Sinatra, Frank - What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life? Lyrics

I want to see your face in every kind of light
In fields of dawn and forests of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make

What are you doing the rest of your life?
North and South and East and West of your life
I have only one request of your life
That you spend it all with me

All the seasons and the times of your days
All the nickels and the dimes of your days
Let the reasons and the rhymes of your days
All begin and end with me

I want to see your face in every kind of light
In the fields of dawn and the forests of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make

Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes
In the world of love that you keep in your eyes
I'll awaken what's asleep in your eyes
It may take a kiss or two

Through all of my life
Summer, Winter, Spring, and Fall of my life
All I ever will recall of my life
Is all of my life with you

That's not age you hear, that's experience. This one is up there with "Didn't We", "Drinkin' Again", "I'll Only Miss Her When I Think of Her", and "The Gal That Got Away/It Never Entered My Mind".

    Best version of song

    L.... M....

I agree that this is the best MALE version. Among FEMALE versions, I would say either Rosemary Clooney or Laura Fygi.

  11. R.... L....

    The master in his workshop.

  12. E.... L....

His voice always gives me the chill, no matter in his golden age or late age. Some people are meant to be great and he is absolutely one of them.

  13. J.... C....

    OPINION:

BOTH ARE GOOD: FRANK SINATRA AND JACK JONES.

  14. M.... K....

And that would be Nelson Riddle's arrangement.

  15. j.... g....

    simply the best!

  33. A.... A....

Finding a perfect SUNG version of this beautiful song is impossible. If it were just Frank and a piano, minus the over the top, Vegas flourishes I might have loved this. This beaurltuful song is meant to be FELT.

  34. J.... S....

LOVE SINATRA. HE SANG MY MOM'S SONG LEARNIN THE BLUES DOLORES VICKI SILVERS

When his voice had all the tones of living these songs. My heart is grateful for his music, my life better for having heard it.

  44. A.... M....

I hope that Frank Sinatra is singing a lot of songs in heaven.

  45. R.... L....

The voice is rougher at this stage, but the greatness is still there. The low D at the end, "IS all of my life with you" cracks me up. Very poignant.

  46. C.... P....

Thanks frank a life time of pleasure!!CP

  47. C.... L....

... the Voice ... this man was (still is) the Best! ...

  48. D.... G....

I didn't think anything could beat Streisand's version. Yet this which was out of his comfort zone a little and quite gutsy given where his voice was at. BUT it could never be bettered. God he conquered it. It is THE interpretation for this song and like most things he did will never be bettered. His voice is tuned to us so emotionally. I can't quite understand but I love it.

  49. K.... C....

Even 2Pac was a Big Sinatra Fan!! You know he is great when other greats recognize him!! Sinatra is the Truth!!!!!!!

  50. P.... B....

    magic frank.

  51. T.... B....

I will forever and always Love 💜Frank Sinatra. I didn't have the pleasure of seeing him sing Live and in Person😕Perhaps if I had, I would have surely fainted. Bestill My Heart...

  52. l.... t....

No man could ever express the feelings of a man deeply in love more fully and honestly than Frank Sinatra. Nobody.

  53. E.... J....

I dedicate this song to my Swiss Angel Marina of Zurich, Switzerland  from the great Frank Sinatra

  54. S.... B....

The love of my life, sang this to me. He's gone now, but, I have my memories of a once in a lifetime love.

    S.... B....

I know what you mean, so much, this made me cry, reading what you said,

  55. T.... D....

The chairman of the board! !

  56. c.... 2....

    SINATRA + M . LEGRAND / MAGNIFIQUE !!!!!!!!!

  57. A.... C....

There never will be anyone like him, always loved his music, even the swinging sixties I preferred Sinatra. Thank you for this, Anna.

  58. R.... C....

He steps up to the mice and stops just short of blowing a fuse. that's his take with his basso voice, his lyric reading, a love song that echoes on. Wow, how did he know ?

  59. C.... L....

To you my beloved mom and dad,.....I will never be the same again, since you went away......

  60. E.... J....

Frank Sinatra is the chairman of the board

  61. E.... J....

Please send this to Marina in swisspeek !!! Thank You

  62. R.... L....

The WISDOM and POWER and HUMANITY with which this man SANG!!!!--------what a MIRACLE!...................aaah.........but the sorrow every time I hear it........a marriage of 10 years, and "I want to see your life....."-----------but no, oh no, Dear Friends--------------the person cannot stand you anymore (and quite truly) and there is no more of Mr. Sinatra's song.................Why am I writing these things?!...It's 16 years already!!!!...........

  63. H.... P....

Sinatra empieza con la segunda parte de la canción para ser efectista, está bien por él, pero se pierde el enfoque original de menos a más

  64. R.... B....

He is still the man, I love his voice

  65. W.... T....

Now listen to Abbey Lincoln's version!

  66. R.... C....

Voice coming close to high c just short of moving up one octave. Ttry it when you sing. That and the ability to hold breath like a pearl diver. That's all this takes.

  67. S.... ....

One of his greatest songs of the later period.

  68. R.... C....

at this point he was developing new vocal abilities. the expression and the arrangements reached new levels and created sinatra in his and anyones ultimate depth. it was sinatra two !

    R.... C....

    Just brilliant commentary

  69. K.... M....

What a song! It brings unforgettable memories! Thank you blue eyes!

  70. M.... G....

I used this for our marriage vows.A mature Frank but still the best.He had a way of making it all his.

  71. S.... W....

    This is his best version!

  72. G.... D....

Love this song by Frank Sinatra ! Love All of his music !!

  73. J.... J....

Dayum..... could anyone inhabit a song more than Frank? I wonder......

    J.... J....

The answer to that is an unequivocal, resounding NO! I heard him sing this live and it was amazing. I sang this song and unashamedly copied his phrasing in it. No problem since I never recorded it. Sinatra was just the best ever!

    J.... J....

    Jack Jones...

    J.... J....

    @David TOLSON Streisand

  74. s.... ....

It's a lovely song.   But it makes me think of my beloved mother, who has gone to be with God.

  75. r.... j....

quelle formidable prononciation ...on comprend la chanson du début  à la fin ..exceptionnel...and I am french speaking...

  76. f.... C....

Mr. Sinatra recorded this song in 1974, he was past his prime but did one hellava job !

    f.... C....

maybe he was further into his prime? just wondering....

    f.... C....

    I agree with Just Jeanne.

    f.... C....

    Amen Brother.... Amen.

    f.... C....

    yep, your right !

  77. t.... m....

In Sinatra's lovely earlier studio version of this beautiful Legrand/Bergman song, he is obviously in more pristine voice. Yet, the slight raggedness of that, still gorgeous voice, adds greater poignancy and moves moves me deeply . RIP Frances . Miss you greatly

    t.... m....

tenor man i think this is good , he used 1974 technologies which means better quality record

  78. Y.... M....

    any words. just admiration!!!

  79. R.... C....

    unusual orchestration.

  80. L.... C....

    Nobody sang this thing better.

    L.... C....

    +frank “mustang man” Cross
I couldn't agree with you more Mustang Man.

    L.... C....

+Loren Cosby My favorite is Barbra Streisand's version which is beautiful and worth checking out, but it's really a matter of personal preference.

    L.... C....

+YT Smith Yes, it is. Both are larger-than-life talents. I always detect a lot of yearning/longing/losing in Sinatra's voice.

    L.... C....

    Yes they did. Jack Jones...

    L.... C....

I particularly prefer Scott Walker to Sinatra

  81. J.... B....

Loverlie ! But DONT forget the man who wrote this song a certain Micheal Legrand I believe. Written just inside of Frankie'stime range.  Beautifully rendered.   WOW.!!

    J.... B....

+Jenette Brewster michael died not but a few years ago. he was still working on his music with his small band. se if you can find the performance done around 2005 in france. he never got worse. he was always true human genius. one of the best composers of the 20th century which led to the acceptance of tom jobim who was equally effected by french composers. jenette, you have a fine ear.

    J.... B....

+Richard Condon As I understand it, Mr. Legrand remains with us.

    J.... B....

+Mauricio Durón as i have since found out and happy for it. thanks mauricio.

    J.... B....

Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman wrote the lyrics. Legrand wrote the music.

    J.... B....

RIP Legrand!! Today he pasted away........ :'-(

  82. R.... C....

another example of sinatra finding the best music and putting his take on it. normally he's playing to the horn section but on this one it's the strings. it's unbelievable that this took place. so many singers were doing this song. the composer had to know he had written a great piece of music when frank did it. as usual it is done with respect and pays attention to what the song was meant to portray in feeling and mood. and then what lyrics. this is a great love song.

  83. V.... F....

what a song what a singer wow!

  84. J.... G....

my mom and dad named me after Frank....he's silll the man !

    J.... G....

    +Jordan Grenyion-Smith my bad !

  85. O.... ....

    Damn, dude. Goosebumps.

  86. b.... ....

When music places you into the intended mood it has succeeded as intended! :)

  87. s.... ....

He may be older here but his interpretation plus Don Costa's wonderful arrangement is still outstanding. As he aged it was good day bad day but 80% Sinatra is still better than all the rest. Great love song beautifully done....

  88. c.... ....

    the master voice!

  89. j.... p....

    so romantic

    j.... p....

    i love that song

  90. R.... G....

Frank had his own style absolutely perfect, pretty good for a saloon singer, tops in my record albums.

  91. F.... M....

All the nickels and the dimes of your days. So beautiful.

  92. G.... ....

What can i say?  My favorite singer singing one of my top 3 composer's music!

    G.... ....

This is Gershwin? Wow. Frank brings this to life.

    G.... ....

Composer is Michel Legrand actually. :-)

  93. k.... m....

This may be one of the nicest, most beautiful love songs ever recorded. I remember my father playing it on the stereo...anyone remember those? ;)

  98. K.... D....

Defining "turgid" and "overwrought " at 3:06.  Don Costa was no Nelson Riddle.

    K.... D....

    @Katherine Drabek  I agree !

    K.... D....

    Was still a great arrangement........
