Yes indeed it is a great song BUT Ms. Nina Simone did in fact butchered a classic so much it hurts my sensitive ears. The truth of the matter is she did a very shitty cover of it.
I think you should listen to Lenny Welch's version and you'll be converted.
Bad. As in not good. See Gladys Knight, Dusty Springfield, Johnny Mathis, or just about anybody else for a better vocal on this song. Nina is over rated big time.
