Simple Minds - Careful In Career Lyrics
Careful In Career
Take care
I take care
It's a shame
To go away
It's a shame
To die already
Looking at you
Looking in through at me
Pouring X years of life
Pouring in ecstasy
Performance or ecstasy
I'm looking at you
Looking in through at me
I've come so far already
So far
I've come so far
Careful In Career
Take care
I take care
I see the lodgers
They are walking
Hands over my eyes
I see you yawning
Shambling
Drugged up by the heat and so
Looking at you
Looking in through at me
Pouring X years of life
Pouring in ecstasy
In performance or in ecstasy
I'm looking at you
Looking in through at me
I've come so far already
I've come so far already
It's a shame
Looking at you
Looking in through at me
All in ecstasy
I've come so far already
All in ecstasy
I've come so far already
All in ecstasy
I've come so far already
I've come so far
I've come so far
It's a shame
It's a shame
Looking at you
Looking in through at me

Simple Minds Careful In Career Comments
Don't compare to U2. Totally different band ffs
Drums sound backwards. Blinding. Love this era. Voice Jim Kerr. Not vocals. As if it's an instrument.
Great use of feedback Charlie.
Drums sound backwards
Brilliant track.
Maybe it's not their best tune but it's really fascinating 👍first time I've heard it, I was 14 and a lil emotional new romantic girl..that's 33 y ago..i loved it at that time..still love it today❤️especially Jim's voice.
I had a friend who used to dance to this back in the day...okay- she was a stripper! It was magical! It was quite fun watching her dance (slowly) to Stigmata too!
Listened from a different perspective this is prog rock.
What an album. Sons and facination got my pre owned copy delivered from ebay this morning looks more like new. I especially love this track with its dark edge haunting sounds
careful in career a total masterpiece. It's great to hear it again.
Still edgy and dark , just like when i first heard it....
When the record company told Jim,Charlie and Mel to start making money and they soled out Michael and Derek, that's where i lost my simple mind
Misterious song
best SM song imo
@The Blissful Zombie really? Its a great track, top ten sm i think.
Creepy too
Perhaps the idea is that the man singing has begun to realise the monster his career is turning him into... and the process can't be reversed... he's too careful
I had just moved to San Francisco. I was 20 years old. :Paul, Susan and myself left Cincinnati for good! We drove out in 4 days. This album, and especially this song were played over and over "Its a....shame......." ...that one little reminder.
"Sister Feelings Call" is the better half of that whole EP "Sons & Fascination." Both are great, but "Sister has the edge.":
I find this track disturbing, lugubrious as if it was a passage under a tunnel we still don't know the exit... we ignore the thickness of the dark, there's some stressful, marked out road to overcome the dismay of old metropolises something very passing, double-edged !!
Looking at you, looking in at through me
I've come so far already
So wonderful, so wonderful
This is about my porn career
@Jeremy Feit is that you 'Ryan Ryder'?
underground 80s jewel- the BEST decade early 80s was mindblowing- you knew some shit was about to happen- it was all an adventure- new times are soo boring.
One of my favourites, along with Wonderful in young life, from this era
Yeah Wonderful In Young Life here also....When I was 16 the lyrics meant nothing but a 42 I understand and it brings a tear to my eyes sometimes, lol! "Whatever the weather the climate is perfect..." When you are young and in "love" or with good friends, it could be a blizzard or a heatwave. As long as you are with them it's good.
These fuckers were ahead of everyone! Do not get the recognition they fully deserve this music is atmospheric full of weird sounds and reverb, with Jims echoing vocals. Mind blowing! Futuristic euro mindbending brilliance!!!
Dave
hey Dublin i believe it is generally recognised that he left over artistic differences. after "don't you forget about me" let's be honest things really changed. some people just don't want to sell their art like that. that stadium stuff well ...
Wow fantastic! Love it :-D
totally floored too and since i first heard this on its release..
same, new gold dream is my life soundtrack now, f**king amazing, simple minds were on a different ear fucking level for the first 5 albums... and afterwards too but that is an argument for another day :)
Fucking brilliant!!!!
UNA CANZONE MAGNIFICA!!!!!!!!!
In a radio interview in 1985 Charlie Burchill said that Derek wanted to do less touring and to take things a bit easier. I don't know for sure, but there may also have been some differences. After all, why would he leave after the massive success of the "Don't You" single, which gave the band their big break in the US?
I think that the deception of that hit not being an actual Simple Minds song and Derek's less prominent role in the band's sound may have influenced his departure.
It seems the ladies eye for Derek and vice versa was a factor, which ladies I'm not sure, but ladies close to the band.caused friction.
He was a true master of his art.An icon of the four stringed instrument.
Do you know why Forbes left? The keyboard player stayed on for a while but left as well a few years after the went mega. Artistic differences?
From what I've read in different places, Forbes was pulling too many girls and Kerr got fed up/jealous and got him tossed out of the band. MacNeil just got tired with the touring lifestyle and wanted to spend more time at home.
Better than U 2 ever will make
@snortbrick True Steve! I agree. Next time I visit the remote villages of Africa, I will play them this tune!!! lol! Great to hear from you, its been a while!
the masai?
@YCSMusic
Then by all means try to find the limited edition remaster from 2002 with the cardboard package.
And I agree with you: The later years are commercial and not-so-wonderful. They died when Derek left.
Classic mate.
