this is my first venture into Souxie and the Banshees. I've heard them here and there over the years but it never really did anything for me. I saw this album randomly in my youtube suggestion, so i gave it a try. the thing that attracted me is the cover. it brought back memories of real goth from the late 80s and early 90s. Reminds me of how The Crow made me feel. Something so attractive to me about that era of goth music, it feels more sincere than any of that style that came after. this album is haunting. it took me about 4 sit throughs with it before it really occured to me how brilliant the music alone is. the guitars are always working and creating a spider web of imagery, the drums are always pounding forward, the bass is like a melodic shadow creeping constantly throughout. souxie's range is unreal. the vibrato of her voice and the reverb. it all blends together to remind me of a dream, where hope is just ever so out of reach. the darkness, flowing comfortably in my head creating imagery of abandoned places, dusty rooms, and emptiness, all while somehow making me feel joy at the same time. what beautiful art this album is.

Johnny Zeisner John Carruthers also played on Through the Looking Glass. It's a shame he didn't play on more albums though. He's my favorite Banshees guitarist.
