Simon & Garfunkel - Bookends Lyrics
Time it was
And what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence
A time of confidences
I have a photograph
Preserve your memories
They're all that's left you

Coming Home
Were they - S & G - shirtlifters then ? Just wondering .
First heard this when I was 24 and fresh from the infantry in nam. Now I am 77 and it means even more to me. Can't stop weeping sometimes.
is there anything more honest or real than that?
preserve your memories, they're all that's left you....
most hauntingly real song ever
This album came out years before I was born, but I so enjoy reading how one album generated so many memories for people. Music definitely unites people.
God why I like to hurt myself listening this beautiful song.....
they were wonderful together, I miss their music
This song has always been hard to listen to, ever since the first time. I'm probably much younger than the average s&g fan, but I still love them. Always have, always will. Although difficult, I've also learned to live with depression for some time now. People can relate. This song triggers me more than most things, but in a completely different way. Sadness, happiness, regret, love, fear, blissfulness. Music really is something..... isn't it? ❤️
I like this music, it makes me feel calm about this damn chaos in the world
Booom comentario en español en 2020. Maldita Summer
I listen to this song every New Years' eve, just before midnight. Couldn't think of a better way to end a year-- this time, a decade.
I have been trying to find this song for years but I did not know the name of it. I finally found it by looking up songs that had been on The Wonder Years!!!
Simon and Garfunkel seem to be music history's most underappreciated artists .The songs they wrote were very poetic and powerful
I couldn't bare the thought of acid dropping a set of four when I started but then surprised myself by being able to kickflip them 8/10 tries years later.
You don't know unless you stepped on a skateboard and spent some time on it. Heart-wrenching song. Rodney, spinning. Dad told him not to do but in his mind, he is grinning.
I love u
WOW,,,,,,,,, SO MUC H TRUTH,,,,,,,,
A few words. This is the lyrics of this song, only a few words. A few words within 4minutes. Thats all. This song perfectly describes our lives. A repeating 8 lines lyrics. Having that feeling even the lyrics are kind of `short`, but the song is longer than you think when you see how simple the lyrics is. Just life itself. You think its long at the beginning when you are young and suddenly you realize how short it is. Thats all we have. If we are lucky..80-85 years. Sounds like a long time period. But if you think this is 85 summers, winters, Christmases you might feel much shorter.
The first part is for the younger years and the second part is the older and last years. How simple it is. Four lines for early memories and four lines for older years.
Vengo por la película 500 días con ella like para no desaparecer
One of few songs that can possess every emotion I hold dear. It brings me to true peace and reflection. Thank You...
This song is my heart.
Also combined with the preceding Old Friends.
Garota interrompida 😞🇧🇷
interrompida e reiniciada...
Zo mooi !
This song has always taken me back to my elementary school years in the 70’s. I have a solid few friends from that time and beyond. Golden years. No smart phones back then. I’m forever grateful.
Cherish your friend’s. Make the effort even when they don’t. They maybe struggling or numb. Trust me, even if you’re in a funk, You’ll be better for it. There’s nothing like spending just a day with that person to really take you in a “time machine”.
Elongated version of the one minute fifty one second version.
Divine simplicity here. I can't begin to say how much this song moves me - one of the greatest ever composed, truly heartbreaking.
Remember my dad playing this when I was a little boy. I never even knew what the song was called, just heard it all the time. He's been dead for a while now. It was and still is a strangely somber experience listening to this after his death. The words all of the sudden make sense after 30 years of hearing them, but never really hearing them.
Same here....

Never listen to this after finding out somebody you once loved has passed away 😭 RIP AWG
Incredible . Short lyric but powerful
Hermoso.
I have watched 500 days of summer for 6th time yesterday.
This song was in the film when summer lost her feelings for tom.
The film shows perfectly how love begins and ends by the two characters and it reminded me of myself and my first gf when we were together.
And when this song started to play, tears started to drop.
I miss you Mommy and Daddy, I miss me too....see you sson
LISA ROWE ❤ SUSANA ❤
@Ro Esp you did so well with how you edited this, absolutely perfect and you are spoiling us because this song is far too short and this allows us to hear a good dose of it, thank you. xx
Many many years ago I was at a party and some knob job was playing his guitar and singing Simon and Garfunkel songs. All the girls sat around him and cooed. I heard him proclaim that he knew every song by Simon and Garfunkel song and could sing it. I said, play Bookends. Within seconds he was up and no where to be found.
I hope after years ago will be here agaaain
This is life here.

"- Hey Tom... Look, I know you think she was the one, but I don't. Now, I think you're just remembering the good stuff. Next time you look back, I, uh, I really think you should look again."

The Wonder Years. (Look it up)
Very melancholic

I still see their faces and hear their voices, just like it was yesterday.
I once had some nice novels that I prevented falling over with 2 bookends.
Why I am crying?
🙏🏽❤️
Beauty.
Simon and Garfunkel are so magical! Their music is so pure, genuine and beautiful ❤ Always make me cry...
I imagine the lyrics of this song will not be too dissimilar to the thoughts of many as they approach old age and death. When listening to them I feel as though I can imagine myself looking back at my life and what I have left from the years I spent here.
Important lesson: Be careful when throwing away old photos/cards/letters!
Heard this in Girl Interrupted and a PO5 episode (Julia gets married).
Very short song, yet it gives me goosebumps.
"Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you."
For me it's impossible to not cry while listening this song, this nostalgic melody and poetry.
I Think that the world become a bit more sadly place after a breakup. I swear to preserve the memories and confidences of my first girlfriend... they're that's left you 💔

Coming Home (1978) 1st I heard this song was from this film. RIP to all who died in the Vietnam War. Pointless war. We/I won’t forget the ones who served.
Summer, bitch.
I remember.
A innocent song me and my grandparents on a laid back Sunday morning in the 60's and 70's what a time it was a time of innocence.
Umas das melodias mais puras e singelas jamais ouvidas.
One of the saddest songs ever.
one of the saddest songs ever
Have you ever confused a dream with life?
Or stolen something when you have the cash?
Have you ever been blue?
Or saw your train moving while sitting still?
Maybe I was just crazy, maybe it was the 60s.
Or maybe I was just a girl, interrupted.
So beautiful movie lines :)
Wenn ich die ersten Klänge höre, sehe ich meine große Liebe vor mir.....leider lange vergangen
The wonder years take me here, cheers from Medellin Colombia
Been listening since I was 12 years old, I'm now 63...never gets old. #timeless
I always wished this song to have a bit more words.. But somehow within these few words, it has always helped me to stop the clock and go back to the time I was confident or rather one can say innocent.
Songs like this are always going to stir nostalgic memories when the reality of the 60's and 70's is that we were very divided as a country and perhaps this songs helped with the healing. I 72 in '68 I was 21 and today 2019 it is ironic that a song like this shows us how History repeats itself, however be careful because repetition of history does not guarantee the same result.
💖Old friends
Old friends
Sat on their park bench like bookends
A newspaper blowin' through the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes
Of the old friends
Old friends
Winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settle like dust
On the shoulders of the old friends
Can you imagine us years from today
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange to be seventy
Old friends
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fear
A time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence
A time of confidences
Long ago it must be
I have a photograph
Preserve your memories
They're all that's left you
As I inch towards 60, I cannot help but reflect on what was and what could have been...
why would you loop this?
I didn't have access to much music as a little kid. I had ABBA Greatest Hits, Eva Cassidy's Songbird, and that was pretty much it. My brothers only listened to classical music because they simply didn't know there was anything else. Then, an album showed up in a box with a bunch of others, a gift from my uncle. Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest Hits. I was 7. I put it on repeat, listening to it for countless hours. When i was 8, i fell asleep to it. When I was 9, it played loudly from my headphones on a yearly cross country trip. Every song was what I had been waiting to hear. I felt it. I laughed to it, I sang to it, i cried to it, I lived to it. I still listen to it. This song, especially, follows me through everything. I have a photograph. Preserve your memories. They're all that's left you.
the wonder years brought me here. ❤️
The title track of my favourite Simon and Garfunkel album.
j · Brown was a very good performer.
