Silverchair - Reflections Of A Sound Lyrics

In the sun we are found to be
Reflections of a sound

I know it's been far too long in stormy weather
My arrested hope won't choke forever
Like a memory I needed never

We walk wrapped in thought
Some are vacant some have grown too short
It's the only thing I've ever had that keeps me lonely

In the sun we are found to be
Reflections of a sound
When nobody is around

Come down from the waist of time
Feel so empty when I feel so fine
Starting over we could change this light shadow sober

I've been waiting for far too long
Let's stick together
Coz you're keeping me warm but it's a lonely setting sun

I wait so long now my head is full of pressure
I need time to cure my mind
It's like a loop that lasts forever

I've been waiting for far too long
Let's stick together
Coz you're keeping me warm but it's a lonely setting sun

In the sun we are found to be
Reflections of a sound
For nobody

  9. .... /....

This isn't Silverchair, this is shit

  10. W.... ....

    I miss them sooooo much!

  11. s.... ....

I'm kind of glad they broke up after this album I mean it wasn't that bad of an album but still it wasn't silverchair at the end of the day, I have respect for the lead singer for actually going on and doing his own solo project instead of killing the band that he help created from the ground up that was legendary with there rock grungy sound also staying true to his classic fans and not killing the band's reputation unlike some other band that sold out I know all get old we all change after while but I believe you're going to stay consistent what's your musical projects it just looks pretty fucking stupid when you change it up out of nowhere just try to sell records and get radio airplay also I believe you're starting fan base that built carrier from beginning is what counts not a bunch of radio hit fans that never stay true to the band even after the fame is gone

  12. A.... J....

    This is art

  13. R.... F....

    Ruim pra caralho

  14. R.... ....

Sigh... Ok Silverchair. Do what you love to do. Even if you lose tons of the people who came to love the band you used to be. Like me. I am a musician/artist who idolized you guys in the 90's and you helped me develop my style so I will always be thankful and support you as artists expressing yourselves. People change and you must be being honest in how you express it. I wish you the best but this is not my taste anymore. If you ever get pissed enough to write another badass album, I'll be back.

  15. J.... a....

Não chega perto mas tá de bom tamanho!

  16. A.... ....

I liked this song so much more than Straight Lines

  17. t.... ....

Genious, Johns - Gilles and Johanou! After pop song- artistic! Great ! ❤🎸🎶🎵🎤🎼 Love this music!

  18. S.... O....

This is my first and last time listening to this album. Yikes.

  19. E.... C....

Ótima música, me lembra David Bowie!

  20. R.... D....

The first silverchair song I ever heard was straight lines. I loved that song, but I've recently discovered all their previous work. After hearing all the other stuff I was anticipating what this album would be like, you know, because I liked straight lines. But I just don't like this album. I can see that silverchair did evolve over time, but I still think neon ballroom and diorama are far better than this.

  21. L.... B....

does anyone think they broke up because Daniel wanted to explore and they didn't? or maybe he became a control freak.

  22. D.... ....

Good job guys for taking this huge risk but come on you are no the Beatles, video is great, Daniel is a great composer, the fact is that I think this wasn't the right moment. Change was too big.

  23. M.... F....

"I've been waiting for far too long
    Let's stick together
    Coz you're keeping me warm
But it's a lonely setting sun..."

  24. M.... F....

am i the only one getting a Beatles vibe from this single? i really like it a lot.

    M.... F....

My Dad was a huge Beatles fan and we found common ground in our love for Silverchair. You're not alone!

  25. U.... p....

    Bizarre. Boring. Trash. Hated it!
This is not the real Silverchair. It's ridiculous!

  26. j.... v....

    beatles much,

  27. I.... A....

Parese un chiste esto no es silverchair

    I.... A....

Devuelvete al frogstomp, no hay drama

  28. c.... m....

i wish they continued on the path of awsomness

  29. R.... A....

how come i just listen to this album now?! and its great!! i love young modern album! where are they now?if anyone know the history..please share..i really love to hear.. :)

    R.... A....

It's k at least u love their songs in young modern album. History u can search in Google ☺... Every albums may sound different but.. I hope u like 😊 ... N i love their music Since 1995...welcome to silverchair world 😎

  30. T.... O....

Ok, I'm not saying this tune is bad, its fine for me... but, this isn't Silverchair anymore, yes it's perfect for "The Dissociatives" but not for Silverchair... unfortunately they have lost their original sound
    ... just my thought

  31. K.... ....

Selling out? They are playing far more skilled and complex compositions than before. If you compare the skill on this album and Freak Show it's like day and night.

    K.... ....

Diorama was an inconsitent album, imho. A bit experimental. It has some of Silverchair best songs ever, but also some really boring ones.

    K.... ....

+Kafkandinsky Agree completely. Across the Night might be their best song, but this album just comes together in a different way. I really think they took all their best parts from the past and put that into this album. The part in this song that ends with "but it's a lonely setting sun" is one of the most perfectly written lead ins to a chorus I've ever heard.

    K.... ....

Daniel Johns no longer cares to release his music to America, selling out would be only focused on the US market and international, rather than just Australia

  32. S.... H....

I know a lot of people hate on YM and yeah it is so much different than their first couple of albums but I honestly like anything Dan has put out. Straight Lines is one of my favorite songs. But I really like Freak Show too. It has a special place in my heart and the first album that made me a fan to this day. To each their own I guess, but hopefully one day they will record some new material.

  33. t.... ....

disappointing Silverchair dropped off after Neon Ballroom. i could never bring myself to like Diorama and never bought this follow up. such a shame. i wish them well in their future music endeavors though, as we all have musically grow one day.

  34. s.... ....

I miss Dan and the guys. We need another album.

    s.... ....

Dan officially called off the band in 2011 :(.... Ben had a band called Bento for a bit, but now is involved with Reality TV with his wife, Jackie. He was hands down the best thing on "The new look of La Mascara" here on Youtube.

Dan recently came out with a solo Album, but it doesn't even look or sound like him... At all. Like a buff, tattooed Justin Timberlake...

    s.... ....

why do some people think that his solo album is actually great? they bash the hardcore fans who say that diorama or neon ballroom is far superior to the solo album "talk". i mean i can understand if they find some of the beats catchy or have that night club vibe but it's nowhere near a masterpiece like come on.

i've read the rolling stone article and vogue australia interview about his whole deal with leaving silverchair and all that, and it's very sad to see an exceptionally talented musician turn his back on what makes him exceptional and choose to create an entirely different music, one that does not resemble his old one in any form, not lyrically or even vocally.

kind of very depressing for silverchair fans

    s.... ....

@Maggy Frog "one that does not resemble his old one in any form, not lyrically or even vocally."

You really need to watch this then:
    https://youtu.be/NZ-pLfTZjSY

    which later became this:
    https://youtu.be/trraz2SRmYQ

Dan's always stayed true to himself--he just outgrew the sounds a rock band could make for him. I'm not saying that what he's done in between albums or after 'chair was better, only different. I personally love it all. <333

  35. S.... ....

I admit when I first heard Young Modern I was like "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO SILVERCHAIR?" but wow, I ate all my words and now loving Young Modern. It grows in you if you just listen and stop judging their music because to be honest, this is what music really means. Peace out.

    S.... ....

Skull0606 I agree. It’s brilliant. As the years go by the more I can hear the genius in this album.

  36. b.... c....

Negative reviews below means perfect creation of art above

    b.... c....

Like Suergrass and the slower stuff from Sidewinder.
Beatles Centric. Great but an easy win.

  37. k.... c....

This song makes me relax..... great job

  38. L.... p....

There's also a song from Oasis which made people ask me sth like: " oh, is that from Silverchair? The song I'm talking about is called Magic Pie from the Be Here Now album and this video which I've just watched from Silverchair on here reminds me of All Around The World from Oasis....quite

    L.... p....

I've read both your comments about Oasis but I'm sorry, if you think "All Around The World" sounds like this song or Silverchair in general then you need to change your perspective, they sound nothing alike at all. I have never liked Oasis because all I hear from them is the fact they are just Beatles copy cats. So many of their songs try to imitate the Beatle's Psychedellic sound. Especially trying to imitate the songs and singing of John Lennon, even the look with the hair and glasses. Even the video for AATW is just a Yellow Submarine copycat going for the physchedellic look. They used to be called "The Rain" which is from a Beatles song called "Rain". Another song from Oasis that has heavy influence from The Bealtes is "Falling Down", which sounds structurally exactly like The Bealtes "Tomorrow Never Knows" with the same repeated drum pattern. It is just one of many songs that fool their fans in thinking it's original and Oasis like when it's not. Don't tell me it's just them paying homage to The Beatles because it's not, they're just ripping off their sound and making a profit from people who have no idea.

What I'm getting at is you shouldn't be rating Oasis so highly, they're not that great. I don't even think they're better than Silverchair even though Oasis is more well known. Because they have nothing that even comes close to Diorama musically. I know Daniel Johns is also influenced by The Beatles, especially their progression in music and the album Pet Sounds by Brian Wilson. Maybe that is why you can hear similarities with Oasis. The influence of Brian Wilson and The Beatles was already apparent in Neon Ballroom but even moreso in Diorama and Young Modern. Not to say Young Modern is their best album but seriously do not confuse the song writing to be influenced by a imitation band like Oasis because that is just showing your lack of understanding.

  39. L.... p....

When I watched this video I felt as though Iwas watchin' All Around The World from Oasis ( The band which made me cease listenin' to Silverchair), and that's quite ironic, but I love Silverchair's old style, however this one's far better in my opinion

    L.... p....

Me too, I miss the old style of silverchair

  40. L.... p....

I used to listen to Silverchair's songs 'till I was introduced to an Oasis gig called familiar to millions, in 2001. Since then I became an Oasis, but i ceased listening to Silverchair, but I really miss that time so much, however, when I watched this video

  41. A.... A....

    R.I.P Silverchair.

  42. C.... A....

    new album please!

  43. R.... D....

Okay I always loved their sound and will always love their sound. It changed so what? Come back Silverchair, please.

  44. T.... t....

To all you people who claim "This is growing up," it's not growing up, it's selling out. There's a difference. Diorama was great, so what happened in the 5 years between then and this shit?

    T.... t....

there's a cup of tea for everyone... if you can't find it in this album find it elsewhere but don't blame it on the musicians. I call it respect, and it seems also like a grown up thing to do that is called responsibility... yours is not to blame them, but to go find your thing else where as it has already been established you don't like it... also, not liking something does not mean it's "shit", so show some respect for yourself... *and this comment does not go for someone in particular, only to those who will in this situation

    T.... t....

    @Lauro Castro
No, being generic awful music that sounds more like it's Coldplay more than Silverchair is what makes it shit. We can blame it on the musicians when we expect a certain quality from them and they decide to change their style to something completely different. Don't tells us the opinions we are and aren't entitled to have.

    T.... t....

ah!! when I thought you would never get it... you actually do!! so... an opinion is "I think this..." and a definition is "this is this..." I'm sure you get the difference, for you're not a monkey (are you?). oh, and btw... I would never dare to tell you what to do or what not to do, unlike you (I quote "don't tell us" - I can tell you whatever I want, you've just made that point). and yes... my opinion is that I find it stupid you would have such a narrow minded opinion on music, but not my problem to deal with...
anyway you can take it from here I'm not going to argue anymore. you have your opinion, I have a different one and YOU have just made it clear that WE ARE ALL entitled to have different ones. I will respect yours, respect mine and leave it at that... have a good one! ;)

    T.... t....

How exactly do you define 'selling out'. I would think that means compromising your music purely for commercial success. In my opinion songs like 'The Greatest View' and 'Without You' were much more pop/radio hits than anything on Young Modern (apart from maybe Straight Lines)

    T.... t....

I cannot understand why you'd dislike this so much if you liked Diorama. For fuck's sake. Go back, and listen to Diorama again. Across The Night, The Greatest View, After All These Years, et cetera. It was obvious back then that this is where they were headed. I mean Young Modern was not remotely surprising. The first time I heard it I remember thinking to myself "Yea, this is a logical next step from Diorama, it makes sense." So the half-way "sold out" sound of Diorama was good in your ears, but the full blown "sold out" of Young Modern sounds bad to you? That makes zero sense, and it makes it seem like you're just being a snob, applying your own little purity test to someone elses music. I mean what is sold out? Is the act of changing one's sound in order to reach a wider fan base selling out even if they retain artistic control? Don't be absurd. You don't like the album, and that's fine, but don't insult the band just because they made something you don't like.

  45. k.... ....

Oh what is this crap?!  This sounds nothing like the old Silverchair which was much heavier and grungy like Pearl Jam.  This is like some Brit Pop.

    k.... ....

its called growing up and finding their own sound, they wrote frogstomp when they were 15 i think young modern was a great album

    k.... ....

    Agreed!
    This is boring and crap!
I was expecting some, at least, ROCK... Not this shit....

    k.... ....

I'd just like to say they never sounded anything like pearl jam lol their early stuff was heavier kinda like AIC or Soundgarden but def not Pearl Jam and whoever considered Pearl Jam a hard rock band needs to have their head examined...alice and Soundgarden were hard rock bands of that era...PJ was not, and fuck Nirvana...Nirvana has always been overrated...I mean WAY OVERRATED!!

  46. D.... M....

    Awesome music, video!

  47. C.... T....

eu amo o silverchair mais eu nao curti esse album, eu quero o som de antes rs !!
    musicas melancolicas.

    C.... T....

Concordo com você kkkkkkk ao estilo ana song , Emotion sicknes neh kkk

  48. S.... C....

This is NOT from the album Diorama. It is from the album Young Modern.

    S.... C....

    Yes MAN

  49. j.... p....

what happens in 90's stays in 90's

    j.... p....

    joshua palacio apparently

  50. J.... T....

Ugh...I hate it when bands change their style. If you're going to change your sound, change the band name!

  51. C.... T....

    I totally agree.

  52. M.... R....

What a weird fan base! Well like it or not you all dig the same artist! And if you dig their earlier sounds or their later ones, they still got ya to listen! Got a whole bunch of respect for them and their music

  53. D.... ....

Silverchair used to be so good. I realize DJ wanted to get away from being compared to other bands but this is garbage to my ears. I'll always love silverchair, but I can't support something I hate, sorry if that offends all the new fans, but I've been with em since '95. I just can't go from listening to leave me out or slave to this and accept its the same damn band. They should have changed the name, because true silverchair died in the year 2000.

  54. T.... B....

Everything changes. Nothing stays forever. I'm still a big fan and will allways be. Everybody gets old. I know I am, from a high school drug addict to a nephrology doctor . It's all good ;) cheers!

  55. j.... a....

this band wake my mind to learn and how to play guitar,,,, infact, i put his name to my new born baby,,,

  56. p.... ....

Like I said in another video, to suffer from anorexia, reactive arthritis and to be in the music industry since you were just a kid and then after all that to have your fans turn their backs on you because you're actually happy for once experimenting with new sounds must really suck.

    p.... ....

Awww poor Daniel...if ya can't handle it, dont put yourself out there...its like when Kurt Cobain said "I never wanted to be famous" lol so why the he'll would you play in a band...you can still write, and express yourself without trying to get famous...these guys are attention whores don't let em fool ya!!

  57. g.... ....

They are diferent and i dont like the change so will not buy something i dont like but sayng they are bad and all this bullshit is childish

  58. A.... ....

I like it! And the video is just plain fun ;).

  59. s.... ....

I just wish daniel johns would cut the bullshit and just say what he means

  60. B.... ....

Probably the only track on Young Modern I like. Of course I much prefer the older stuff, but this is still a great song.

  61. k.... ....

i liked the older silverchair..... this is vastly diferent but since it has some vintage soundi like too XD, just too diferent just to great but not the same.

  62. D.... L....

They great! i´m still waiting for their next album!

  63. D.... W....

he makes a sexy mona lisa

  64. m.... v....

This sounds so classic! Very oldie kinda song. Love it.

  65. m.... v....

At first i thought it's "In the sun we are found to be, reflections of a sound
    for nobody is ROUND"

  66. C.... S....

I want his long hair again!!!!

  67. M.... D....

Understated, misappropriated genius...i'd love to write with this bloke. ;)

  68. m.... ....

    :) :) :D

  69. E.... F....

    sounds like beatles

  70. h.... ....

I thought this video was so weird at first lol. But I realize now that it's all probably just a metaphor for something. Daniel is brilliant. And I really, really love this song. It's both calming and upbeat. If music is going to change, I would love to see this type of music at the forefront...instead of Lady Haha.

  71. h.... ....

@yosuinside I hope so too! He is brilliant. Unfortunately, a lot of people aren't truly recognized until their death. But even if it takes a long time, I hope that many more people begin to realize how amazing his work is.

  72. h.... ....

@j7609 I completely agree with you. This band is amazing either way. I love all of their "sounds" :)

  73. R.... v....

    weird clip. Great song though

  74. O.... ....

I think it's a beautiful thing that Silverchair changed over the years and tried out everything they wanted - it's just not my taste in music anymore, but who knows maybe their next album is totally different again and I luv to listen to it again.
I will never say that Silverchair is shit nowadays, that's just wrong - their music is just different. period!

  75. p.... ....

not quite my style, but i gotta admit that this is far better than i expected. Daniel Johns will always be a pure genious in my opinion

  76. O.... D....

@yosuinside Going in a Paul McCartney direction? I sense McCartney influence...

  77. w.... ....

life is all about change, it's the essence, this is why I love Silverchair so much; of course some things stay there and never change I still see them, it's unique.

  78. e.... ....

I will always love and respect this band for their years of beautiful, inspirational, 'top of the line' music. Although, I am not a fan of their post diorama sound. It resignates something like a modest mouse indie...thing. I understand the creative aspect of switching things up. I guess I'm not sold on this sound, I don't think it's suiting for the band. Regardless, if they keep it or ditch it, I'll always have my old Silverchair Albums. It's hard to make another Diorama, I know.

  79. J.... F....

mudou muito mais ainda e genial :D

  80. G.... L....

@GabGrunge Do you know the Daniel's history? it sucks, dude. was hard to him.

  81. D.... P....

    very beatlesy sgt pepperish lol

  82. z.... ....

@zerofurybones seriously, why do so many people love nirvana, there is no talent in the lyrics the instruments and the vocals..

  83. B.... V....

    @zerofurybones amen!....overateD!

  84. z.... ....

@rachaSka i am glad nirvana isnt around, they sucked anyway

  85. B.... V....

@zerofurybones nope...they evolved....or do you think nirvana would have sounded the same if they still were playing???

  86. z.... ....

    god they are pussies now

  87. J.... J....

Love this song... genius at work.. dont let their stuff pass you by.. sit back and listen...

  88. C.... M....

Its such inspiration for me to see Silverchair evolution!
They sound with the wisdom and with simbolic meanings of the human psyche.
I love the old and the new silverchair as one, cause its nothing more then the evolution of one thing. =)

  89. W.... ....

    @vendavalar I couldn't agree more...

  90. M.... U....

Weird.. Such a change of a band, it's hard to understand that it's the same people and stuff.. But something still connects with me, the voice, the feeling, the music? I don't know..

  91. J.... B....

i love ben's little pose in the first chorus!

  92. J.... C....

    adoro eles
