I heard it on my pandora playlist a week ago. It moved me to tears, and has been stuck in my head ever since. I love the song and Ms. Simone.

This song was sang at the height of when the blackman DID NOT HAVE THE VOTE in the USA and when almost everywhere in Africa was still under colonialism..We black people have come a LOOOONG WAAAY! . Jazz was our music made for us to cope with the racism and prejudices thrown at us from Monday to Saturday every week. Whilst Gospel was exclusive for Sunday to fill our spirits with hope for a better tomorrow in The Name Of The Lord.

This song was written by Billy Taylor as an instrumental, then Nina (I think) put lyrics to the song. And the words are so apropos. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

I hate how you anticipate the last chord over and over and over again but you ain't gonna get it. Nor will there be the feeling of relief and confirmation when it's finally delivered. In the end that song will just enslave you to discomfort. I suspect that this was intended.
