Sisters Of Mercy, The - Emma Lyrics
We were together since we were five
She was so pretty
Emma was a star in everyone's eyes
And when she said she'd be a movie queen
Nobody laughed
She could be anything
Emmaline
Emma
Emmaline
I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen
Emmaline
Emma
Emmaline
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen
At seventeen
We were wed
And I worked day and night to earn our daily bread
And every day
Emma would go out searching for that play
That never, ever came her way
And sometimes she come home and she'd be so depressed
I'd hear her crying in the back room and be so distressed
And I'd remember back way when she was five
To the words that used to make Emmaline come alive
It was...
Emma Emmaline
I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen
Emmaline
Emma Emmaline
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen
It was a cold and dark December night
When I opened up the bedroom door
To find her lying
Still and cold upon the bed
A love letter lying on the bedroom floor
It read,
'Darling I love you
But I just can't keep on living on this dreams no more
I've tried so very hard not to leave you alone
But I just can't keep on trying no more'
Ahh Emma
Emmaline
Ahh Emma
Emmaline
Ahh Emma
Noooooo
Ahh Emma
Noooooooooooo

A W E SO M E !
Hot Chocolite sings the original
One of the best cover versions of a song ever !!!!
Brilliant song/lyrics and visualization.
this sucks!
There was another video of them covering this song. Two women. I think this one was a part of it, but there was another shot clearly. She was in profile, bottomless and with a knee on a chair. Looking to the right. Anyone know what happened to it?
I dont think anyone has ever covered a song in such a way. Andrew's voice and feelings on this one is pure heartbreak, despair, agony and pain. He really sung his soul out on this one. This remains one of my all time personal favorires, no matter how many years pass...
This version captured the 80s gothic vibes so much..so ethereal
Malice Ione I so agree. I was born in 1970 and belonged to the Gothic scene from age 14. This song captures the whole of my teenage years. It takes me right back to when I was young.
@Eden2089 sometimes this song make me cry like a baby lol
Malice Ione I can so understand it bc it’s a lost time and it feels like the goth scene is forgotten and won’t have it’s revival ever. I mourn a forever lost teenage and memories I can’t relive again. But also bc of happiness. So many concerts and emotions inside. In Stockholm (were I was raised) they had this fantastic goth club called Ritz were I started going at age 15. Sisters of Mercy was usually always played as intro when the night ”started” at 22:00 and the sound got louder. I never had one bad evening there.

Great! Thank you!
Perfect Goth rendition to a beautiful haunting song from 1974. Just received the Sisters Of Mercy "Floodland" 2006 re-release with the four previously unreleased tracks today and one of them is this song "Emma". Great album to relive those awesome and never forgotten 80s Goth days. I wonder whatever happened to my little Goth Girl? We were the Vampires who roamed the nights until early Dawn. Please just take me back and leave me there forever. (Lost in the 80s tonight).
The 80s, damn, where did they go? Can't believe it's been so long ago. Like a dream it was here then gone. Was it all just a dream? Like a long lost love, the 80s just faded away. Wish I could find that love again. Only to relive just a few moments would be my only wish. The best decade ever and forever. I want to be lost in the 80s. (Brings a smile to my face and tears to my eyes)
❤❤❤
I like the guitar in this!
RIP Errol Brown
Now that is emotional singing.
The orginal track by hot chocolate released in 1974 isn´t bad either... dark and brooding.
me suena a JOY DIVISION
Das antigas... Lembrei do Retro.
Great version along side Hot Chocolates version
Wunderbar!!!
🌹✨
I was on river , remember my teenager , no on dreams but in reality , that river was crying like my soul.
It's sad and beauty song.
It's Transmission, slowed down. Kind of. Great song, though.

Relieving,,wastegate!,,
It's slow.. song
This sounds like a sufuck song .. lol
Well it's different
Great Cover...great Photos!!
doctor muther fucken avalanche!!
Love this version - Thanks for the Lyrics RM
Allways gives me massive goosebumps. The original looks pale next to this masterpiece.
Sorry this Terrible, too much instrumental weak voice.. Hot Chocolate Rules This Song!!!
The original is better but I like this as well. Luckily the Sister of Mercy had plenty of other solid work to fall back on so they didn't need to ride anyone's coattails.
Right ? Like, where is the emotion in this ? This just sounds like a sexy time background music *disaproval slow head shaking*
YOU ARE LAME, THE MAN. how old are you? i'm sure this is before you were born.
Well done. That's taking it to another level.
I understand this is based on a true event. The Emmaline was the mother of the singer for Hot Chocolate. So I've read.
awsome in every single way
EVERY WAY
This is Masterful.
great version
so sad the lyric but beautiful at the same time
Perfect, haunting photos
a brilliant cover indeed but i do love theprimitives i'll be your mirror truly beautiful to behold went to see the mision last night they were awesome and they done marianne awesome
To think that an track recorder ,a guitar and a simple drumset is the basis of what inspired an late eighties club-wave.
The best cover ever. Well its up there. Certainly one of the greatest bands of all time
I love this band
Hammer ....
I liked this just as much as the original,so much passion in the voice.
