Sinatra, Frank - When Your Lover Has Gone Lyrics

From ages to ages the poets and sages,
Of love glorious love always sing,
But ask any lover and you'll soon discover,
The heartaches that romance can bring,

When you're alone, who cares for starlit skies
When you're alone, the magic moonlight dies
At break of dawn, there is no sunrise
When your lover has gone

What lonely hours, the evening shadows bring
What lonely hours, with memories lingering
Like faded flowers, life can't mean anything
When your lover has gone

Wanna hear a real singer ? Put on Dean Martin!

When Sinatra recorded this, his marriage to Ava Gardner was already on the rocks. In later years, he referred to this album as "His Ava album". He poured his heart and soul into these tracks, and it shows- this was the first time he had recorded material with such gravitas, sung with such deep sincerity, and the oft-repeated story goes that at the end of the master take for this song he broke down and cried, it was all too much for him. And listening to this, I can well believe it.

absolutely breathtaking. I may only be 21 but this album is on of my favorites by him. so deep and so fulfilling for the soul. wish this music was still alive today. instead of that bullshit they play on the radio

Honestly I know this was over a year ago but me too. I'm 14 and been listening to Frank Sinatra for over a year. People call me weird for listening to "old people music" but I feel sad for them because they can't see through their judgement and don't see his talent.

It's quite a delightful experience to witness my fellow colleagues in younghood developing quite the taste in Sinatra's quintessential music. I was born roughly 5 years ago (quite a bit younger than you, it's true) and I already have deep wet dreams listening to this masterpiece.

brooke mcclary I am 19 and this song is a gem

@Guilherme Festas As a 5 year old, can you tell me what it will be like, as a dedicated Frank Sinatra fan, when I get to kindergarten in a few years?
    P. S. - I don't understand kids my age...just throwing tantrums, giving us a bad name...
When people hear my age they always say "terrible twos," but I just want to chill out listening to Frank Sinatra and smoking bong hits for Jesus.

@Nigel Liotta Oh, my contemporary friend, I must warn you, it will be hard to find those with similar taste. most will solely listen to pop songs from the like of "baby shark" (which has its intrinsic quality) and won't enjoy the smoke of your cigar. But either way they don't deserve your respect as they will consistely argue fallaciously, if not just throwing fits of rage and breaking your Lego churches.

    I just broke up

  22. R.... F....

A masterpiece, from a Master-at the absolute pinnacle of his bewitching craft. From one of the greatest vocal albums of all time-into timelessness.

  23. S.... K....

These "torch songs" were what Sinatra sounded best at. Sad, brooding, break-up songs and such. His voice, persona, and personality fit hand-in-glove with this style. Add Nelson Riddle-esque arrangements, and you are floating on a cloud of perfection, with a bit of a clouded buzz from your shot and a beer, but not too much....

    S.... K....

yes, Nelson was amazing! people don't know who he is at my age... 21 lol very sad
