
[Jimmy:]
The time has come
I'm flying away
Mouth is numb
Heart don't know what to say
And although I'll be out of sight, dear
Know I'll be right here
Right here forever, ever, ever, ever
When you look to the night skies
Don't think of goodbyes
Think how I'm right here ever, ever, ever
[All:]
Come
[Jimmy:]
No, you can't come with me
[All:]
Stay
[Karen:]
I wish I could
[Karen & Jimmy with Hit List Cast:]
Goodbye aye-aye-aye
[Jimmy:]
I know it's hard to say
[All:]
Come
[Karen:]
No, you can't come with me
[All:]
Stay
[Jimmy with Hit List Cast:]
I wish I could
[Jimmy & Karen with Hit List Cast:]
Goodbye aye-aye-aye
[Jimmy:]
I know it's hard to say
[All:]
Ow
[Jimmy:]
I know it hurts to say
[Karen:]
I'd stay if I could
But the universe won't let me
So please be good
And don't you forget me
[Ana with Hit List Cast:]
And although I'll be out of sight, dear
Know I'll be right here
Right here forever, ever, ever, ever
[Jimmy & Ana with Hit List Cast:]
When you look to the night skies
Don't think of goodbyes
[Ana with Hit List Cast:]
Think how I'm right here ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever
[All:]

Smash Cast The Goodbye Song Comments
I love this. Reminds me of BMC closing night.
Me coming here from the BMC final bows knowing what kinda pep to expect vs everybody here from Two Player Game being sad and shook
The version an ex friend sang to me after freaking stabbing me in the back... bitch..
I like George and Joe's version better sorry
Poor deaf idiot
Ok I know a lot of people are comparing this version with the George Salazar one while not knowing what this is from or about and I would like to just give a bit of background about it. This song is from season 2 of smash (a tv show). The song is from a fictional musical written for the show. In the show it’s the last song and before it is a really sad song. I don’t remember for sure but I’m pretty sure the creators of this musical in the show wanted to end the show with a bang and although the lyrics are sad, didn’t want it to end so depressing. Watch smash to understand more (it’s also a really great show)
JOE ICONIS DESERVES RECOGNITION FOR THIS
jfc y'all stop spamming the comments with george salazar im doubting most of you have watched smash. comment your opinions when you watch the show.
Dear Sophia Smith THANK YOU! I’m not saying his cover is bad but they are both so different. Everyone’s commenting it’s too upbeat when they have no idea about what hitlist is about or how jimmy and Kyle intended the musical to sound (they also don’t know who jimmy or Kyle is)
I prefer the George Salazar version but good job
People focusing on the difference in tone from this and George Salazar's cover. but we have to hand it to Joe Iconis for writing lyrics that can be interpreted in so many different ways. Heck even Michael in the Bathroom when comparing Will roland and Georges covers, Will represents anger, hurt and betrayal (similar to how Jared and Alana feel in the song "Good for You" from DEH) while George represents the anxiety and insecurity of Michael's panic attack (which I think is probably a Anxiety attack instead of a panic attack since it has a trigger but oh well)
Wait omg I just realized it was Jeremy Jordan after listening halfway and reading the picture 😂 how is he everywhere with the stuff I’m listening to
Tbh Jason Sweettooth Williams’ cover was better no shade
Joe really wrote an E.T. fansong and had it aired on national television
Wow I definitely interpreted this song wrong. I had no clue it would be this upbeat and peppy. I think both George’s and Jeremy’s are very amazing pieces but they both have different meanings.
Jeremy's?
Afro jeremy Jordan’s, the guy who says “the time has come” in this version.
also think he’s one of main actors of smash, but don’t quote me on that because I haven’t watched the show
I don't know what George's meaning is... this one is about death
My goodness, I cried when George sang this
Damn George Salazar made it sound so sad
Nope, Jeremy, Kath and co, with Jo's writing made it sound.
fuck
fuck
compare this and the one in two-player game.
WHY
WHY IS ONE LIKE IS SOMEONE DYING ??
WHY IS THE OTHER ONE SO HAPPY
this version of the song is too peppy lol
I love this song. But I really dislike the upbeat music with the sadder more emotional lyrics. With some songs it works (Pompey) for example. But it does not work well with this song. I MUCH prefer the Two player game Joe iconic and George Salazar album Verizon
In the show the character writing it wanted it to be more upbeat to make the show go off with a bang to show that even though someone is gone that doesn’t mean they’re role in your life has been erased.
You're stupid
oh my god 😂😂I've only heard the cover by George Salazar and I had no idea this song was so peppy, its beautiful 😂
Nerdstablook 13 I’m not a huge fan. The more emotional lyrics do not work well with the upbeat music in my opinion. I much prefer Gorge’s
dont mind me. coming here because of Two Player Game(Joe Iconis' and George Salazar's album)
blizzardwolf 970 yeah exactly
@Disney Fan 626 For context, this song was the finale in a (fictional) Broadway show in Smash. It's supposed to sound like this - the show is kinda based on the upbeat feeling.
@Disney Fan 626 I like Jeremy's and the other's voices i think they sound good
blizzardwolf970 the last celebration feel was the bmc closing version
Still Listening In 2017((:
kristi barker 2018 man. I came because of the Two player game album
this song is amazing but no offense, it has NOTHING to do with graduation.. wtf
Chris K. Thank you
Want this sung at my funeral
just left Italy after an exchange program & this really hit home for me
Smash love forever!
I miss smash...

My friend and I are singing this at his going away party 😢😌

This was sung at my brothers graduation. It's soo good!
0:47-0:49 will always remind me of my Asian friend Eric's singing
Archbishop Ohara Missouri?
+Portia Rockers yepp, Hi Portia
+highwire33 hi 😂. That's awesome that it's a fellow Ohara person
: get on itunes already!
jason ngam George Salazar/Joe Iconis version available!
I feel like this a perfect graduation song. The song can be taken as a departure from the physical world but reading the lyrics over it doesn't necessarily have to be taken that way. For instance someone's friend is graduated from high school and they [The friend] is an underclassmen or rising senior and wants to go with the graduated senior to college, being with them for more time. They can't go to college with them but they remember them in the school setting and they [graduated senior and friend] will reunite again at some time.
@Lexi M. That's so sad but uplifting at the same time! I'm graduation in June and I have so many friends who are sophomores. When I committed to college they all were so happy but were literally crying at the same time, knowing I was leaving! I love this song!
theaps514 my friend sang this in his theater class for the final project when he was a senior.
Me and my friends are singing this at our theatre banquet for our senior song!
theaps514 I had the same thought. I mean not the story part but you know what I mean
Still sad however you look at it.
Aw that sucks
Joe Iconis lol.
Only for two performances though. :(
It's going to be a real musical! Featuring Jimmy and Kyle too!
who's the original from?
I still can't believe this is a cover! I had no idea Joe Iconis didn't write this for the show!
I so want Hit List to be real.
Going to miss this so much! Would love to see Hit List and Bombshell in live theater!
wishing it was still on TV!
I loved this show
Theyoungrealist I know right!!
This show has been canceled, but Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is still airing? Makes no sense
I wish there was going to be a Hit List show... maybe there should be a kickstarter (it worked for Veronica Mars, right?)
Let's be entirely honest here, the songs were excellent but the writing for the show's characters really went downhill. Jimmy was poorly written and they seemed to have run out of filler ideas.
But both the musicals were great and I'd love to watch them live.
Lil you are a fugly slut. Bless your heart
You can't expect a network to keep a show on when four episodes straight it had 1 million views. From the 1st Season to the Second the views went down, until of course the last four when it went up to 2 million. Although I loved the show I don't blame the network for not wanting to put in more money on the show.
I'm in a glass case of emotion
money and ratings :(
This show was so great. I'm really going to miss it.
I agree 100%!
This will go down as one the best songs in television history! Cancelled or not, you made history. Bravo!
Its amazing that 4 million viewers is not enough to keep a show on the air these days. Its all about money...money...money and more money. However if it was all about the art then maybe it might have been possible to produce this for less than $3 million an episode...wtf!
I'm gonna miss this show...beautiful song
this song is AH-MAZING
