Slowdive - Some Velvet Morning Lyrics
Some velvet morning when I'm straight
I'm gonna open up your gate
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
and how she gave me life
and how she made it in
Flowers growing on the hill
Dragonflies and daffodils
Learn from us very much
Look at us but do not touch
Phaedra is my name
Some velvet morning when I'm straight
I'm gonna open up your gate
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
and how she made it in
Some velvet morning when I'm straight
Flowers are the things we knew
Secrets are the things we grew
Learn from us very much
Look at us but do not touch
Phaedra is my name
Some velvet morning when I'm straight
Some velvet morning when I'm straight

Slowdive Some Velvet Morning Comments
An outstanding version of this old Lee Hazlewood song
'' My dying bride'' did an amazing cover of this song.
this is my favorite cover of the original track. I even like it more I have to say :)
No, sorry..doesn't cut it!
Why don't you show us how it's done
Temaso, insuperable lee... pero esta version.. VUELA!
How in the hell could anyone dislike this. Are you fricken crazay?!!!
I love Slowdive and this is a fine cover, but I wish they had somehow included the brief sweeping strings in the intro of Sinatra & Hazelwood's original.
I love the original but at least Slowdive didn't make the ending stupid, this is how it should end.
How is the original ending stupid?
a good cover is by Lydia lunch
I love Slowdive but this sounds so confused it's not very good. they didn't change anything about the style, only added the shoegaze necessaries. not so creative
No sé cuál versión es mejor :(
Lee Hazlewood's version is great in an entirely different way. Never the less this is a great rendition
I think Lee's voice is an integral part of what makes this a great song. I like this version and encourage remakes of this iconic number.
I would like to hear a really strong heavy guitar based version.
Slowdive is great, and so is this cover. I'm just not digging the ghostly sound effects when Rachel starts singing.... Wtf?!
This shouldn't even be called a cover, it's just too different.
@The Regulator It is not uncommon for artists to personalize songs in a format that is more representative of their sound.
+Ricky X It is a cover
That's exactly what a cover is you dingus
what's the point on making the exact same thing
I love how you used the word cats .
the refrain reminds me of the Beatles "we can work it out" refrain/bridge part.
woah, true
SOUBLAKI,DEN XORTENEIS NA TO AKOYS XRONIA TORA
sonic youth are legends, clown.
vanilla fudge did a cool cover of this tune
I didn't even know that this was a cover, I love Slowdive, they're 1 of my fave bands of all time.
:)
@ibizapao κι εγω κατι τετοιο σκεφτηκα :Ρ :Ρ :Ρ
@chaileywatts I disagree, the worst is the one by Emtombed. The original is awesome though.
@costinnee Sonic Youth are con artists. These cats are the real shit.
Good cover
sonic youth !!
Very Good !!!!
FANTASIC ALBUM
bunch of nerds lmaooo
@chaileywatts
Truly you are not including Beloved Enemy? Perhaps one of the best covers of all time, amazing, hypnotic and art as song. I agree with you on this one however.
@louiscarruthers the only thing about the TWR cover though was that they thought they were just too cool to cover Nancy Sinatra's part :(
@chaileywatts have you heard the thin white rope cover?
@brianartillery Stuart Maconie came up with the phrase 'Britpop'.
I love this version, but, as mentioned above, the original rules. Slowdive were part of the pre 'Britpop' movement, which was named, probably by an NME hack with too long a lunch break, 'Shoegazers' as the bands tended to shuffle about on stage not making eye contact with the audience. The now defunct music mag SELECT always used to put: Slowdive, with sad little Rachel [sniff] Cruel, but always funny.
@mase1116
exactly!!!
Oh yeah,,,,,,,,,,,,, this is good. Real good!
I have not heard the original version of this song, but I love the way that slowdive did it. So dreamy and pretty just how slowdive does things.:)
@chaileywatts The original is good, but this one is better, in my opinion.
@dachewth Heh. Not that I disagree with you, but I'm amused by us all collectively, as every generation tends to say this about the music of the youth who've succeeded them.
souvlaki???? kamia tyrokafterh anyone???
primal scream primal scream primal scream
good cover , they are amazing. but the best cover of this song is by primal scream IMHO
Stunning overall beauty from Slowdive, good cover. 9/10
To be honest the original shits on any of the covers, though I love Slowdive. The worst cover of this song is the abysmal Primal Scream cover with Kate dross on it!
i don't think eno was on this song. he appears on sing and here she comes now i believe. if he is on this cover it's just treatments of sounds. no vocals
i only realised this was a cover aswell
i just saw a lydia lunch version of it and thats not the origianl either but thats also a really great cover of it
this takes lee hazelwood's original to the next level.
This is probably the best cover of this song that I've heard.
isnt this a vanilla fudge song as well?
never even realized this was a cover. fucking amazing song. i can't wait to hear the original.
Mmm souvlaki...
They got the album title from a Jerky Boys skit where they call a Greek restuaurant and one of them tells the owner "his wife would suck his dick like Souvlaki"! TRUE STORY! Check out the liners on the reissue! Hahahah
haha! is indeed very delicious! :) And the band is very good too!
fuckin love this song can't stop listening to it on my ipod. so much better than primal scream's version
is that a greek band?
Good description! Do you know the Lee Hazelwood/Nancy Sinatra original? I'm sure you have heard it, but if not please do! Both versions are mind-blowing!
Love this song... Slowdive is a GREAT band I love em
