Sinatra, Frank - This Nearly Was Mine Lyrics

One dream in my heart, one love to be living for,
One love to be living for, this nearly was mine.
One girl for my dream, one partner in paradise,
This promise of paradise, this nearly was mine.
Close to my heart she came, only to fly away,
Only to fly as day flies from moonlight.
Now, now I'm alone, still dreaming of paradise,
Still saying that paradise once nearly was mine.

  2. C.... B....

    The best ever

  3. J.... B....

I know the feeling and am too old to find the man that I loved

  4. J.... B....

This song sure hits me in the heart

  5. i.... i....

The master craftsman sings. Sinatra felt every word. The man sang to your heart.. Nothing else to say. Superb! Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein 2nd, the greatest musical theatre composers, ever !

  6. J.... B....

Perfection at it's best dear darling Frank Sinatra

  7. F.... A....

    Spine tingling at 1.00

  8. s.... p....

  9. M.... K....

    Stellar!

  10. a.... ....

It sounds like he was singing about Ava Gardner.

  11. s.... p....

    frank sinatra at his best.

  12. s.... ....

This LP has to be in my top 5 favorite from Sinatra. Frank and Nelson in top form...1963.

  13. M.... O....

I bought this album when it was first released. Still have the LP (and audio cassette). Now I have it on CD. Love the whole album. Thanks for posting this!

  14. E.... M....

How wonderful the voice and the song composition...sooo romantic..a killer.

  15. D.... S....

Sinatra at his peak, Nelson Riddle at his peak = UNSTOPPABLE!

  16. L.... M....

    It really is magic.

  17. K.... D....

This is the best version of a non-opera Singer. Eddie Fisher’s version is terrible.

  18. W.... D....

    Incomparable Sinatra.

  19. l.... c....

Was he still thinking about Eva  when singing this song?

  20. s.... p....

you could search and search but this is one of the most beautiful songs.

  21. B.... J....

    I am such an ass

  22. c.... ....

Magnificent!!!!! Rodgers and Hammerstein would have been very proud by how Sinatra interpreted this beautiful song.

  23. t.... d....

I regret that Sinatra AND Riddle didn't go for a jazzy, brass-filled faster approach. Apparently (but I may be wrong) the slow, string-based version seems to be the only rule for interpreters. But when I strum it on the piano syncopated and fast, the tune (like all Rodgers great songs) sounds at least as good as when played slow. The duo didn't show the courage they displayed in other occasions. Pity.

  24. d.... i....

    a little bit of paradise...

  25. M.... L....

Beautiful song -- thank you for posting it!

  26. P.... G....

    So Beautiful

  27. J.... P....

Was this recorded on 35mm film stock?

    J.... P....

    Apparently.

  28. S.... B....

    Magnificent!

  29. T.... ....

Superb...... there will never be another Sinatra !

    T.... ....

Wow, that is for sure, no one before him ,now, or after him can compare or ever will compare, I don't think. Simply the best.

  30. E.... D....

    😍dreamy.

  31. F.... F....

There are so many great Sinatra songs. I think this is the best of all. If you've ever had someone who nearly was yours, you'll understand.

    F.... F....

the greatest song the greatest singer!

    F.... F....

Yes I feel the same.....I remember when I was in Korea I met a 2nd louie named Rick. He got a dear John letter and he was so in love with this girl, that letter nearly killed him. Well Rick and I stayed friends until he died in 2007 but once, a long time ago, while we mulled over a bottle of single malt scotch at our yearly company gathering, he stopped our toast of "Auld Lang Syne", and started singing this. Most of  the company stopped and came outside to hear him, and we all stood there silently.....silently listening to this man, who despite surviving a horrible war in Korea, was brought to tears and singing about the thing that hurt him the most....Falling utterly and helplessly in love with someone who never fell in love with him. ::sigh:: Rest in Peace Lt. Saunders.

  32. R.... C....

Frank your magic live on, that's just beautiful

  33. j.... ....

Perfect song....perfect voice.... perfect orchestration. Nothing else to say.

    j.... ....

johnrjohn25 Other than it’s Frank Sinatra, that’s what makes it perfect. I never tire of hearing him sing.

    j.... ....

Once nearly was mine!! Beautiful words ...

  34. J.... R....

there may not be a more perfect blend of voice and orchestration in this R&H outstanding composition ....best appreciated on vinyl

  35. c.... ....

What else can be said about Frank Sinatra that hasn't been said so many times by so many.He was simply the best. How I miss him !!!!!!!!

    c.... ....

    SO true!

  36. Z.... R....

Always enjoyed this wonderful interpretation of this American Musical Theater Classic.  Awesome collaboration between Sinatra and Riddle. I always did wonder why they didn't include the bridge section in this production, though.

  37. J.... B....

    J.... B....

@Brandon Tanberg Thanks Brandon , greetings.

    J.... B....

@Svetlana Petrova A wonderful day to you too, Svetlana, greetings.

    J.... B....

@***** Gracias a ti, querida Maria, besos.

    J.... B....

  38. L.... K....

not a classic song, not a show stopper on broadway, sung by many but Sinatra just has a way to make it his own,,ex;king and i i have dreamed live or on album timeless

    L.... K....

Not a classic song? I think musicians, singers and music historians (and Lindsey Buckingham) would disagree. Klutz, you don't know shit about music.

  39. J.... B....

Champion singer, Champion song, what more can I say? Indeed, is there anymore to be said?

  40. T.... G....

This is an example of a good collaboration between Rodgers, Hammerstein, Frank Sinatra, Nelson Riddle and the orchestra. Beautifuuuuuuuuuuuuuul.

  41. S.... T....

Never thought anyone could move me with this song more than Ezio Pinza.  Frank blows me away with this one!  GORGEOUS!

    S.... T....

Check out Davis Gaines "against the tide" album. He sings this song with a passion that even 10 years later I am willing to listen to and enjoy

  42. k.... f....

    Unsurpassed.

  43. M.... K....

Great song, great lyrics, great orchestration and of course Sinatra.....if this isn't musical perfection, then I don't know what is!

  44. f.... p....

Beautiful song, beautiful rendition, miss this good music a lot.

  45. M.... G....

Definitely my favorite album of all time

  46. m.... w....

    no one else

  47. C.... ....

I just heard Josh Young's version. Educated voice, very nice, but poor expression. There was no sense of sadness, of loss in his voice, nor did his phrasing (exaggerated) or arrangement (mediocre) show off the pretty melody. The version felt very empty to me.

But then, that's the thing about Sinatra at his most serious: He makes everyone else sound childish and silly.

    C.... ....

Cristina Otero then why are you hear?

    C.... ....

    Peter Gerstenzang ???¿¿¿?????

  48. T.... G....

Just came across Josh Young singing this song and I can't find anyone who sings it better than Josh.

  49. W.... H....

Frank your amazing. This song is almost always sung by an operatically trained voice.
Then ol Blue-eyes takes it and makes it his own. What a craftsman that guy was.

  50. d.... ....

Exquisitely beautiful. Just the right amount of power and emotion from Frank to convey the story of the song.
Was this the session recorded on a motion picture sound stage? I also thought that the recording medium was 35 mm film which would have been considered state of the art in 1963.

  51. c.... ....

Too bad they left out the middle section of the song.

  52. P.... S....

Very few come close to the perfection of Sinatra '55-'65

  53. d.... ....

Stunner, my words will not meet the way his voice might want to greet a couple fine on

romances crested wave searching the shortest route to shore where sand is grand and love is

such that it don't mind if we only touch each other everywhere the mind can meet the still

night air I know love exists but it hides itself away and wanting it so much I wonder if I may

Or maybe I have already received all it is that I now really need.

  54. e.... ....

This song came from the 1963 album arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle. Very different from Nelson's swing arrangements for Frank. Only eight tracks in the album but each is a gem; supposedly Nelson's favorite album recorded by Frank on his Reprise label.

  55. J.... C....

Discovered this song watching an old Dick VanDyke show - the "Twizzle" episode - where Jerry Lanning does a killer version of this. Frank, of course, always had his own inimitable style!

  56. t.... ....

OMG, this is great!!!! One of my very favorite albums....Listen to "I Have Dreamed".

  57. N.... ....

Frank does do this song justice, it is a song about lament for one's loss of love. It is supposed to portray Emile's sadness, and you do not do that by belting.

  58. D.... L....

Not as intense as the more melodramatic Broadway renditions, which is why some may find it underwhelming. But Sinatra was always cool and he strolls nicely through this. His voice is in good form. It's not an easy song, and it's damned sad too.

  59. c.... ....

I disagree. I think Sinatra does it justice - played at my father's funeral - so means a lot.

  60. T.... G....

Just a short version Sinatra didn't have his heart in this song. Don't get me wrong I'm a big lover of his music and admire his versatility, but this does not do him justice.

  61. j.... o....

    beautiful
