Sinatra, Frank - Can't We Be Friends? Lyrics
I took each word she said as gospel truth
The way a silly little child would.
I can't excuse it on the grounds of youth,
I was no babe in the wild, wild wood.
She didn't mean it,
But now it's too late.
I thought I'd found the girl of my dreams,
Now it seems,
This is how the story ends:
She's gonna turn me down and say,
"Can't we be friends?"
I thought for once it couldn't go wrong,
Not for long,
She's gonna turn me down and say,
"Can't we be friends?"
Why should I care though she gave me the air,
Why should I cry,
Heave a sigh,
And wonder why,
And wonder why?
I thought I found the gal I could trust,
Watta bust, this is how the story ends:
She's gonna turn me down and say,
"Can't we be just friends?"

I would give my life for theirs
I always felt Frank was dead on, She was leading the rest. Best voice ever IMO
Geez, Ella is gorgeously stunning! So beautiful!
No one today sings like this!
Outstanding
Los 2 mejores generos de VOS De todos los tiempos!

1.All Dogs go to heaven
2.Ducktales
3.What could be this greatful
Frank supported and stood by many black artists and for that, he's a legend in my book for who he is than for his music
What are they saying at the end
Big Ella
Truly one of the best singers ever! A once in a lifetime talent. She can oerform wirh anyone and ends io outsinging and out oetforming the greatest singers! Love her and miss. her!
Very Funny, Love It! Thank You!
They blend perfectly together with the song(s). And also his arms around her. Yet possible in the USA?
In those times, such interracial friendliness was deeply frowned upon.
The sponsors would have been horrified, by Frank's daring..
Not that Frank cared. The KKK burnt an effigy of him, when he was
best man at Sammy Davis Jnr's wedding. Quincy Jones said it best,
when he said Frank was a soul brother at heart.
A white man could touch a black woman, but a black man could not do the same to a white woman...until Harry Belafonte and Petula Clarke held hands on TV in the late 60s. @Rob Jones
No matter which #American CANDIATE WINS 2DAY, we can all still be friends :DAnd for all those who really know me, You already know who I'm VOTING for :p
Definitely quite humorous, put a big smile on my face.
wonderful
what a Voice
Two of the BEST!!!
I'd much rather "turn up" to this kinda music than anything on the radio today
+supbrahm
What's wrong with having some standard instead of none at all.
"Why not release all those dear inmates from prison." "No one deserves to be Judged."
so wondeful, put a big smile on my face
love this song is so good
who else checked out every chick frank named to see how spot on ella was?lol
Ella the Beast...that Dinah was SPOT ON but that Della Reese was low-key brilliant too.
2 of the greatest stars ever <3<3
Classic! What year was this? Also check out Ella & Louis singing this song, the best!
priceless memories
no, you cant cuz you black!!
fuckboi
Hahahaah
He said "no we can't because you're black" The title of this video "Can't we be friends?" He's a fukboi
Moitheri, Frank sinatra was a great person...remember when they couldnt let black people stay in hotels in vegas, Trump told hotel owners that if they dont allow Sammy Davis jn, he wouldnt perfom either. Lets not hate people who have actually stood with black folks
who is the ONE who dislicked this!!!!
Frank and Ella had such great chemistry. Too bad they didn't do an album together. Also, based on what I've read, Ella was one of the few singers Frank genuinely respected and admired.

I don't think he was racist, Sammy Davis jr. was one of his best friends, he also was fan of L Armstrong, he even hug Ella every time they sang together, so, I don't think so.
Frank Sinatra does not have the vocal ability to sing with Ella ... Another overstated white man!
Moitheri Lesibu listen to him in 1930's - 1950's his voice was great but smoking killed his range.
Militant3mpress frank was no racist and campaigned for an end to segregation of black people long before it was fashionable. Frank single handedly brought down segregation on the Nevada strip by walking out of and cancelling shows in venues where black people were not allowed to eat with white people and would not return until policies were changed. He was no racist.
I love you, Ella :*
I miss this entire period. So many great singers. So many great writers. Lucky me, I had the good sense to enjoy both Ella (the Gershwin Songbook) and Frank (Only the Lonely). But, boy, have musical times changed, even C&W. Find me someone in C&W who sings greater than Patsy Cline (remember that fabulous intro into "Sweet Dreams of You"?). I've even caught someone who's just a knockout but whose work escaped me during "my best years, Irene Kral singing "Some Other Time."
@Jay Young I miss it to... my FB page is full of it! ;-)
@Philippe Mergan I just finished listening to one of my favorites, "Et Pourtant," by Edith Piaf, France's Billie Holiday!
Yes sir. Lucky you. Glad you appreciated it while they were around. I can't stand this crap music now. I'm glad folk is making a bit of a return, and there is a couple good rock and roll bands. Only a little bit of swing though. Check out a girl named Haley Reinhart, she blew my mind.... Hopefully music gets back to its roots soon
Where have the Saturday night shows like this gone!!
Thank you so much for sharing!
Sometimes I think songwriters get a bit too clever when rearranging lyrics from the standards. Although these consummate professionals keep it together I don't think they match the version Ella made with Louis, which is also available on YouTube.
1) Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra
2) swing
3) march
4) Again, like frank sinatra and like them both together. A little quicker of a pace compared to others
Well, folks . . . it's rare to hear a reference to Dinah Washington in a pop-entertainment setting of the time. She was considered too BLUSEY for the mass (White/Pat Boone/Lawrence Welk) record-buying audience.
She was a Force-Of-Nature---married eight times---dead at 39.
Curious if this clip was made before or after her big break-through with "What A Difference A Day Made?"
Gary in Arizona/March '14
Married 8 times, dead at 39??? Geez!! I didn't know that. Wow
Did Kay Swift compose this?
Great song, no matter who sings it!
Great share! Thank you
Aww I love this
First listen to this and I think it is brilliant !!
Thank you for sharing this gem.
You're Welcome
Thank you so much for the clip to keep the legacy alive!
