Simon & Garfunkel - Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream Lyrics
Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war
I dreamed I saw a mighty room
And the paper they were signing said
They'd never fight again
And when the papers all were signed
And a million copies made
They all joined hands and bowed their heads
And grateful prayers were prayed
And the people in the streets below
Were dancing round and round
And guns and swords and uniforms
Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war

Simon & Garfunkel Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream Comments
I don't know when this song has been sung
But what I know that was a time when people appreciated the meaningful songs
Yes, but you see our book says this, and their book says that, and really the guy in that temple over there resembles our guy a little too much, and freedom comes at a price, and those people have oil.
So you see, we had to fight, it was for the purposes of national security!
It would be great if human beings
Were great at being human
And if all of mankind
Were made up of kind men
It would be wonderful if common knowledge
Was knowledge commonly known
And if the light from being enlightened
Into every heart was shown
It would be fantastic if the war to end all wars
Was the last war that we fought
It would be amazing if we learned the lessons
From every lesson we were taught
It would be cool if our freedom
To us was freely granted
And if every seed of kindness
Would grow wherever planted
It would be glorious if neighbors were neighborly
And prejudice a forgotten word
It would be awesome if we shared everything
And being greedy was absurd
It would be spectacular if the golden rule
Was golden to every man
And the good things that we ever did
Was everything that we can.

In spite of its illusionary theme I love this song.
please don't feed the trolls.
The song is peculiar, I don't live a life hoping for peace, but this song sure makes me wish for it.
LOVE THIS SONG .....JUST BEAUTIFUL
Stupid idiots! This song is about a dream. A strange dream. Boo to you negative cynics.
Try to keep in mind, this song is about people solving conflict through communication, and the joy that would come out of the miracle of the world no longer in conflict. It isn't meant to be anything more than wishful thinking. Is it really so bad to wish about a world were we no longer need to die for our causes and have no reason for war in the first place?
Otyugra Media no
....the room was filled with WOMEN and men. xozone
one of the dumbest songs ever.
all the men got together? You mean ISIS and north korea and russia would join? Just men?
They'd pray? Isn't religion the #1 source of conflict? Which religion will they all agree on?
Papers signed and copies were made? How many times have people agreed on the wording or honored a treaty?
People in the streets danced? People don't get along, it's not just the governments that disagree.
They should have stuck to their emo songs about sour relationships.
You know, I'm not going to go and point out specifically where each of your point's logic is flawed, unless you want me to. But for a summary, whether you believe this could even happen or not, they say at the beginning of the song, that this is, "the strangest dream, I ever dreamed before." So... still, don't try to apply too much logic to it
It's art not law, the real message is in the sentiment, not the exact wording
When I perform this song, I say "women and men" and it's in a minor key. I first heard this song on this album and it always stuck with me. Love it! Here's mine......https://soundcloud.com/nalinil/strangest-dream
hippie bullshit
You sad, sad man...
Go make America great again, that's if you're not too busy going to third base with your first cousin.
more bullshit
I was waiting for the punchline, where a disagreement in the street starts it all up again.
Then again, it's 2015. We live in a cynical era, and are more than aware of how stabby people can get.
The irony is if it wasn't for war they wouldn't of had the freedom to make this song...just saying...
You could start with WW2. If no one fought the axis powers, life would be very different.
@Andrew Cascio are you for real?
@Andrew Cascio 1938 Germany annexes Austria
1938 England and France hand over Sudetanland to germany to prevent war, Germany assures on the Munich treaty he won't invade Czechoslovakia. Chamberlain declares peace in our time.
1939 Germany breaks the treaty and invades the Czechs and they surrender
1939 Germany invades Poland, breaking a treaty which required France and England to declare war.
This is where you are confused, France and England made it clear what they would do if Germany invaded. Germany was the aggressor.
He had no intention of stopping at poland, he already had plans to invade england and france. He had the invasion of France already planned out and his troops and airforce were training for their attacks on england.
Germany wasn't stupid. They weren't just thinking up what to do on the moment. They had their war plans worked out years in advance.
If you think that germany would stop after poland, you are as naive as Chamberlain.
The way you are talking, it sounds like you think Germany was minding its own business, concerned with only their domestic issues, and suddenly, for no reason, they were attacked by england & france and had to defend themselves.
Andrew Cascio The original plan was to take all of East Europe, including some of Russia, and turn it into farmland. The people residing in those territories would be kicked out and killed. That plan was called the "Hunger Plan" to pull Germany out of its economic crisis. They didn't want to stop at Poland if they didn't have to. West Europe didn't concern Hitler until later in the war when Germany was more economically stable.
Never underestimate stupidity.
Simply great !
!st of many versions I've heard over the years. Still the yardstick I compare the others to.
Me Too.
