My mother's name is Suzanne. She died in 2017. When I want to cry, I watch this. I played this video for my mom and I told her that I would listen/watch Nina Simone sing it the rest of my life and think about how much I loved her.

Actually, this is not the "alt version" of Leonard Cohen's Suzanne. That version is the studio version recorded May 3, 1969. This version is the live Suzanne one, from the Philharmonic Hall concert Oct 26, 1969. Both version are on the Sony 2008 TELL IT LIKE IT IS 2cd "Rarities and unreleased recordings 1967-1973". The reason for the confusion is the fact that Sony got the credits wrong on the cd back cover (and inside booklet, too). Studio "alt version" is on the 1st cd and this live one is on the second cd. This live Suzanne is used in the French fictional SUZANNE film (2013) by Katell Quillévéré (which is not about Cohen's Suzanne or Nina Simone!). The director got inspired after seeing Cohen's concert: "this old man had so much more power and energy than me", Quillévéré said at Sodankylä Midnight Sun Film Festival, summer 2014.
