Skaggs, Ricky - I Don't Care Lyrics

Now, I don't care
if I'm not the first
love you've known,
Just so I'll be the last.

No, I don't care
if I'm not the first
one you've kissed,
Darling, I'll never ask.

Yesterday's gone,
Love me from now on.
Be true to me,
Forget about the past.

No, I don't care
If I'm not the first
Love you've known,
Just so I'll be the last.

Yesterday's gone,
Love me from now on.
Be true to me,
Forget about the past.

No, I don't care
If I'm not the first
Love you've known,
Just so I'll be the last.
Darling, I'll never ask...

Geezer, I was 23 working at a factory. 5 of us would break boredom by belting this out at the top of our lungs in the twangiest twang. Then bust up laughing our heads off. So, now at 60, I'm sitting in a parking lot waiting for my wife belting this out at the top of my lungs.

  6. J.... S....

Reminds me of my dad miss you always!!

I searched hard for this song by Ricky Skaggs but just found it! I was painting our house in Dayton Ohio in 1979 while my wife was visiting her Mom in Germany. This song just kept me going for 3 days and kept me company. Lyrics are so poignant. Forgiveness about the past but now complete loyalty.

You're simplistic in your requirements for a love, aren't you Ricky? Good for you. Somebody has to be that simplistic, in order to compensate for my severe complications, of balance is to exist, I suppose? Good for you for being so simplistic, Ricky.

I ALWAYS wondered where that phrase came from, "I don't care if I'm not the first love you've known, just so I'll be the last.." So cool, so wise. How many guys would actually say THAT in real life? Thanks, Ricky!!

I have seen Ricky and his band (and The Whites) at the Opry several times. They make the show. Ricky is funny and witty and so loaded with talent that one is agast. I believe he, in the 80s, kept Country Music alive.

Yes, Webb co-wrote the song with Cindy Walker in 1955 and he took it to #1 on the U.S. Country charts the same year; it was #1 for 12 weeks. Ricky's version hit #1 on the U.S. Country charts and #2 on the Canada Country charts in 1982 and he held the #1 spot for one week.
