Originally, this song was called "Celtic Strings" in an instrumental and less complete version. It was released on one of the singles of "She's a River" and now, complete with lyrics, guitar riffs and detailed arrangements.

Reworked version of instrumental "Celtic Strings" from 1995 single "She's a River", E55 is another great instrumental b-side from that single. I couldn't believe it when I first heard this on their new album, it's about time this gem was brought to light. E55 should be as well. It starts of quiet with simple piano but builds up and goes off.
Not to start anything, both groups are great but this album blows the latest U2 out of the water.

yes this is the voice of jim kerr, but he shares some common tones with Bowie's voice.
On another hand, there was a hit in the 90's where the voice of the singer sounded like Bowie's voice, i believed that he was Bowie singing. Don't remeber the title and the singer.

First time I heard this on Radio 2 and then the CD/Vinyl album and then last night live at Manchester Albert Hall reinforces my view that this is a classic track of many written by Jim & Charlie. Enhances the qualities of all of the band in harmony.

I think the intro of this song might put off a few people as it sounds bit sombre and slightly dull (might explain some of the dislikes) but once it transforms itself it really does shine brightly and intensely. A song of two halves.

Are they running out of ideas to simply but lyrics onto an otherwise fantastic instrumental? Celtic Strings is one of my favourite b-sides and I am not sure this Barrowland is an improvement.

This and signal are the only two tracks I listen to repeatedly. The rest I don't particularly care for. I've followed them for over 30 years. Travelled to see them. Thoroughly enjoyed some shows. Others not. I admit I have a strange relationship with this band. Maybe I expect too much. I don't know.
