Sleater-Kinney - No Anthems Lyrics

I'm the locust telling you something's amiss
Then you hear the sound
I'm the whisper, I can do it better
When I look around
I'm the siren sail beamin' from the highest shelf
You should really look down
There is a road block that I couldn't unlock
I really get around

Seduction, pure function
It's how I learn to speak
Steal your power, in my hour
I could change most everything

I'm not the anthem, I once was an anthem
That sang the song of me
But now there are no anthems
All I can hear is the echo, and the ring

I'm the sidewinder watching how to cut you down
I don't say a word
Slow dream plannin' up my next scheme
I lay my moves down
I'm the pool boy fillin' you with cool joy
In my melody
I will lay low, freak you on your way to go
Behind the scenes

I'm not the anthem, I once was an anthem
That sang the song of me
But now there are no anthems
All I can hear is the echo, and the ring

Seduction, pure function
It's how I learn to speak
Steal your power, in my hour
I could change most everything

I'm not the anthem, I once was an anthem
That sang the song of me
But now there are no anthems
All I can hear is the echo, and the ring

But I want an anthem, I'm singin' an answer
An answer and a voice
To feel rhythm in silence, a weapon, not violence
Power, power, source

THIS is what I’d expect from a follow up to The Woods. My favorite on the album.

    So tasty, I'm left salivating.

¿No que el grunge había muerto?, es la mejor canción por lejos en varios años que he escuchado, supe de Sleater Kinney hace apenas un año y me enganché, lástima que la banda no tenga el mismo sonido en vivo y que se han vuelto a separar.

  5. L.... O....

    muy bueno xd

  6. J.... R....

All that and a bag of chips.

I'm new to Sleater Kinney. I have known about them for years now, but never listened to a full album until I listened to this one a week ago. I love this one, and I can listen to it front to back without wanting to skip any songs which is a sign of a great album. So, then I listened to two others by them: "Call the Doctor", and "The Woods", and I think this album is the better of the three, by far. Can any fan tell me what they think their best album is other than the three that I have mentioned? Thank you.

My favourite is definetely Call The Doctor, their second record that is particularly punky, comes out of the box like a rabid wolf, highly recommend

    a.... ....

Ok thanks. I will try that second one. My favourite one besides "No CIties to Love", so far, is "The Hot Rock".

    a.... ....

I'm assuming you've listened to their entire discography by this point?

    a.... ....

Late comment I know... but to me, every song from dig me out and hot rock are perfect. Definitely their best 2 albums.

    The Woods
    Dig Me Out
    One Beat

Those are my top three albums by this band.

    Standout tracks:

    The Woods:
    - Night Light
    - Rollercoaster
    - What’s Mine is Yours
    - The Wilderness

    Dig Me Out:
    - One More Hour
    - Turn Me On

    One Beat:
    - One Beat
    - Far Away
    - Step Aside

  8. B.... N....

This is one of the best tracks certainly, the vocals are just so intense, and I love the build up of sound, its sexy and emotionally at the same time.

  9. m.... ....

    Very good

  10. F.... F....

Captain Beefheart-ish but somehow straight ahead rock at the same time. My favorite thing about Sleater-Kinney.

  11. S.... G....

    Best song on this album

    S.... G....

+Fangless Name: It HURTS you. That's what I like in a good song.

  12. S.... ....

This band sounds like a mixture of L7 and Sonic Youth and it's so damn good

  13. R.... B....

...pretty fuckin' good song...pretty fuckin' good album...

  14. D.... J....

Fantastic track, gives me the chills. Can't wait to hopefully see this played live in Chicago!

  15. M.... R....

That delivery of the (incredible) lyric "I'm the pool boy filling you with cool joy".....oh, MY GOD.

    M.... R....

When they play this live, the look Carrie gives Corin when she sings that line ...

  16. A.... L....

    Que buena canción carajo n.n
    ¡Me lo compro!

  17. r.... ....

Carrie writes some wonky riffs, so good

    r.... ....

    that be true...
