Simple Minds - Premonition Lyrics

Real to real
Fact to fact
Nothing moving happening
Artifact
The waiting room
Waits
Limbo can burn
But the original sin
The incentive to learn

Fly over land
Where no hearts can beat
The metal rain pouring
Raining
Raining
Raining down on me
Hole in my head
Where the creature has crawled
And It's burning and turning
Out of control

Real to real
Fact to fact
Nothing moving happening
Artifact
I in this land
Sand in the eye
So here we go
The happy man dies

Brave little world
Well you cry once again
Remodel life
Remake and remodel
Remoel men
Protection Protection
The sound of machines
Image is burning
As they grind to a halt
Crying and crying

The sound of the shells
Tears turn to salt
Cry and I cry
Just one more illusion
I cry just for you
There's a hole in my head
Where the voices came through

Fly over land
Waiting and waiting
Where no hears can beat
Machinery's burning
The metal rains pour
Pour
Raining
Raining down on me

Premonition

  3. K.... ....

Is it just Kerr that's from the South Side of Glasgow or the whole band?

  4. G.... M....

1979. My favorite year. Simple minds, one of my favorite bands ever. Total heaven. Thank God they are still around.

  5. P.... F....

    What a line-up, though !!
    Brian McGee on drums
    Derek Forbes on bass
    Michael MacNeill on keyboards
    Charlie Burchill on guitar
    Jim Kerr on vocals.
Very difficult to to find a better one than the Minds of 79 - 81 !!

  6. S.... ....

    OMG this is good!
    were was i in 1979...

    T.... ....

    @Samoseiland

    T.... ....

Mr Bean, the way he dances on this . .

    T.... ....

    @Paul Fodz
    yep. he could never dance

  11. p.... ....

They were the Best Band in the world at some point between the 70s and the 80s, and it seems no one realised it!   That is simply ridiculous :-(

  12. J.... A....

    Now THAT'S Simple Minds.

  13. C.... C....

How much of a star should Derek Forbes have been (along with Mick MacNeil)? It really is a travesty. Kerr and Burchill really should be ashamed of themselves.

  14. T.... K....

Derek Forbes is the best bass player ever? I second that

  15. P.... T....

    Here we go!!!!!!

  16. P.... T....

    Brilliant

  17. D.... E....

Derek Forbes is the best bass-player ever....

  18. m.... ....

    Thanks for uploading.

  19. s.... ....

so on the mark there - a totally different band to what they ended up as - shame they never got the recognition like joy division at the time

  20. D.... M....

    Amazing Derek Forbes!

  21. m.... ....

putain qu'ils étaient bons à leurs débuts!!!!!!

    m.... ....

Même si j'aime "New Gold Dream" J'avoue que leur meilleur période reste 79-81. #Derek Forbes.

  22. e.... ....

SM in New York, In 1979? I thought they toured cross the atlantic much later, after NEw Gold Dream (1982) and chartered only with DOn't you forget about me in 1985.

  23. F.... ....

THE BASS !! OMG DEREK !!

    F.... ....

    florian13001 Hypnotic. 😎😎

  24. 4.... ....

An amazing snapshot of why the real simple minds sound is still so appealing, before they went down the stadium road. The bassline is a killer and I totally expect to hear David Byrne coming in with "I can't seem to face up to the fact..." The Roxy Music influence is plain to hear, and Joy Division too. They were so far ahead of the game between 79 and 82. So good to have Youtube to see this again to remember how great they were back then.

  25. t.... ....

Blur's girls who like boys who like boys... is in it.
Gainsbourg one was Down on the beach

  26. t.... ....

This is their all-time number 1 for me. 20 years of sounds in one track! They took Roxy Music - love is the drug) and mixed it with Talking Heads (Psychokiller), even the singing becomes very Brian Ferry at times and the moves Very David Byrne. And all this gives you the sound for H-Town "Part time lover", Abba-Gimme, Gimme (same year), a Serge Gainsbourg thing, Eric Serra - le Grand Bleu, with lots of Spandau Ballet riffs and Duran Duran screetching in between, amazing, Pre-Chemical Brothers

  27. m.... ....

@Craiggrapple I think in the Hurrah Club NYC, October 1979. At least there is a bonus track from that concert on the reissue of the Real To Real album.

  28. B.... ....

    Pure class

  29. S.... H....

@moldyolddough1 I think you could say they were dependant on each other as a unit creatively..The whole is greater than it's parts. At the end of the day any great band is for that very reason what was great the fact that they made the music they did ,together!

  30. S.... H....

Iggy Pop was in the front row watching.

  31. m.... ....

@Craiggrapple It was filmed at Hurrah's in October of 79.

  32. C.... S....

Where in NY was this recorded?

  33. B.... ....

@MrAmadaeus I totally agree, simple minds were over as a creative force when Derek Forbes left

  34. D.... M....

    Simply amazing version.

  35. D.... H....

The band were so good with this line up. After the original rhythm section had gone, it was never the same... :(

  36. B.... -....

this bass line is ACE!!! Their first 3 to 4 albums were amazing

  37. M.... A....

Charlie Burchill playing a Flying V!

  38. P.... F....

Their, always troublesome for all bands, second album, Reel To Reel Cacophony, was a pretty good effort that deserves a dust off, now!!
There was a good, long instrumental intro on this live version, too...

  39. P.... F....

Their, always troublesome for all bands, second album, Reel To Reel Cacophony, was a pretty good effort that deserves a dust off, now!!

  40. t.... ....

The drummer (Brian McGee) sings backing vocals on this song. Notice at 3:40 onwards that his lips never move. Having said that, Its still brillant footage & a brilliant performance. Shame someone has messed around with it!!!!
