Sinatra, Frank - Fugue For Tinhorns Lyrics

I got the horse right here, the name is Paul Revere.
And here's a guy that says that if all weather's clear,
Can do, can do, this guy says the horse can do.
If he says the horse can do, can do, can do.
I picked the Valentine, cause on the Morning Line,
The guy has got em figured at five to nine
But take the Epitaph, he went to buy a half,
He's got it cold in here in the Telegraph.
About Rivera's fight, I guess the sport's alright
Suppose it all depends if it rained last night.
I know it's Valentine, the morning works were fine
You know the jockey's brother is a friend of mine
But just a minute, boys, I got the feedback's choice,
It says the great grandfather was Aqua Poise.
I give you Paul Revere, and it's no bum steer
It's from a man right here that's real sincere
I picked my Valentine cause on the Morning Line
The guy has got em figured at five to nine
But take the Epitaph, he went to buy a half,
He's got it cold in here in the Telegraph.
Epitaph, Valentine, Paul Revere, I got the horse right here.

Sinatra, Frank Fugue For Tinhorns Comments
  1. f.... ....

I saw Frank Jr. in the mid-70s live at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. He seemed like a good guy who was being mismarketed. When the cameras were off, the older host scolded the (well behaved) teens in the audience on the dance floor, saying “*this* guy is clean-cut, like you should be.” Frank Jr. looked appropriately uncomfortable. With the right image consultant I think he’d have had a stronger singing career. Instead, his peak was as his father’s band leader and arranger. Amazingly enough, Frank Jr. looked and sounded like a clone of his Dad as he got older.

  2. J.... ....

The third guy who comes in is so good!!!!

  3. K.... H....

This is actually a cannon, not a fugue. Just to be precise.

  4. E.... C....

    mbmbam really aged huh

  5. R.... T....

    Amazing...

  6. C.... d....

Frank Loesser was a genius, but these singers were pretty good too.

  7. A.... A....

Lovely, but cannot compare to the movie. Sorry guys.

  8. M.... E....

    Old meanie bing

  9. g.... ....

Dig that groovy 1969 beat. Makes this piece sound more dated than the 1950 original. Nice singing, though.

  10. a.... ....

Surprised that Frank Jr.did not become a top vocalist. Here he stands out, even with the song maven BING

  11. D.... C....

Bing's a beast with the timing on this song! Brilliant!!!

  12. D.... C....

    Love this song!!!

  18. c.... f....

The most clever song I’ve ever heard 😍😍😍

    c.... f....

    Absolutely, brilliantly written!

    c.... f....

Expect it to go into "Follow the Fold"!

  19. U.... ....

WOW Frank Jr. sounded like his dad.

    U.... ....

Undeterred He sure did.Almost can't figure out which is which in the lower and middle voice range just by listening.

    U.... ....

Sadly that’s why he never made it big, Plus he only sang jazz like dad, if his sister hadn’t sang rock she probably won’t be a one hit wonder. But her boots were made for walking, and he just stood still, hardheaded like his dad too.

    U.... ....

    @Russell Price 2 Number 1 singles, 4 top tens; and 9 top 40's makes her a one-hit wonder?

  20. L.... L....

    BEAUTIFUL. <3

  21. S.... M....

There was a movie in 1980´s were an old man sang this song to his grandson, somebody knows the name of this movie? I think it was a TV movie. Thanks!

    S.... M....

Oh God, You Devil!  was the flick and that's where I heard this tune first.

    S.... M....

Oh god you devil introduced to this song - stayed with me since! :)

  22. J.... N....

    Rest in peace, Frank Jr!

  23. a.... d....

I kind of like the original because they have a New Jersey voice.😕

  24. A.... ....

The boys can sing, but they seem a bit subdued with ol' Bing.

    A.... ....

Bing was a beast, it takes a lot to hang with him!

  25. T.... ....

the original had a swing beat, this version had a rock beat.  Cool

  26. M.... ....

The thing is that Bing Crosby & Frank Sinatra didn't want to retire and "craved" ALL the adoration of an audience & public.  There was NO room for the kids to make it on their own if their famous parents kept going and going and going.  Of course the kidnapping put a "crimp" in Frank Juniors career.  Gary wrote a book about what a strict taskmaster that Bing was.  Bordering on abuse I guess.  Barbra Streisand has a step sister (Roslyn Kind) that sounds just like her, but she never was famous.  Who wants to hear 2 of the same thing ?

    M.... ....

+MrSting17 I have read that Phil Crosby said that what Gary said about his father was an exaggeration/lie. He said his parents were strict, but never beat them until they were black and blue and said that he only has fond memories of his father. So it comes down to that Bing can't defend himself against any accusations made against him. And I never knew about Barbra's step sister! I need to see if I can find her!

    M.... ....

    MrSting17 the best voice ever

  27. B.... F....

Whomever is playing the piano has some chops!

  28. c.... ....

Thanks for sharing.  Great to be able to hear the lyrics to this so clearly.

  29. M.... ....

My hat's off to anyone who can sing a three-part round such as this and not end up floating off and singing someone's part!  I know I can't ever do it; this song is a triumph both for vocalists and its composer!

    M.... ....

Lizzie I'm playing Benny right now! It is easier than it looks, and tons and tons of fun!

    M.... ....

I know this is like 3 years late haha but i sang this in our production of it and sang the epitaph part, the trick for me to learn it was to literally just ignore everyone else and just sing yours, dont really listen to anyones voice but your own, actually one time during one of our live shows i sorta "zoned out" while singing my part and almost missed my cue to jump back in haha

    M.... ....

NovaInc. Cool! I'm playing rusty Charlie and big Jule!!!

    M.... ....

NovaInc. So I sing this song

    M.... ....

Try the triple counterpoint "I am so proud" from "The Mikado"!

  30. F.... K....

Have Mercy. Junior Sounds Just Like Senior. They All Sound Amazing.

  31. s.... ....

Never realized Junior's voice was so good. Sounds like his old man with a slight upper variation.

  32. O.... ....

Frank Jr was a better singer even than Bing to judge from this! Never realized he was so good.

    O.... ....

Bing Crosby was Frank Sinatra's idol. You cannot compare a young Sinatra junior to an elderly Crosby.

  33. B.... ....

Never saw the likes of 2 sons of pre-eminent legends as Gary Crosby and Frank Sinatra, Jr. performing with Bing---WOW, what a treat--even though I don't like that song at all---it's a joy to see them all together. Wonder if Frank Sr, stepped in and joined them for a quartet? Nicoley, you are a GREAT, GREAT proponent of Bing that keeps his memory alive---I SALUTE YOU!!!!! Keep posting these nuggets--we love 'em!!!
