Simple Minds - Big Sleep Lyrics

So where did you go?
Where do you go in the Big Sleep
Going out in the Deep Sleep
Is where you're wandering now
So where did you go
When you're in the Big Sleep
Drifting in wildlife
And still you're wandering now

We were on the top and the world was spinning
We were only young in the whirlpool of warning
Communication lost in the thundering rain style
A shelter from the storm in the early beginning
Going out in the Big Sleep, out in the Big Sleep
Could have been years, you know it could have been years
Or only seconds ago

Big Sleep, Deep Sleep

Where are you now?
Now that you're up in Big Sleep
Valuable friend
They saw you leaving this way

We were on the top and the world was spinning
We were only young in the whirlpool of warning
Communication lost in the thundering rain style
A shelter from the storm in the early beginning
Where did you go?
Immaculate friend
For a lifetime I'm grateful
And it's only seconds away

Big Sleep, Deep Sleep

For evermore
If only you could see me
If only you could see me
If only you could see
Forever
Coming home in the Big Sleep
Coming home

    not'jeunesse :)

  39. Paul Fodz

As much as I love this album, especially Derek's bass playing, which was on a different level to many at the time, I often think Pete Walsh over-produced it and that frustrates me.

Still, it's one of the best albums of the 80s, which contradicts what I said above, bemusingly.

  65. Kantstenchon themel

All the album is a dream!. When I first heard it at the record shop I bought it immediately and took a bus back home. A 45-minute trip that i spent looking at every detail on the sleeve, reading all credits and so on. Then I played it real loud and I thought oh my! all these songs are pure gems!! that's one work of art

  66. David Bull

A truly extraordinary album I only discovered recently. Ive known the singles since the early 90s but this, New Gold Dream and Someone Up There Likes Me are transcendently beautiful.

  79. Dale Parfitt

  80. caleb rush

brilliant track from a brilliant album.

  85. Bert Graef

one of the most remarkable albums of all time, by any band.

    Darren Parker

    Totally agree

    THE GAMING SOLDIER

True. Not a weak track on it. Certainly Top 5 Desert Island albums for me.

    MrMervinJMinky

Yes, it is a stunning album, will never forget the first time I listened to it, couldn’t believe that nobody had recommended it to me before 👍 ....and I’m Scottish!

  86. Frn 86

    Communication lost...

  87. Arancia Meccanica

    la mia preferita.......

  88. Ascend SG

Don't think I had realised at the time just how good the bass playing was throughout this album & the previous - why the hell did he leave the band? This track & Hunter & the Hunted still get me every time.
Like all this album except for Promised You A Miracle, which I think is cobbled together pish & spoils it for me. Apart from that this album & Sons & Fascination, although quite different from each other, still get played a lot.

  89. Ezio

Questo brano continua a strizzarmi l'anima e riesce a spremerne la gioventù e qualche lacrima...amo queste note

  90. Candelario Ramirez

    what music so good yes

  91. ADAM CHUGG

could well be my absolute favourite simple minds track - it has such haunting beauty to it. Bought the album the week it was released - loved it - and especially this song.

  92. Lore Lorghi

    Glissed bass tune is amazing

  93. mr t johnson

gotta be the best track.. or am i just nostalgic - don't this so....

  94. Howard Whitworth

They just lost a massive part of the band when Derek Forbes left.

    Darren Parker

Absolutely. without a doubt. His basswork on this album along with Mel Gaynors drums are the main highlights for me and the reason I keep listeing to it year after year after year,I never tire of this album.Simple Minds at the top of their game, they should never have let him go.Although I did read somewhere that they actually never sacked him.

    ShattyMcPants

Darren Parker I agree! so hypnotic

    tafur1099

Derek was the reason that Herbie Hancock (who was in an adjacent studio) sat in and played on hunter and hunted on this album; because he respected his playing so much.

  95. cutterfield

I love this album so much, I almost cry every time I hear it.

    Pia Pausch

    @femfromholland Dont cry now.

    Jason Goodacre

It’s probably the only album I would say I would never get tired of listening to. Just incredible music.

    francesco divita

    Gd Scott

Yip me to and I cry with love and good memories
