Sinatra, Frank - When I'm Not Near The Girl I Love Lyrics

Oh my heart is beating wildly and it's all because you're here.
When I'm not near the girl I love, I love the girl I'm near.
Every femme that flutters by me is a flame that must be fanned,
When I can't fondle the hand I'm fond of, I fondle the hand at hand
My heart's in a pickle, it's constantly fickle and not too partic'lar I fear,
When I'm not near the girl I love, I love the girl I'm near.
I'm confessing a confession and I hope I'm not verbose when I am not close
To the kiss I cling to, I cling to the kiss that's close.
As I'm more and more a mortal, I am more and more a case
When I'm not facing the face I fancy, I fancy the face I face.
For Sharon I'm caring but Susan I'm choosing, I'm faithful to those whos'n is here.
When I'm not near the girl I love, I love the girl I'm near.

I miss those years with you Tom

  2. M.... ....

Who is able to write lyrics like this? Simply amazing! And so well performed!

  3. J.... M....

Thank you ‘Ankit Doshi’ for posting the lyrics to this joyous song from “Finnian’s Rainbow”. Frank sings it so well. 👍

  4. A.... D....

    (Spoken intro)
Is this what it's like to be mortal? Is every girl the only girl? I'm beginnin' to like it!

    (Chorus)
Oh, my heart is beating wildly
And it's all because you're here
When I'm not near the girl I love
I love the girl I'm near

Every femme that flutters by me
Is a flame that must be fanned
When I can't fondle the hand I'm fond of
I fondle the hand at hand

    My heart's in a pickle
    It's constantly fickle
    And not too particul'
    I fear
When I'm not near the girl I love
I love the girl I'm near

    (Verse)
What if they're tall and tender?
What if they're small and slender?
Long as they've got that gender
    I surrender!

    Always I can't refuse 'em
    Always my feet pursue them
Long as they've got a bosom
    I woos 'em

    (Dance break)

    (Chorus 2)
    I'm confessing a confession
And I hope I'm not verbose
When I'm not close to the kiss I cling to
I cling to the kiss that's close

As I'm more and more a mortal
I am more and more a case
When I'm not facing the face that I fancy
I fancy the face I face

    For Sharon, I'm carin'
    But Susan I'm choosin'
I'm faithful to those who are here
When I'm not near the girl I love
I love the girl I'm near

    A Classic Burton Lane waltz....

  6. o.... ....

With that ending this song belongs on the "Concert Sinatra" album.

  7. D.... ....

Anti-friendzone song. This song teach me the attitude what man should really do.

  8. J.... M....

No one replaced you Frank, we miss you, thanks for the memories.

  9. E.... N....

Que bien suena esta cancion interpretada por el gran Sinatra

  10. T.... D....

My father wore out this album.

    T.... D....

    thats awesome

  11. T.... L....

This tune is a perfect description of human nature!  We are hard wired to procreate.  We are not designed to be faithful!   That is a choice.

    T.... L....

+Thomas La Pare we're hard wired for a lot of things. Violence for one. But we've come to a time where we as humans have advanced and become capable to have self-control, to fit in society. Self control which is also a choice. I agree with your point though, but my view is that the virtue of faithfulness should not be looked over with the idea of "human nature".

  12. J.... J....

I love it,love it. One of my all.time favourite songs by Sinatra.

  13. R.... R....

Hey, wait a minute. Wasn´t this song what Sesame Street used to count from 1 to 3?

    R.... R....

+RL R This was originally from a movie called "Finian's Rainbow"

    R.... R....

It was a show before it was a movie. Sinatra was involved in an abortive animated version in the 50s.

  14. D.... D....

    Well Done Frank!

  15. k.... ....

Always loved this song, because of Sinatra, he turnes every song into a masterpiece, nobody came close to The Voice.

    k.... ....

There were singers such as Roy Orbison who could make seemingly superhuman sounds but none of them could put their personality into a song as could Frank.

  16. m.... ....

Do you want me to transcribe it?

  17. V.... S....

    thanks, sharing!

  18. 1.... ....

I love how Frank captures the playful and whimsical quality of the lyrics here.
