Goth label is all about Siouxsie Sioux's hair, early 80s then Robert Smith copying it (Simon Gallup's version in fact closer) then every body at some point having Cure hair cuts even Sisters of Mercy in 83 on this video, then Sisters of Mercy move to a new cut, long hair with hats and sun glasses, Fields of the Nephilim copy the sisters goth look and so on. Andrew Eldritch retained the bands name, but failed copyright his hat, so Wayne Hussey who always dreamt to be Andrew , copied his hair and hat... meanwhile Andrew Eldritch has been trying for past 30 years to NOT look goth... What he looks like now, I dodn't know if it has a name, whats for sure no one will copy him...

What do you mean? Wayne Hussey had that hair and hat when he was still with the Sisters of Mercy...I'm not sure it's something he copied. Most bands decide together how they'll present themselves

At the time of the split Sounds magazine claimed Wayne stole Andrew's hat...It was noted that the new Sisters look for Floodland Andrew kind of went Cyberpunk whilst Wayne and The Mission didn't move on....

Nowadays Andrew Eldritch and Craig Adams go to the same hairstylist.

When I was young, I had a pen -friend, in Bristol. And his mother, was selling products from Avon, and Wayne's mother was a customer, and they were mormons . In fact, he played played with Dead or alive before the S.o.M., so the hair ...where did it start ? nobody knows, now .

actually, I'd rather a band just make music, and be called "goth", than a band say "we're going to be a goth band! pass the black hair dye, we have a video to shoot" and act it up. Cos generally the latter are piss-poor (no offence, but you know who you are). Goth has become a career choice, a commodity.

Andrew post the WAKE 84 is good but never the same. It would be like having Robert Plant without the Zeppelins. Deathrock, that term sounds pretty awesome to me =) In the No Time To Cry TV appearance from 1985 the host calls them "psychedelic rock". Its nice to have a variety of descriptions.

I came across the term "Goth" in the late 80s, but in my perception that was to label - or maybe insult - some sub-sub-fraction of a greater Punk/Wave/Alternative scene. When Sisters etc. were 1st generation, then the bands labelled goth were 2nd generation, so I can see why The Sisters, The Cure, etc. don't see themselves as part of it.

I reckon Andrew Eldritch was way more appealing back in the 80's & 90's where he had all that hair, seeing him nowadays, balled, just feels like The Sisters of Mercy has lost all that gothic rock appeal, though he's still a great singer, and the bands awesome.
