Simple Minds - Oh Jungleland Lyrics

Somebody's screaming out
Somebody's knocking out
Somebody's calling out, come hear it again
Street bells are ringing out
Young girls are singing out
Boys are building up to be men
You've got the love
Then here comes the blood last
The father, the mother, the sister, the chain
Sweet inspirations
Or a cold hearted nations baby
The young man, the brothers, the killers explain

Oh Jungleland
They call you home sweet home
You make me feel so sad, to leave here all alone
But there is a kid called Hope
And he's holding out his hand
He sees the Northern Lights
above this highrise land
Oh Jungleland
Oh Jungleland
Oh Jungleland

In the city, get out the city pretty quick
I've got a prayer, I wanna sing it to you
It says, may little children forget the wild things

But no one listens cause nobody cares
When you've got the love drugs
And you've got the long nights
You got the heartbeat that spirals to heaven

Here comes summer, here comes violence
Over your shoulder the soul boy explains
Oh Jungleland
They call you home sweet home
You make me feel so sad, to leave here all alone
But there is a kid called Hope
And he's holding out his hand
He sees the Northern Lights
above the highrise land

But blood is thicker than water
But blood is sweeter than Holy Lands
Unto the Devil a daughter
When my love sings it's an angel song she sings it

Don't look back, never look back
Don't look back, never look back
Oh Jungleland

-The best part of the song is at the end when Jim repeats the chorus:
"When you've got the love drugs
And you've got the long nights
You got the heartbeat that spirals to heaven!"
    -Its totaly indescribable ecstasy !

I grow up in Scotland when S.M were the biggest thing, even seen them in Barrowlands. FUCKIN AMAZING!

    A.... E....

They were pretty big in the Detroit suburbs too. :)

  8. S.... E....

    I love a flip side

I've always loved Simple Minds work and for me this is one of my favourites as its got so much warmth to this track which makes the hair stand up on my body and tears form in the corners of my eyes where the sound takes over the emotions from within. LOVE MUSIC AND WHAT IT DOSE TO YOU . Thanks Simple Minds:-)

  16. o.... ....

Great tune for cruising down the road. Just can't help drummin' on the steering wheel, dash, my knee, etc......

  17. E.... C....

Great song, great album, great band. Very first song I heard by them was this on my cousin's cassette (huge Simple Minds fan) back in 1990 and I've been a fan ever since. They've just got so many great songs it's impossible to nail just one as a favourite - Waterfront, Belfast Child, See the Lights, Up On the Cat Walk, I Travel..this...and other criminally underrated gems. I rest my case lol

  18. d.... .....

Che dire mitici Simple minds da sempre nel mio cuore per la loro immensitá!!!!!

  19. B.... v....

    Oh Super die Siple Minds

  20. B.... M....

Great times in West Germany when this was first released in 1985!! Love it.

  21. J.... B....

Back in the 80s they were unfairly compared to U2..I really felt they held their own as a great band despite the silly U2 comparison.

    J.... B....

I can hear the u2 , but man to me , this shit is superior to u2. Very unfair, Just more power and creativity I think!

  22. D.... B....

Best track on the album, bit of a remix and single would have been massive.

  23. D.... 2....

This is one of my most favorite songs because it is a masterpiece! Every instrument, including the voice, is Awesome!

  24. a.... ....

    Profondo amore 💗

  25. Z.... a....

    Ah...Jim Kerr...i love you 💕

  26. J.... E....

One of my most favorite songs!

  27. T.... ....

All the songs on this album have super catchy intros

  28. T.... S....

Jim Kerr's voice is so male and charismatic

  29. F.... s....

Quoi de mieux... Je vous aime les ami(e)s. Carpe diem.

  30. J.... C....

Thank you lissie devaney for this album in 1990 miss you xo_*

  31. i.... ....

why on earth was this not a single, its one of my favorite songs

    i.... ....

It's certainly the best single on that album. Maybe they thought it was too long to get much radio airplay.

  32. S.... T....

This was my favorite album of the 80s because every song on it is great! I had it on vinyl and I played it constantly!

    S.... T....

I had it on cassette and wore it out!

  33. J.... P....

Isso foi anos 80. Intenso e inesquecível

  34. P.... ....

Jim Kerr thinks this album is too commercial but I think it's deep where it needs to be and fantastic all the way through.

    P.... ....

One of my favorite albums ever.

    P.... ....

    Probably their best album

  35. R.... S....

Drums r so good in this song, and Jim Kerr's singing - perfection. Love it!

  36. S.... C....

    one of my favorite bands.

  37. N.... M....

Feel like I just stepped into a time machine, great tune!

  38. T.... S....

Simple Minds were really impressive by their creativity during this fantastic era ! The word '' fantastic '' is revelant because there was so much impact on the imagination. Movie too. I think about St Elmo's Fire or Breakfast Club with some powerful affection. 80's remains unique but far now.

  39. T.... B....

    Mel gaynor on drums. EPIC!!!

    T.... B....

truly one of the best drum productions ever, this album

    T.... B....

one of the best drummers in the world

  40. J.... S....

This song makes me feel good.

    J.... S....

    Maybe it's the "love drugs"...lol

    J.... S....

    I agree you, totally

  41. g.... ....

Always thought this had a U2 feel to it!

    g.... ....

    Steve Lilliwhite produced both?

  42. S.... ....

    Believe... +*

  43. C.... S....

sooooo sadddddd.... love that part of the trax.......

    C.... S....

    +Cl Sm me too!

  47. D.... G....

I love this song. This is great road trip music!

  48. D.... T....

to me it means its all the things a child goes through growing up in the city, hence the lyric, here comes summer here comes violence , family problems , love ones you'll leave behind, but you're homesick, when you leave, but never look back, this is an anthem for me, so I hope it helps, and thanks to the loader.

  49. A.... F....

    Sad lyrics, great music!!

  50. T.... S....

Someone can please explain the meaning of ''Jungleland ? ''. I'm a french listener of Simple Minds and I try to understand the sense. Thanks.

    T.... S....

+Greg Norton Jim Kerr is a big Glasgow Celtic football fan and there is an old part of the stadium when it was all standing called the jungle, which in its time was crazy when a goal was scored .I,ve been told that the song is about this part of the stadium you,ll notice in the lyrics the line (but theres a kick of hope)

    T.... S....

+kerkhamo Could be truth - pittyfull that Jim himself can not give us the real story. Maybe he want's us to puzzling (-:. Anyway, I love this song very much -  I often listen it, great classic

    T.... S....

    T.... S....

+Thomas Edouard. One of the best Simple Minds songs ever imho!.
Kerkhamo has described the Jungle spot on. Sadly a great deal of hatered is shouted from the "Jungle" and this song, in particular, is an extension to a bigger picture of the "Jungleland" being a reference to the city of Glasgow in general.

One of the greatest cities on the planet divided by a deep sectarianism between Catholic Celtic supporters and Protestant Rangers supporters. The song hints of the sadness and violence that comes from these deep rooted and continuously re-inforced hatereds but that maybe there is the hope that an escape is possible.

These sentiments are a undertone to several Simple Minds songs.

    T.... S....

yes thank you jim kerr said it was about Glasgow in some recent interviews

    +rich moore underrated saga..?

    R.... M....

Rich Moore the best band simple minds

    R.... M....

I sure loved them in the eighties. I was more of a Simple Minds guy than a U2 guy. I liked U2, as well, though. Simple minds brought back a mystical, enchanting quality to pop music, which punk/post-punk often lacked. I think bands such as Dead Can Dance were the next as mystical pop.

  54. m.... s....
