Sinatra, Frank - The Hurt Doesn't Go Away Lyrics

The hurt doesn't go away, the tears never cease to fall,
You cover them over with people and places,
Hoping you'll want to break away.
Oh my darling, the pain doesn't go away,
When love doesn't want to stay.
And inside your laughter, the world's laughing too,
Saying you'll never make one more day.
All the nonsense of it and oh, the pain doesn't go away.
The tears never cease to fall, the hurt doesn't go away.
The pain doesn't go away.

Thanks for posting an awesome Sinatra ballad. Kudos to Joe Raposo, too. Great lyrics, and perfect for Sinatra.

This is the kind of song that can reach so many -- we've all been through it, life is living, loving, losing, and life goes on.  But when you want to remember, Frank is there!  He once said:  "when you're sad, there's a song that does your crying for you and when the tension of daily life kind of ties knots in your spirit why, a song can be a tranquilizer -- your quiet pill."  I think that says it all and that's why we come back to these sites with Sinatra singing these sad ballads like no one could ever sing before, during his time or even now.  Thanks for posting.

Frank Sinatra knows how to sing these sad ballads better than anyone, he recorded this in 1973, and probably was over Ava by then, but I think he brought forth those sad feelings of parting when he sang these morose ballads.  He KNOWS how to let the pain come forth in his voice so that you feel it there too!  Beautiful, though sad.

Yeah, it doesn't go away... but listening to you makes it less intense, Frankie... Thanks the Lord for your voice and for keeping us company for a bit. Thank you, thecandycoloredclown.

I think we've all been there, Gary -- I know I have and like the song says, "the pain never goes away" -- it lessens in time, you keep busy so your mind and heart doesn't go there, but when you think of it, tears can fill your eyes -- again.  But life goes on and we all must go on also.

Frank, you made the pain a little more bearable.

Joe Raposo clearly composed a song that suits Frank here. Think it's the first time I've heard it right thru. Thanx.

My God no one could sing a sad song like him...He couldn't have gone in the studio with any hopes that this song could ever be played on the radio. But he just had to record this stuff and thank God he did..His best singles and albums are just works of art...Not pop music at all..It just in it's own category..He had to make you feel something..Thanks for posting...I was in the mood to hear it and I found it.

You're right, Stephen, these songs are in a category of their own and Frank Sinatra knew just how to sing them.  He puts the emotion and feeling into these rather morose songs, just the way we feel them when we're sad.  No one else in the world could do that as well as Sinatra, and though he's gone, his music will go on, probably into the next century, because we NEED it!  He was such a perfectionist and these songs prove it.  He KNEW the pain and the vagaries of life that produce these emotions, and he shared it with us!
