Sinatra, Frank - The Night We Called It A Day Lyrics

There was a moon out in space
But a cloud drifted over its face
You kissed me and went on your way
The night we called it a day
I heard the song of the spheres
Like a minor lament in my ears
I hadn't the heart left to pray
The night we called it a day
Soft through the dark

The hoot of an owl in the sky
Sad though his song
No bluer was he than I
The moon went down stars were gone
But the sun didn't rise with the dawn
There wasn't a thing left to say
The night we called it a day
There wasn't a thing left to say
The night we called it a day

Great Sinatra, wonderful song... But I prefer the Diana Krall's interpretation :-)

  2. D.... ....

Who’s still listening to this song 62-72 years later?

    C'est magnifique.....

Like the Frank Sinatra version, beautiful music, where did this all go?

    L.... H....

Why to Justin Bieber, Ted Nugent and Barry Manilow

    L.... H....

Linda Hayes Rock and Roll killed it

  9. u.... ....

bob dylan and sinatra.....two different views of a secret

  10. Y.... M....

Hadn´t heard of this song before Dylan performed it on Letterman and right now it feels so classic and so Dylan-like and appropriate. #ThanksDave and thanks Dylan

  11. R.... B....

    San pacu and blue...

  12. J.... W....

Love Matt Dennis songs and Sinatra knew how to sing them perfectly.  Everything Happens To Me, Violets For Your Furs, Angel Eyes,

  13. J.... T....

Riddles' arr. are of course classic but I have always loved Axels' lush treatments even in an earlier mono fidelity

  14. J.... W....

Bob Dylan did this song justice. But man, Frank. Such respect. Brings the soul and life out

    J.... W....

@Jordan Waibel Bob Dylan mooned you with this song and you didn't even notice.

    J.... W....

+DrBob how so? Why do you think Bob is doing that? I'm not goading you. I really want to hear your reasoning. Thanks

    J.... W....

Bob Dylan's name shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Sinatra, particularly in relation to this song - Sinatra's in a different league!

    J.... W....

Jordan Waibel I like Dylan’s take on it. He actually gets away with it! Lol

  15. J.... ....

    Superbe

  16. H.... P....

grande frank, rimarrai sempre il  simbolo di noi tutti italiani

  17. T.... ....

Dear John: This video is the longer viewable on the iPhone. Perhaps you can fix it. Thank you. Jeff

    T.... ....

I think that you will need to change your iPhone settings, Jeff.

  18. c.... ....

I'm with you, Musicguy. He is the greatest. Thanks for your comment.

  19. T.... ....

Hey Catman! I love Frank Sinatra. I am a 50 year fan! I just subscribed to your channel! Many of the Sinatra songs are great classics! This ballad is lovely. I already have the song on my IiPhone songs. But your video and the photos are great. May God bless Frank Sinatra!

  20. c.... ....

Having the earlier versions are useful to see how he evolved as a singer. I do appreciate Axel Stordahl's arrangement.

  21. J.... J....

    Of course Sinatras later recording

    Is vastly better.

That version is one of my Sinatra favs.

  22. m.... ....

Beautiful song. I love anything by Matt Dennis. And I think Sinatra did a great job with this one each time he sang it.

  23. c.... ....

I agree with everything you said, Wendy. The mature Sinatra voice was better suited for this somber song.

  24. W.... F....

Love the Gordon Jenkins arrangement it's darker and somehow more bitter-sweet than this version. It's also slower and Frank Sinatra's voice seems deeper and richer. More expressive.

  25. J.... M....

Beautiful! I was just on Frank Sinatra street in Palm Springs yesterday. It was a moment.

  26. S.... K....

Lots of great photos here to go along with this terrific song.
