Is it crazy (ironic) how at the apogee of his success (and him actively ruining all of it, from what this album cover claimed to prize with its cover, to his concert career) he does a song about Job's posse, when he was to BECOME the Job of black music to this day)?

Sly Stone was funk music's first superstar, a lot of acts followed him and wanted to be just like him.

James Brown helped to build the FUNK HOUSE, Jimi & Sly cased the joint, George Clinton & RickJames kicked the mother fuckin' door in....Prince creeped in the back door, set the place on fire & took over the joint!

With the 30th anniversary of Paul's Boutique coming up, I've been listening to all of the original music that they used for samples. What a funky learning experience it's been!

I was working with my pet turtles this morning, noting that their shell-segments (scutae) are shedding, as they eat and grow. These segments become VERY loose ... and suddenly I found THIS SONG ON INVOLUNTARY "BRAIN RADIO"!!
So I had to listen to it.

I just read an article stating  this album "Small Talk" is under rated. This song and Time For Livin' were mentioned as stand out tracks. I liked this one the best and although it mentioned the Beastie Boy's sampling from this, the riff reminded me of another song. I had to think about it a little while before it came to me. Eminence Front by the who (Pete Townsend)

I think your bible might be defective. The book of Daniel was written over a hundred years before Christ was born.The story of Shadrach and crew is even older than that. Might as well call those guys the 3 wise men or the 3 stooges if you're going to call the guy with them in the furnace Jesus.  Dummy.

a kid who was about 12 years old that we were in a Saturday bowling league with said that when she got married she was going to have a soul wedding & that she was going to dance down the aisle to this song. she demonstranted. home girl could dance like Demita Jo Freeman from soul train. the "good old days"... saturday mornings... couldn't leave the house til it was fully cleaned & when it was you could have the rest of the day to yourself. lol... this song is a funk masterpiece.

This was one of our favorite songs growing up. We used to be in a bowling league at Rodeo bowl in los angeles back in the day. My sister & I will never forget one of our team mates who knew how to dance like any soul train dancer & said that she was going to come down the aisle on her wedding day to this song....LOOSE BOOTY. She was all of 13 at the time. Hilarious how you feel grown when you're a kid.

Amen..I was lucky enough to see Rusty live in '75, and he was killin'. He was more like Stanley Clarke than Larry Graham, though :-) But, the best Sly bass part of all time (in my opinion), is the one that Sly himself plays on "In Time".

O.K. Then!!! Well I tell U what FAM...Rusty had that BASS speakin in tongues...That BASS SPOKE that day....And told U the moral.....especially from 2:25 to the out...it PREACHED!! PEACE!!
