Silver Jews - Party Barge Lyrics

Father drove a steamroller
Momma was a crossing guard
She got rolled when he got steamed
And I got left in charge
Living in a little town with my pedigree in charge
I chopped down a weakened willow tree
And built this party barge

Ports of call, dayglo bait
Why not see a legend while it's still being made?
Think it's kind of squirrelly when you're sleeping in the park
Jam too far propagating in the night
My colleagues and associates have kicked out all the lights
Like I said they say, nothing stops a party barge

"This is lake directory, calling party barge
I'm on the phone with pump control, they say you are at large
Send us your coordinates, we'll send a Saint Bernard"
Think it's kind of squirrelly when you're sleeping in the park
Chicken fried pigeon in a sunny Jane sauce
Satan's jeweled laughter has your wife in its claws
Like I said they say, nothing stops a party barge

"Send us your coordinates, I'll send a Saint Bernard
Send us your coordinates, I'll send a Saint Bernard
Send us your coordinates, I'll send a Saint Bernard
This is lake directory, calling party barge"

Here's to the better times. Cassie's vocal recalls the Clash's "Spanish Bombs".

Love you spaceunicorn. Obviously Berman is channeling his god-ness with this song and album. It's not safe to make people feel this good with your tune-age. Love the barge horn.

The most underrated Silver Jews album? I tend to think so, there are barely any songs I wouldn't consider fantastic on this album. My friend still randomly says 'Nothin' stops a party barge' when he gets drunk. And he's not even a massive Silver Jews fan. If that's not powerful, I don't know what is

This song is complete genius. I was trying to familiarize myself with this album by reading an allmusic review, which described this song as one that would be found goofy and off-putting by SJ fans. So, I guess I disagree with the reviewer.-The implementation of Cassie's singing and the distortion on her vocals, perfectly complements the idiosyncrasies of DB's lyrics. Rarely (in the post-aughts) does a alternative rock song viscerally create an aura of excitement in the listener like this song does.

So weird, and yet so vaguely normal. It's nice to see that the sixties aren't quite dead.
