Silent Planet - The Anatomy Of Time (Babel) Lyrics

Certain was the fear trembling in your father's chest - encountering the ancients in a graveyard for those who never rest. Even the wind lay still, as time revealed the fools we are.

Quiet monoliths appear, suspended in the air. Solemn in their countenance, impervious to fear. Marveling at the symmetry that binds and brings us here - separating threads of space, distinctions disappear.

Take all of your answers - throw them in the flames. I'll keep the questions, I'll take the rain. Defend all your doctrines - those lies you had sworn. I'll wander through the night, I'll sleep in the storm.

I'll follow you to the end. I'll weather the world. I'll sleep in the storm. I'll follow you to the end where time has no beginning.

I pulled the past apart - futures unraveled with its plans. To my chagrin the answers felt hollow in my hands. Adorned with memories that form the tapestry of life. Collective accounts of consciousness from virtue to vice. Where are you now? My voice echoed in that canyon. I turned to find you lynched, choking with abandon. The scope of time, at first profuse, now twisted to the shape of a noose. We wanted see forever, but instead we saw the truth.

Species of the nightmare, people of the dream: language is your prison, but also the key. Confront the heart of fear behold the shape of destiny.

Spinning in the circles, waltz with the sun. There's no time, many turn to one.

Blinded by the shadow of what we've seen - empty in our depths of understanding. Burdened with the weight of paradox, I fear we have been sentenced to be free.

Vocals being extremely upfront probably is necessary to reach a larger audience with their lyrics, something this band clearly cares about. I love the for metalcore-standards quite complex guitar work, but instead of being all in your face about it this aspect wanders to the background, giving the poetry a great underlying harmonic-melodic foundation, giving again people that just are not into dat riffing - and those are pretty many - something easier to hold on to within the song
The atmospheric layers are just beautiful, I honestly don't see where they don't blend well together, but that could be a matter of taste.
The vocals sometimes sounding over range comes probably from the spoken word aspect they have. See, metalcore shouts usually consist of a pretty clean, loud transient (necessary to recognize the syllable) and then the vocal fry making the screaming sound, when you combine this with a larger focus on the "spoken" word - and the spoken word genre - and the emotionality - crying makes your voice go higher, you'll end up in the upper registers of the voice.
The bass is I think pretty much there to fatten up the guitars. What I recall from an interview with the band about this album the bassists main focus of practice up to this record and artistically on the record were his cleans anyway, so I'm okay with a low bass record from these guys.
With drums I'm still not sure, they sound like a mix of natural and highly produced, maybe this combination let's detailing in Alexs playing vaish a bit, but I'd rather have ghost notes vanish to the point they are just thiccening up room sound than having everything compressed down to hear every hit, but no dynamics.

Also with judging this mix one has to keep in mind that this is the first record with the intention of sounding like a four piece band and thus the writing of layers and the overall approach to production has to shift, so not everything will be perfect on the first go.

tl;dr - I like the album, I like the mix, those guys probably know what they are doing

They went with a less technical route on the music here on purpose. The mixing is supposed to sound as much as they are live without out right being live. This album definitely sounds different from their other albums but I think thats the intent here. Less production, a more truer sound.

I will have to say that I just recently discovered these guys. Their talent is there but i kept thinking the exact same thing as you mentioned. I kept thinking "these tracks are awesome but if they were produced differently they would sound a lot better. Too many pieces fighting for the same frequencies and you can hear them fighting because things will sort of randomly sound muddy or certain parts will change in volume rapidly. It also sounds "too compressed" to me. I kept searching through their tracks and more of Solid State's bands in general to see if it was a SS thing, but it seems like it's more of a band thing.

I'll make a bold statement without mentioning other bands. If these guys made any more albums with this same talent, thought, creativity but had a better sounding studio production they would be huge huge.

    D.... P....

these drums are fucking stellar get out of here

This whole album was such a masterpiece I loved this album through and through. I have found myself listening to this on repeat and I'm glad I am
