Simon & Garfunkel - 7 O'Clock News / Silent Night Lyrics

This is the early evening edition of the news.
The recent fight in the House of Representatives was over the open housing
section of the Civil Rights Bill.
Brought traditional enemies together but it left the defenders of the
measure without the votes of their strongest supporters.
President Johnson originally proposed an outright ban covering discrimination
by everyone for every type of housing but it had no chance from the start
and everyone in Congress knew it.
A compromise was painfully worked out in the House Judiciary Committee.
In Los Angeles today comedian Lenny Bruce died of what was believed to be an
overdoes of narcotics.
Bruce was 42 years old.
Dr. Martin Luther King says he does not intend to cancel plans for an open
housing march Sunday into the Chicago suburb of Cicero.
Cook County Sheriff Richard Ogleby asked King to call off the march and the
police in Cicero said they would ask the National Guard to be called out
if it is held.
King, now in Atlanta, Georgia, plans to return to Chicago Tuesday.
In Chicago Richard Speck, accused murderer of nine student nurses, was brought
before a grand jury today for indictment.
The nurses were found stabbed an strangled in their Chicago apartment.
In Washington the atmosphere was tense today as a special subcommittee of the
House Committee on Un-American activities continued its probe into anti-
Viet nam war protests.
Demonstrators were forcibly evicted from the hearings when they began chanting
anti-war slogans.
Former Vice-President Richard Nixon says that unless there is a substantial
increase in the present war effort in Viet nam, the U.S. should look forward
to five more years of war.
In a speech before the Convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in New York,
Nixon also said opposition to the war in this country is the greatest single
weapon working against the U.S.
That's the 7 o'clock edition of the news,
Goodnight.

Silent night
Holy night
All is calm
All is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.

Simon & Garfunkel 7 O'Clock News / Silent Night Comments
  1. P.... M....

I listen to this every Christmas since the first time I heard it. Very somber tune but as I heard it said once before, "Sometimes the most beautiful things are kind of melancholy." I love Simon and Garfunkel. They are staples in American music.

  2. D.... I....

One of the ways you can detect the leftist bias in the news part is the way he emphasizes the word "AGAINST" in Nixon's speech about war protesters working against the U.S. as a signal that this is the opposite of what you should believe since the war protesters to him and to you are obviously working FOR U.S. interests in promoting a communist takeover in Vietnam because that is what you should want since America and its capitalist allies are all corrupt and the communists obviously just want to fix that. Actually, the one thing working AGAINST the U.S. was TREASON by Johnson & McNamara in refusing to INVADE and finish North Vietnam just like TRAITOR Truman refused to let MacArthur finish NK and discredit Mao. If you don't think so, then you are traitorous communist scum too. The only purpose of communism is redistribution of wealth to the redistributors. Communist idealists have to hire murderous thugs (e.g. Stalin, Sverdlov, Mao) because some people just insist on keeping their stuff. Those thugs, who have the guns, then get rid of capitalists and communist idealists (e.g. Trotsky, Lin Biao) alike to steal everything they can for their own luxury and use (avoiding direct personal ownership). The "right people" never get to do communism because they always inevitably end up dead too.

This is the early evening edition of the news.

In Washington, the standoff between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell over the passed articles of impeachment against President Trump shows no signs of thawing. Pelosi has said that she will not send the articles to the Senate for an impeachment trial until she receives assurances that specific witnesses will be called.

In Los Angeles, ESPN college football reporter Ed Aschoff died on his birthday of pneumonia. He was 34.

In New York, presidential candidate and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that his campaign has severed ties with a third-party vendor that used call centers operated out of state prisons to phonebank on the billionaire's behalf.

In Texas, a 19-year-old man confessed to police that he killed his 23-year-old pregnant sister "because of family conflict," Police reports said that the perpetrator said the victim was "an embarrassment to her family and he stated it would be better off but she wasn't here."

In Korea the atmosphere is tense as North Korean officials warn of a "Christmas gift" to the U.S. if their ultimatum on a denuclearization deal isn't met. Experts believe that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un plans to abandon diplomacy and denuclearization talks and possibly end an 18-month moratorium on ballistic missile tests.

In Australia, firefighters are failing to contain bushfires that have consumed 5 million hectares of land across the country. The spread of the fires has been attributed to record low rainfall and record temperatures exacerbated by climate change, though Prime Minister Scott Morrison has refused to curb carbon emissions or offer federal aid to firefighters in the wake of the disaster.

That's the 7 O'Clock edition of the news, goodnight.

    Pamatuji.

  11. C.... P....

As a kid did you ever wake up in the middle of night screaming for mom, wanting to die, asking your parents, "why did you make me this way?" This song is comforting to me, despite the fact, Paul Simon couldn't put on a good live show to save his life! Merry Christmas and God bless.

  12. S.... P....

It's a Christmas song with news, I guess.

    S.... P....

It was done in protest of the Vietnam War

    S.... P....

It's the contrast, O child of the idiocracy; the contrast of the peaceful beauty of the song against the nightmare reality of what should not be.
