From our view, as the addict, how we'll steal from our most beloved kin, TO those we victimize and view US as the enemy, not as individuals with a sick disease. And what I want you, dear reader, to take from this---life for an addict is not a Dr.Phil ep! Oh no, family will usually cast you aside, banish you from "family" funerals and basically pretend you NO LONGER exist. THAT'S what an addicts family does: it ain't no Dr. Drew Love and Respect Fest. A fabulous track from a fantastic album..she's a unique artist..

One of the most beautiful and poetic songs about addiction. As a gambling addict I can relate to the pain echoed through these words and empathise with sinead's anguish to recover. Psychic tears fall from my cheeks and the pain is lessened as the leucine enkephalin is released killing my pain. "I don't want to waste the life that God gave me" and I know it's never too late.

+Phil McQuire I had to look up Leucine Enkephalin after you mentioned how it lessened your pain..but only saw the chemical info on it..I didn't see it as being something you can actually take to help you deal with pain. But I am fascinated what your background is to have brought up something so obscure. And never give up on curing your addiction..because we all have them..you're just brave enough to confront and deal with yours my friend.

Your kinds words are truly appreciated. We can't look to external sources to ease our suffering for that's just an illusion. "Leucine enkephalin (a natural pain killer), which is suggested to be the mechanism behind the experience of crying from emotion making an individual feel better." (Wikipedia). When you cry from the core of your being due to sadness, pain and regret our respite comes naturally. It is only then that you are acknowledging the true extent of your suffering and realise that only you can cure yourself. Recovery from an addiction is an almost impossible mission, an upwards struggle. But, as the saying goes, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." For anyone struggling with addiction keep fighting the fight and as Nightbird also states, never give up on curing your addiction.
