Sinatra, Frank - Polka Dots And Moonbeams Lyrics

[instrumental intro-1:43]

A country dance was being held in a garden
I felt a bump and heard an "Oh, beg your pardon"
Suddenly I saw polka dots and moonbeams
All around a pug-nosed dream

The music started and was I the perplexed one
I held my breath and said "May I have the next one?"
In my frightened arms, polka dots and moonbeams
Sparkled on a pug-nosed dream

There were questions in the eyes of other dancers
As we floated over the floor
There were questions but my heart knew all the answers
And perhaps a few things more

Now in a cottage built of lilacs and laughter
I know the meaning of the words "Ever after"
And I'll always see polka dots and moonbeams
When I kiss the pug-nosed dream

Pug nosed dream? What the ? I don't get it. The song sounds awful to me- Van Heusen has done much much better. This thing is all over the map harmonically.

I don't know bro ... it's fuckin' transportive and shit. Harmonicas suck ... this is about the lyrics and pug-nosed dreams.

Frank Sinatra at his best, of course, with Tommy Dorsey's big band

    C.... C....

Claudio Chirighin at his youthful best — some of the recordings he made 30 years after this one were unsurpassable masterpieces (like Sinatra/Basie)

  6. C.... C....

and not forgetting that this lovely song was composed by Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke!!!

  7. 8.... ....

Looks like there's 6 people who weren't invited to a country dance in a garden

    8.... ....

83jwilson looks like it’s up to 10… And I’m really glad they aren’t at that dance, good riddance

Pure class from the greatest EVER

  18. R.... P....

I used to take guitar lessons from the great jazz guitarist George Barnes a few years before he died, and he once mentioned he played guitar on this recording. It's Sinatra's first hit, from April 1940 with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

    R.... P....

    Wow! Interesting.

Ralph Porter Ralph took part in real history-making; cutting a record that people will be listening to 1,000 years from now (if we start electing leaders who believe in science).

  19. K.... H....

What a time......!! Today, some people would likely die laughing at these lyrics ...but it was him, and he was fantastic.

    K.... H....

I just heard an instrumental of this in my MIL's retirement home, and recalled all the lyrics. Rather than dying laughing, I long for more people to express and experience this kind of tenderness with their loved ones.

    K.... H....

I die laughing at lyrics of modern 'songs'. He told a story with this one and it's heartwarming. Few singers do that now. Shame

  20. D.... B....

Ele é melhor músico de todos
