Siouxsie And The Banshees - Swimming Horses (Live) Lyrics

Falling in your, falling in your in your arms
Fish on a line, learns to live on dry land
Thrown back again to drown

Kinder with poison
Then pushed down the well or a face burnt to hell
Feel the cruel stones breaking her bones
Dead before born
Words fall in ruins -- but no sound
She's dying of your shame -- she's maimed by your pain
He gives birth to swimming horses

Fish on a line, walking on dry land
But back in the water to drown -- we drown
Floating in sky
He gives birth to swimming horses

Take a ride on the tide with the assassin at your side
the weightlessness under water -- forgets in slow motion
And watches pointless tortures
He gives birth to swimming horses
Floating in sky like fishes can fly through your arms

According to what the songwriters have shared, this song is about devolution. It's about a culture that punishes its youth by death if they are suspected of extra-marital sex. Tragically, seahorses in the nearby ocean are kinder parents than these people. This sympathetic song is so beautiful and still makes me cry!!

Alice Love Thanks for info this song was in my dreams last night and like you it still makes me cry. It's the tone of the song and Siouxsie's emotive voice.

I'm convinced Robert wrote the main riff in this song - it's so close to Six Different Ways in the structure and voicing on the piano.

    R.... G....

Ryan G. During an interview Robert Smith was accused of stealing that riff, and he said he wrote Swimming Horses! Said he stole it from himself for Six Different Ways. It was his experiment doing something in waltz time.

    R.... G....

I heard that it was very much an early version of "Six..." but Budgie couldn't quite get the beat that Robert wanted so "Swimming Horses" became a sort of compromise.

    R.... G....

This is true. Robert Smith wrote Six Different Ways in 6/8 time, and the piano riff he wrote in Swimming Horses has a similar pattern, because Smith said he found that riff very easy to play (his mother was a piano teacher). I have a recording on an interview on cassette somewhere where he explains all this...

    R.... G....

    Oh yeah it really is!!

    R.... G....

Ummm...he was in the band at the time.

Please notice that the keyboard player is Mr. Robert Smith himself.

    Yeah, we know.

She should be knighted, as well as Morrissey, Depeche Mode, The Cure, and the rest of the "cool seminal" 80's bands. UK would have gone bankrupt if not for their greatest export during this time.

    t.... ....

I think Morrissey Robert Smith and Siouxsie would rather not be knighted by the Boil Family.

    t.... ....

    They would never accept one

    t.... ....

She was against the hierarchy so that wasn't going to happen!

    t.... ....

Robert said they can stick it up there arses
