Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water Lyrics

When you're weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
Oh when times get rough
And friends just can't be found

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
Oh when darkness comes
And pain is all around

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on, silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

  9. bobbg

I remember the first time I heard this on a really really big show,
Wow did he bring some talent to our times and TV in the 60's
Lettermen was very lucky to use that studio. If the walls could only talk.
The only problem was trying to make bands chage some of the words for primetime TV.

  10. rik wall

So many beautiful parts. My favorite is at 3:50, when you have made so much progress, yet you slip and fall backwards, and Paul is there to lift you up knowing you need a friend, right at that moment🙂

  28. Wasatch Watchman

For all things a quiet and a cold, a hot and ring, for far away is our desire, we live the life of chain and only later do we change and see. It's youth we miss and freedom to move. Motion is of God, for how we move makes music. Money doesn't motivate this art, freedom and expression does. Money corrupted it. Sing a song about that boys.

What happened in February 26, 1970 exactly 2:07 pm? I missed a call from that date based on my call logs from my phone but I'm just 18 years old and I searched feb 26, 1970 and this song is only what I found. Can someone tell me what is happening? While I type this I listen to this song too and it's kinda creepy.

    1976 class PCHS chiefs.

  52. OperaNut 1756

How can anyone in their right mind give this a thumbs down??

@OperaNut 1736 It could be the fact that the video itself shows the wrong album cover as it is not on "Bookends" and is on its self-titled album.

  53. piero risso

  73. Adrian D'Costa

Every one of us need someone to hold onto someone when they are broke and when they are vulnerable. In my life, my parents and my brothers are that bridge holding me over that rebellious and troubled water. I am indebted to them forever. I can never repay that loan. This song is an infinite tribute to these great figures who hold us with tight grasp and with all their might over the troubled water.

  74. Doristhegreat2

Thank you you mum for bringing this song into my life and evoking so many memories , love you and the song ❤️ x

Another song dad sang to us kids growing up.
It's been 23 years ago he died around Thanksgiving, always hear this song in my dad's voice.

  77. Mark 433

Elvis did this song well. But, S & G just can't be beat.

    John Hunter

This is one of the most-covered songs ever. Elvis did it, Orbison did it, Aretha did it, Johnny Cash did it... but none of them compare to the majesty that is the original.

  78. helen s

dear comment section: we get it. it's a good song and you heard it at a funeral. you don't need to farm upvotes by saying it.

  79. Priscilla Mcclure

    Words for all!!

  80. Ben Brittan

This song will always hold a special place in my heart. I’ve had a particularly tough time with depression and loneliness this past year and this song has reminded me of the true supporters in my life. Thank you Mr. Simon for writing this masterpiece as well as Mr. Garfunkel for conveying it in such a compassionate way.

    @Jody Wilke
Jody, may you walk in peace this coming year. This past year I lost my live-in grandmother, had to put down a pitbull I rescued from abuse, had a stroke and as a result a portion of my brain is now dead. I have almost lost my company too, as result of the stroke. Several close friends of the family have passed on. Like you, it's been on and on...
But one thing has remained a constant for me. My faith that through it all my Lord was by my side and I trusted His plan. I dedicate to you the song,"In the Eye of the Storm." I am adding you to my New Year's Eve Watch Hour Prayer list. May you be blessed this coming year.

    Jody Wilke

@Chesbay Landscaping Thanks for the prayers--you really have haven't had an easy year, have you? We just need to keep on going, and trusting that the Lord has a plan. God Bless.😔💒

    Chesbay Landscaping

    @Jody Wilke YES!

    Audrey O'Donnell

Im trying to help a friend though depression do you have anything that helped you or that your friends did

    Chesbay Landscaping

    @Audrey O'Donnell
There isn't a simple solution. There are many things which cause depression. Basically, as a friend just being there, listening, and being a support for your friend. Get he(r) out. Do something together. Don't let them just lay around or become stagnant or comfortable with where they are. Get and keep them active. Do activities you know they enjoy. The fight against depression is a two way street though. Your friend has to want to fight it to.
Most of the time depression will pass in a short time. If it doesn't encourage your friend to seek medical help. Sometimes we who suffer with depression need medication for a short time to help us over the hump.
    Hope this helps.
    Happy New year

  81. Andy Shek

My dad had been fighting his brain abscess for about 2 months. I played this to him last night and he finally passed this morning peacefully. I hope he is happy in his afterlife with Jesus.

    Chesbay Landscaping

Standing by the side of a parent when they make their trip to see our Lord is certainly one of the hardest things we have to do in life. I was there 3 years ago with my Mom as she made her's. May the God who gives us peace bless you and keep you now and always. I'll be praying for you New Year's Eve, during 11pm Watch Hour Prayer. Be blessed!

Our brother Raymond passed in the early 70s, when this song played I would tell myself that it is Him singing it to me.And still do.. He played the Trumpet and Guitar. Today Google is just down the street from the last hospital I saw my brother in. When we were there it was a town today its a city. Great song and stayed top selling for years.Blessings to all of you.

    Potenza divina
    Nel mare di fuoco.
    Sono ali aperte
    Che fanno scudo
    All' idiozia del mondo.
    Io sono l' Uomo.
    Travestito di farsa,
    L'inganno e la menzogna.
    Sono virtu'
    Vestita di roccia.
    Potrei essere poesia
    E volare
    Al tuo cuore e dirti:

    Ti Amo.
