Siouxsie And The Banshees - This Wheel's On Fire Lyrics

If your memory serves you well
We were goin' to meet again and wait,
So I'm goin' to unpack all my things
And sit before it gets too late.
No man alive will come to you
With another tale to tell,
But you know that we shall meet again
If your memory serves you well

This wheel's on fire,
Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin
This wheel shall explode!

If your memory serves you well
I was goin' to confiscate your lace,
And wrap it up in a sailor's knot
And hide it in your case
If I knew for sure that it was yours
But it was oh so hard to tell.
But you knew that we would meet again
If your memory serves you well.

This wheel's on fire,
Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin
This wheel shall explode!

If your memory serves you well
You'll remember you're the one
That called on me to call on them
To get you your favors done
And after every plan had failed
And there was nothing more to tell,
You knew that we would meet again
If your memory served you well.

This wheel's on fire,
Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin,
This wheel shall explode!

  6. ClassicTVMan1981X

They almost didn't release this version. It was not until after they recorded it that they found out it was co-written by Bob Dylan and The Band's Rick Danko. The Band's original version appeared on their 1968 debut, Music from Big Pink.

  7. Jeffrey Quinn

I didn't always like their videos, but this is really one of the best abuses of mid-80's video fade technology.

  8. TheTestingGrounds

Only a yobbo would thumb this down. Just brilliant, pure art by every measure.

  9. RunToEternity

No need to watch the VHS tape of Siouxie's music videos, they are all here now.

  10. Alex B

I was all of 15 years old when this was released...... Now nudging the Big 5-0..... #wherehasthetimegone

  14. Mad Mac 66

Ah man I’d forgotten what a babe Siouxsie Sioux was. When I was a mere sounder of a goth many beers ago Siouxsie was mine, all mine. Fuckin hell those were the good old days

  19. Misti

I love this video it reminds me of a Hammer film

    Jon Cole

Similar to the video to Spellbound in some respects

  20. Wesley Leytem

I always thought she looked like a powerful sorceress.

    LordGandor3

She definitely channeled the dark side. Tinderbox is an awesome album that I believe was written about the coming times prophesied in Revelation. Music stars channel the supernatural

  21. Misti

I love this video it reminds of a hammer film I want a carriage like that!

  22. Freddy Marcel-Marcum

What's interesting about the Banshees is that they were never an instrument heavy band, yet everything I've ever heard from them, in terms of songs, always had a drum, bass and guitar riff, even for thirty seconds, that's unmistakable. I don't know who's playing guitar here, I can name twenty guitarists in twenty different bands and what they drink and what picks they use, but I can't say they always record something memorable.

  23. Duke Togo

Best cover of this song ever!

  24. Micah Newman

Siouxsie has such raw charisma. This is one of many covers from _Through the Looking Glass_ that are superior to the originals.

  25. rurka zsengadeer

Although this video is lame, the song is from one of the best cover albums "Through the looking glass"...

  26. Claudio Campacci

    P E R F E C T

  27. Alison Wild

    She is a Goddess.

    MaskedMan66

Nah, just a woman. But WHAT a woman!!!

  28. eduardo zuñiga

if your memory serves you well!!

  29. Forrest Cain

    Oh yassss hunny yassssss

  30. TheTestingGrounds

This is a great version. Not as good as the Byrds doing it live around 1970, but better than the Band for sure. Btw, me a huge fan of the Band. I think the version of Dylan singing this (accompanied by the Band) on the Basement tapes album is better than the Band's version on Music from Big Pink. Siouxsies version is certainly quite dramatic with some interesting dynamics. Budgie as usual comes up with sparse and effective drumming.

    rurka zsengadeer

dont talk shit..the birds version is pure shit u fking hippie

  31. red drib

yeh, not a great cover, but that's a sick video!

    Renato Fabbro

    +zer o It's a fantastic cover.

  32. Althalus2010

I do like this version in it's own right, but it's an awful cover.

  33. pjw85

this might possibly be better than the original..... but its a close one, they are both great

    Ethan Kutinsky

"Better" is hard but it's so interesting that they heard a Siouxsie and the Banshees song in the original and made it sound this good

    Stephen Whittle

Nineteen years between Julie, Brian & The Trinity's psychedelic gem and this: the Siouxsie interpretation seems fresh and shows new facets to a great song.

    Astronomy79

    I agree 100%

    bwelc00

    Uh, no.

    LordGandor3

    This version blows away Dylan's

  34. Pixiey Dust

There are not many things better than Siouxsie!!

    Cat Walk

There is nothing better than Siouxsie!!!

  35. DLarryable

My favorite video of them of all time. That and "Killing Jar"

    Gary Cabrera

    DLarryable O.K.

  36. Simon Robeyns

    great cover!!!!

  37. Alix

Why can't people seem to live a music genre without hating on everyone else for once?

    Steve Perrault

Siouxsie said if she had known it was a Dylan song (she despised him), she wouldn't have recorded it.

  38. RockPaperBeautiful

    Best cover version ever!

  39. Karen Hernandez

    yeah!! I agree with you!!

  40. shier horizan

I agree. I have always loved this but nowadays it seems to have more prescence than ever!

  41. aaron chanenko

AGREE 150% Siouxsie is such a HOTTIE and a good artist.

  42. siouxbanshee rotten

So do I in fact all Siouxsie's covers in my opinion are better than the originals and some even thought the likes of Helter Skelter and Dear Prudence were The Banshees own songs anyway that show brilliant she is at reworking originals

    shinji1991

Hard to compare, but I can't see anything interesting in original Dear Prudence. Of course I understand the importance of The Beatles themselves (although I think that The Kinks were even slightly better), but it just sounds like some hippy boys on acid or whatever grabbed the nearest instrument and wanted to somehow save their memory of some trip. And who knows, if they would still be talked about with the same rate, if it wasn't for Lennon murder?

  43. TheMaxKidVicious

i guess you know which is the original

  44. TheMaxKidVicious

    and the banshees

  45. YalkOne

    End the Factory Farms!!!

  46. Miss Em

Jesus Fucking Christ, I could not agree more. Thank fuck I grew up with women like Siouxsie and Kate Bush, Bjork and PJ Harvey. It was easy to aspire to be intelligent, not like this shit for brains era in which women are recepticles for men to masturbate into, while said women adopt the worst mores of pornography. Fuck that, and thank Christ for feminist men.

  47. James Fabiano

"Bring me..." "A knitting needle?" "A KNITTING NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDLE!" (slap) "Oh!"

  48. TheMaxKidVicious

i don't complain in that of adopting kids that haves no home, they do that good... but still their music sucks, i elieve madonna and gaga should give up doing music and leave to who knows how to do music

  49. TheMaxKidVicious

why you mention her in here?

  50. TheMaxKidVicious

  57. Murdereress

At this point she had became a vegetarian as well!

  58. Murdereress

Thank god it's fake fur she's wearing.

  59. Tim Clasen

what a great song........She is absolutely gorgeous......I d love to play my bass next to her

  60. avalzaunt1

Siouxsie has always been and will always be one of the great female vocalists to come out of the Punk era. She has a timeless sound and beauty that cannot be replicated by today's current crop of wannabes, no matter how hard they coerce their sound engineers to do so.

  61. gingerapocalypsenow

    ab fab!

  62. Oldbmwr100rs

@Mr1991ladarius That was Julie Driscoll's cover, it's here, look it up, it's actually really good.

  63. LordGandor3

@PatrickDC202 Your "rap & R&B crap " sounds a little bigoted & Siouxsie would frown upon that .

  64. Oldbmwr100rs

@brikered Gaga will be long forgotten while people will still be listening to Siouxie. Gaga's just a throw away piece of media event trash. The only way she'll be able to be on anyone's mind will if she goes the way of another limited talent like Madonna, making a big deal about herself, going off to buy children in some 3rd world country or some other splashy thing that doesn't involve actually producing music.

  65. sonickchri

@PatrickDC202 wow. VERY VERY well said, sir.

  66. Surit Dasgupta

    back then music was 'art'

  67. myfanniejigglesaboot

    fuck you

  68. sunshineonpetals

The constant transition effect felt cheesy at first (2011) but in the end really worked for me and stands the test of time. Doesn't hurt Siouxsie was a pivotal influence in my juvenile years. I am largely who I am because of artists like her, Alison M, Chrissie H., etc. Finally got to see her once in '91 at the KROQ Weiner Festival (?), I think Budgie played a few Creature songs but that may have been another gig. It's really a shame my brain's so fried but I'll never forget the heart of it.

  69. skrapyard444

    those eyes...oh those eyes

  70. pmfnr

I love her versions of Dear Prudence and The Passenger, but this still leaves me cold. I didn't listen to the original for many years, only to discover that it is a beautifully haunting song. So strange, because Siouxsie is the queen of beautifully haunting...

  71. Briker Ed

Don't you love how the 80's singers like Siouxie or Kate Bush are still WAY sexier and more sensual all covered up, than Lady Gaga strapping 2 pieces of duct tape on her tatters :D <3

  72. tall32guy

Out of all the covers of this song, I have to say this is my fave. I almost like it better than Dylan's original version! Hehe! :)

  73. HeFockingLeftTheBand

Damn I love this version so vibrant and edgy, what more could you ask for? Off course this is not gonna sound like the Bob Dylan one, it's Bob Dylan... duh! Lol...

  74. phrumpster0

    @BabylonAGoGo

Indeed. Nine Squidbillies dislike this video.

  75. jrmetmoi

I love how her makeup seems to have a touch of the 1920s in it.

  76. jrmetmoi

@EPbabe I think you should bring it all back again! Why the heck not?

  77. jrmetmoi

@Daffneyfan Hey hey now! I love THAT show, Siouxsie AND Julie Driscoll's version!

  78. Daffneyfan

@infinitefathom then what are you doing here if you don't like her? Siouxsie pioneered the whole goth/alt. rock movement and has sang and covered some of the best songs in music. Don't hate her because she decided to cover a classic, at least it's not that horrid TV show which name I will not say covering this.

  79. infinitefathom

@Daffneyfan man, have you heard the "Basement Tapes" version? c'mon. Siouxsie sucks.

  80. Daffneyfan

@RDBeatnik she wore that for show, she isn't really a Nazi or anything

  81. Daffneyfan

@infinitefathom no, I think this is the best version of it, Siouxsie did an excellent job with it

  82. infinitefathom

    bad version. ruins the song.

  83. jrmetmoi

I love her Cruella D'Evil look at 1:57 and 2:27

  84. Grandma

    siouxsie can do no wrong!

  85. GstaadRadio

This track reminds me of great times, going around with my old mates during the 1980s, we would go to a club which would play our sort of music (Siouxie the Cult etc) then we would finish off the night by going to the ruins of Great Witley court in Worcestershire (or simular) during the early hours...then unfortunately most of us 'grew up' and got married etc.....great memories...Siouxie is superb, I don't see any bands with her quality these days in my opinion!

  86. Sparkina

I know this is a cover, and just about everyone and their brother-in-law in the music world has done a version of it, but Siouxsie's is The Best and she and her Banshees just about take ownership of this tune, IMO

  87. Daffneyfan

have you ever seen a more beautiful group of people singing an awesome song such as this?

  88. IAmPlaysWithSquirrel

@seahorse19007 They both deserve to be there.

  89. TheLonesomeEchoesite

    too good

  90. PatrickDC202

Siouxsie & The Banshees were absofuckinglutely one of the most brilliant bands. Their music had such depth & artistry and craft to it that it truly stands the test of time. Love it. I feel bad for these 20-nothings who are fed a daily drivel of rap and r&b crap, sung by skanky talentless ho's who need their voices modified just to get thru a song.

  91. shmuli9

Silly me, I never realised that THIS song (re-done by someone else) was the same song as the beginning of "AbFab".

  92. MannyJazzcats

the timings a bit different not a bad version though

  93. shadul

    @seahorse19007 u bet ;)

  94. WoodRatGirl

    @subg88

LOL yes, because we both know that it was Bob Dylan ;)
The song can be found on The Basement Tapes LP.

  95. leandro calazans

I just get crazy with the drums of this song! reminds me something like a battle song!

  96. TrajanGregory

Although this is the official video - it is monaural, NOT stereo .... To share it, I will have to use one of the other YT versions .... kinda sucks ...

  97. Marco M

probably the best metamorphosis a music could get into... its virtually another music...and in my opinion one of the best things Siouxsie recorded.. The chords and sound atmosphere are a bit transcendental somehow...
    Just love this

  98. Marco M

probably the best metamorphosis a music could get into... its virtually another music...and in my opinion one of the best things Siouxsie recorded..
    Just love this

  99. capgungirl

Best version of this song I think to ever have been produced. It just flows much better.
