Simone, Nina - Just Like A Woman Lyrics
I take
just like a woman
Yes I do
And I make love
just like a woman
just like a woman
but I break
like a little girl
Nobody here feels any pain
tonight as I stand inside the rain
And no one has to guess
that baby's got new clothes
Lately I see her ribbons and her bows
and the problems
[REFRAIN]
I take
just like a woman...
It was raining from the first
and I was dying her of thirst
That's why I came here
and a long time's curse
and what's worse
is this pain in here
I can't stay in here
Ain't it clear
Ain't it clear
I must admit
I believe it's time for me to quit
And until we meet again
bein' introduced as friends
please don't let on
that you knew me when
I was hungry
and it was your world
[REFRAIN]
I take
just like a woman....
[Original lyrics]
Nobody feels any pain
Tonight as I stand here in the rain.
Everybody knows that baby's got new clothes,
But lately I see her ribbons and her bows
Have fallen from her curls.
She takes just like a woman.
She makes love just like a woman.
And then she aches just like a woman.
But she breaks just like a little girl.
Queen Mary, she's my friend.
Yes I believe I'll go see her again.
Nobody has to guess that baby can't be blessed
'Till she finally sees that she's like all the rest
With her fog, her amphetamines, and her pearls.
She takes just like a woman.
She makes love just like a woman.
And then she aches just like a woman.
But she breaks just like a little girl.
[Break:]
It raining at first, and I was dying there of thirst,
So I came in here.
And your long-time curse hurts, but what's worse
Is this pain in here.
I can't stay in here.
Ain't it clear...
That I just can't fit.
I believe it's time for us to quit.
But when we met again and are introduced as friends,
Please don't let on that you knew me when
I was hungry, and it was your world.
You take just like a woman.
You make love just like a woman.
And then you ache just like a woman.
But you break just like a little girl.

Simone, Nina Just Like A Woman Comments
I like how in the end she sings in first person :)
I've seen where people have taken this song as sexist..what the heck? I listened to the song lol. I love this song. We all have an inner child that we build an adult around that goes to work everyday and pays bills. That child doesn't go away. When the mood strikes to play in rain puddles or play a silly joke on someone. Jump into a fast car or dance around like some fool, its your inner child. Some of us didn't have the most wonderful childhood. We all have a sad story to tell. Most people who have a lonely child in them who suffers from depression, or anxiety, may turn to self destructive behaviors as an adult to mask the pain. Some have other destructive ways of dealing with it.. I take this song as it being a link to both the adult and child. An emotional balance between the two. An understanding that we can't escape from ourselves. Sexist..far from it.
I have gone through life not liking this type of jazz but listened to Nina Simone singing this on the Radio 3 jazz programme on English radio on 16 June 2019. I went to YouTube to listen again. I love it and does she play the piano herself in this version? Michael Parkinson
Wish I could find the piano sheet music for this somewhere :(
Sorry buddy - NINA's never the next best thing! She's the BEST - and that's the TRUTH.
This is one is good. But the Roberta Flack version from her 1970 album is Chapter Two, is better. I played that 8 track tape (!) to death in 1970.
@KT4Blue4You The depth of this woman’s soul can NEVER be compared to or OUTDONE by any White Artist and that’s the truth. No matter what you say theirs always sounds like IMITATION. Blacks created Rhythm and Blues, country, and Rock n’ Roll! They own that! Furthermore, that does not mean that every Black artist is necessarily good, but Nina is styling this song as if she lived it. Those White boys sound like they are copying the blues. If your ears were opened, you can hear the difference. If this sounds racist, it’s because somebody’s been white-washed. You may PREFER THEIRS, but Nina's is BETTER and cannot be learned like theirs. For you to class her as second, is furthermore disrespectful and racist.
best version
DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!
I love u anya
I love you too Justis
JMC1992
She touches me so deep in my soul. Thank you Simone for your amazing talent and emotion
I prefer her version to Morrison's, and that is saying something.
Who's playing Organ.?
Maravillosa canción..!!
That nude of Nina is quite beautiful.
Gorgeous little girl that's deep in your heart.
itshersong.period
Qué hermoso ❤️
Black magic <3<3<3
This is my first time hearing Ms Simone's version. OMG! What a soulful rendition. Excellent!
I started loving Nina's music since 1978 while still at the university. Ever since she is my favourite artist. Wow....
What a voice, such passion! This woman was awesome no matter what she sang.
Incredibly beautiful
Please tell my family and friends I was listening to this.. #dead
Taí uma Mulher que poderia ficar falando o dia inteiro e eu iria amar. Cantando, eu iria pirar. Madre de Dios.
beautiful
Wow,what an amazing artist
Wonderful version of this Dylan classic from a woman's point of view. Miss Simone was totally in a class all her own!
And she still is in a class all her own.
A wonderful gracious composition and arrangement put together for song from Nina
Nino Simon !
goosebumps, emotions, silver linings, fragments of joy, splendour, mystic ways, rolling souls, bleeding hearts etc etc tec
just love that classical sound!
I wish Bob Dylan could write all of her songs, or that she would sing all of his. He's as good a songwriter as Nina is a singer. Both are masters of their craft.
Rene Cantu this song is sexist, her hurt, feminine voice highlights it. Nina craved liberation her entire life, the thought of her singing a white man's songs makes me sick.
she wasn't being forced to sing this song. Step away from your outrage. If you can be so reductive as to describe Bob Dylan as you do then you appreciation for music must be low
BOB DYLAN ISNT WHITE, HAVE YOU HEARD HIS CATALOG ? WHO HES BEEN MARRIED TO? HURRICANE CARTER.... HIS FIRST COUPLE FOLK YEARS... THAT GUYS EARNED HIS STRIPES. HES THE BEST SONG WRITER OF ALL TIME IN MY OPINION BUT IT ALSO THE MOST COVERED ARTIST AS WELL , AND NOW THE WINNER OF THE NOBEL PIECE PRIZE...
The first time I heard Nina sing this I just knew she would change to the first person even before she did. She showed me the meaning of the song. Maroon Hamsa, your throwing labels around is extremely racist and sexist.
@MAROON HAMSA yeah, you explain to Nina Simone what's Black, how to be Black. You just do that. Clearly, Nina Simone needed your help on how to be Black.
Only Nina brings to this song the 'aches' and 'breaks' like a woman, with the sustained high notes and the hush at the end. She understands the blues.
This blew me away! Poignant, haunting, sad, inspirational, and authentic! This is the difference between OWNING THE BLUES versus singing it with other versions I’ve heard.
jeff buckley is the best version!
Maybe to you, but ABSOLUTELY not to me! Nina's is more poignant and haunting and is sung as though she lived it!
MASTERPEACE OF SINGING AND PLAYING R.I.P. NINOCHKA
Good cover of a Dylan classic. Blonde on Blonde.
touching
Diva...cantava com a alma.
Maravilhosa!
diva......
Escucha nuevas rolas!
Why do guy don't understand the pains women are going through their life ?? Pourquoi les mecs ne comprennent pas ce que les femmes traversent ( Douloureusement ) toute leur vie ??? Merci bob Dylan pour cette Magnifique chanson, Thx Bob Dylan for this Brilliant song

TheGarabella bravo! thank you for the lyrics.
For the longest I have always loved Bob Dylan's version, but then I was just recently introduced to Nina Simone's cover of Just like a women and, Wow.
Still love Bob Ds version but Nina's touched my soul.
+Sharon Campbell
Please listen to Roberta Flack's version. So Very Beautiful!
Roberta Flack...you owe it to yourself if you love this song!
I grew up on Rod Stewart's version of this song, then I discovered Van Morrison's then Bob Dylan and Nina. Van Morrison stands head and sholders above them all.
Richie Havens version is pretty kick-ass too.
Jeff Buckley's version live at Sin-é - which is just a small café, for those who don't know - is also gorgeous in a very different way. Maybe not for everyone, but definitely worth a listen!
Its out studio version now! even better
I love some N INA Simone! I listened 2 her n the 70's, 80's etc...she filled a void I had back then, but now no void exist. She is just so relaxing 2 listen 2.
I've always been partial to the Ritchie Havens Version.
THIS IS THE BEST VOICE ... LIKE A WOOMAN SHE IS A WOOMAN ..... I THINK
That said, it takes gritty courage and a depth of soul that only Nina has to sing it in the first person and to make it your own song...
..Kudos
Nonsense, Bob Dylan's version is unsurpassed.
Stewart Lawrence You don't know NINA!
essa música é do bob dylan
Just heard Charlotes´s version, it just does not speak to me. Dylan´s original is still the best, never heard Morrison´s, mus be pretty good tough, but I will put my chips on Nina´s cover.
awesome
As far as I am concerned this Bob Dylan song should be in the American Songbook. Frank Sinatra should have covered it.
I think Joe Cocker's ain't bad either.
Evening, Jacqie... I like her version. Very smooth. I loved Roberta too. Lamar
my favorite version is by Roberta Flack!
I love Nina Simone. The best know version is by the man who penned this tune.... Bob Dylan.
waaaat? no way. manfred mann's version is better, and actually so is jeff buckleys!
what a great rendition-------she's a genius
un avis que je partage!
I´m a Dylanist and all Van fan, Van did a copy, and this take´s a real cover by a great woman... My opinion. Thkz, @KTBlue4You, cheers!
Did you say the Van Morrison version was better? Ew. The Dylan original is the best version,
Nina is second, screw Van Morrison, a Northern Irishman singing in an faux-American Accent.
Charlotte Gainsbourg's version is in my opinion the best of this song :)
tem como apagar esses anúncios?
odeio esses anunciantes que enchem o saco aqui no YT!
O que Bob Dylan é realmente, é um sujeito muito antipatico
@123jsbach best comment
fantastica! semplicemente fantastica
This is mama AFrica.
Odily B Onyia amen!
The song was written by Bob Dylan and his version is the best , her version is different . But still Dylan version is the best one
Love it....as with any of her songs
@DylanStaniforth Thanks, got it/heard it. Interesting/cool. I think it would'a sound nice with a horn section too. Anyway, stick with Van Morrison I say, & you can't really go wrong! ;-)
Yeah vans version is pretty damn good. I've just heard 2 versions of his. One from the inner mystic bootleg and live at Winterland
@DylanStaniforth I can't find (& never heard) Van Morrison's version. I would like to though. I also can't find it on Amozon, or anywhere online (except for guitar tablature). WTF? Why would they make you take it down? If the copyright owner isn't interested in selling or making it available to the public, people should be able to do what they like with it.
Nina is a queen
She really sings this song. I love Nina Simone. She is an inspiration to me.
mamma mia
Brilliant rendition by the great Nina Simone!
