Slum Village - Hold Tight Lyrics
[Q-Tip:]
Hold tight, this is the last time you hear me
I'm out now, this is the last time to cheer me
Niggas in the game is getting too slimy
Liable to make this peace brother turn grimy
Take it away from where it comes from now
A lot of you cats in the music business
Shiftless, I'll put you on the shit list
Did your intuition say to shit on me?
I'm a just flip your ears, yo you hear me b?
D'Angelo play your piano
Jay Dee flip another beat for me
Hold tight with Baatin and my nigga T3
Busta Bus, watch out for who you trust
Ali Shaheed, it's your blood that I bleed
It's the Umma shit fo real till there's no more light
All you foul motherfuckers change your wrong to right
Make sure y'all bring your music to the area flight
Hold tight
[Hook:]
Hold tight... [repeat]
[Dilla:]
Hold tight get ya ass back what ya did, yo
Hold tight the SV what ya did, yo
Hold tight you don't pay attention man
That's why your money is the size of your attention span
Yo there's something I gotta mention, damn
Who the fuck is this sitting in my session man?
This is my project, ho, on some MC Shan
Not yours, what's your intentions man
Probably bootlegging my tape at a concession stand
What the fuck, niggas never learn their lesson, man
I try my best not to hold the Smith & Wesson, man
But I gotta hold something cause niggas test you man
Anyway yo keep it moving keep the questions and
Maybe I can bless you with the test presses man
Until then, hold tight
[Hook]
[T3:]
Guess who's making this cheese this cash this dust
So much cash in my hand that I got paper cuts
I'm trying to become a winner trying to get with us
That's one of the reasons I had to fuck you up
I caught you people at my window trying see what I'm doing
So I pulled out the 45 and commenced to start shooting (see ya)
See I miss with every dilla cause young were keeping it moving
Now that's some root news and now watch what you're doing
So hold tight
[Hook]
[Baatin:]
You don't understand
I've been doing this shit since Duran Duran
Now I'm a make some more paper cash, God damn
I'm outta this, cause you don't appreciate
I step up in the place trying to cultivate
You sipping on your tanqueray whilst we levitate
You ain't got no reason to celebrate
You caught up in my trap, sealing your fate
Never was it once you co-operate
Was last you just self destruct inside your hate
I hope you're feeling better now
Hold tight to my rhyme, nigga don't cry
It's alright you can move at your own pace
Altogether now
Hold tight
[Hook]

Who is that mc sham or mc shan??
Mc shan - project ho.
This is nasty had my face twisted during Q-Tip's part 🔥
feeling like i found gold listening to this in 2017
still on repeat
Santos was here
"So much cash in my hand that i got papercuts."
this beat is so mellow and smooth at the same time. sadly most music these days are too digitalized and generic sounded it doesn't have the warmth and smooth beats like it had in the past analog feel.
Slum Village Forever Dilla rest in power 🎧🎤💯🙏🔥
J Dee flip another beat for me
timeless bomb . rib Dilla
This was playing on Music Choice and the year said 1997. Is that true? (It does fit the sound)
Slum Village and Tip go hand in hand like spaghetti and meatballs
David Caetano like mac nd cheese
love the refernece to tribe
this a dope ass track
Thanks for the great upload mate : )
its Dope how Phife Dawg used this beat and Q-Tip flow on Dear Dilla
Man you don't know how much q tip and dilla and busta and shaheed meant to phife. They are all his family. It's sad how he died.
You don't understand how sad Dear Dilla gets me. He used dillas song, flipped it and dedicated it to him and Baatin, and later died. Oh man...
"Yes Phife, for you I will give my life." - damn, this hurts...RIP Phife Dawg.
straight pimped out soul.....hip hop 2016
THE UMMAH!!
Ali Shaheed it's your blood that I bleed
Yes Phife, for you I will give my life
That shit gets me every time
+Angelo Colon-Droz Funny...eveytime this track pops into my head...it's that exact part
Even heavier now, RIP Phife Dawg
Dilla completly murdered this shit. Perfect beat and flow. RIB Dawg
moody good sampled this :D
dilla so dope for sampling kc and the sunshine on this track
So I just had the honor of listening to T3 in an interview backstage at Cervantes in Denver...and he gave inside story on how they come up, talking about how Q Tip was fundamental in SV being put on the map. Stuff he shared, was so eye opening to me, I had no idea they opened for the Love Movement Tour for Tribe... but now I listen to these lyrics, and this song has taken on a whole new meaning and level of significance. Love this whole crew, how they think, why they think, and there steadfastness to keep the movement going, bringing up and comers along the way in order to carry on the legacy. Real men, real hip hop. Don't ever stop!
mobb deep used to sit outside record labels just handing out there cds and in a recent interview they said it wasnt till q tip agreed to give there cd a listen that they got the opportuunity to get into the right circles and get there music out! the man
This is my all time favorite song from Slum Village. Timeless classic. RIP Baatin and Dilla.
D-D-D-DILLA DAY COMING

best track on the album
Dilla produced this whole album?
Kaleb G yes except that one track with Pete Rock
Are you talking about Once Upon a Time? Because I think Dilla actually produced that one using a Emu - Sp 1200. Please correct me if I'm wrong because I've never heard that Pete produced that one.
Wow. My first time hearing this tune and I love it.
loooooooooooooool
0:17 - 0:24
oh snap dilla is drop bars
you went to far on that one
Q-tips voice is hip-hop*
Man that was gayer than to gay guys doing anal inside of a Chip n' Dale's watching Brokeback Mountain starring Perez Hilton and Frank Ocean. But yes I agree.
that second verse is Dilla, the best verse I have heard in hip hop.
Q-Tip is the man but the second verse on this is my shit though
That's dilla

"So much cash in my hands I got paper cuts"
We as people need to go back to how we used to be with the help of this music make people be more aware in life and society, this is intelligently crafted music that we as people need to get out to people for the sake of our music industry and the future of good music. We need to start a hip hop revival. I'm an up and coming rapper trying to do just that check out my page ill be posting more stuff, but I want to focus on bringing real hip hop roots back to the world.
im glad its not mainstream...so it wont turn to a bullshit fad
wish this kinda hip-hop was mainstream...we'd be so better off if people payed attention to this instead of tha baby babble bullshit

I can't believe that I'm just now discovering all of S.V.'s music - I copped tha Trinity cd when it came out, what like 2002 or sumthin, I didnt even know about their other joints.....Thanks YouTube....
why dont they play this on the radio. i blame suburban america and college kids. all they wanna listen to is wayne and shit. and if you try to turn them onto some real hip hop they think it sucks -__-
