Siffre, Labi - It Must Be Love Lyrics

I never thought I'd miss you half as much as I do
And I never thought I'd feel this way the way I feel about you
As soon as I wake up, any night, any day
I know that it's you I need to take the blues away

It must be love, love, love
It must be love, love, love
Nothing more nothing less love is the best

How can it be that we can say so much without words
Bless you and bless me baby, bless the bees and the birds
I've got to be near you, every night, every day
I couldn't be happy baby any other way

It must be love, love, love
It must be love, love, love
Nothing more nothing less love is the best

As soon as I wake up, every night, every day
I know that it's you I need to take the blues away

It must be love, love, love
It must be love, love, love
Nothing more nothing less love is the best

It must be love, love, love
It must be love, love, love
Nothing more nothing less love is the best

  1. H.... T....

    the one and only version

  2. J.... A....

    Just great.

  3. r.... s....

This version is cute as hell ♥️
    Siffre is so cute too💘

  4. M.... R....

A great song to listen to at night in bed. It takes you to another space.

  5. B.... J....

Wow! What a revelation! My eyes are opened!

  6. G.... W....

Fond memories of my first girlfriend, Lesley Hanson. Wow. 47 years ago.

  7. j.... g....

he looks a bit like John Legend

  8. D.... C....

I too - after three and a half decades - have just discovered Madness COVERED rather than wrote this song. WTF! To be fair, they absolutely made it their own with the fantastic ska groove - the bassline alone is priceless. Siffre's version is nice, too, and has a groove of its own.

  9. M.... R....

Apparently Sugs had guitar lessons before he decided to be the lead singer. This was the first song he learned on guitar. (So the radio told me today)

  10. A.... .....

I thought Madness was the original... this is why I have trust issues 🤯😂😂

  11. M.... S....

This is much better than the Madness cover... nice guitar melody and a wonderful voice. However, the Madness version is brilliant!! Each version (this original and the Madness cover) were both ideal for there era.

  12. m.... ....

    This is just Madness

  13. S.... Y....

Great stuff.. And kudos to Madness for making it their own ✌️

  14. S.... Y....

Great stuff.. And kudos to Madness for making it their own ✌️

  15. p.... c....

is it sad that a nappy brand took this song? #huggies dry nights ftw
    Great song and great singer.
One of my all time favourites.

  16. M.... ....

Wow can’t believe the Madness version is a cover!!!!!!! I prefer the Madness version but thank you Labre, as you clearly are the reason for it!!!!

  17. D.... D....

I don't really know much about this dude, but keep stumbling into his vids, firstly by Eminem's inspiration and now Madness. Seems like he had a truly brilliant musical mind.

  18. w.... h....

I remember this from the day it was made popular, was at the time my favorite tune, He went on to make some other memorial songs, It must be love , something inside so strong ect

  19. S.... H....

I love the original version so much more, and I could watch this over and over because he was so damn cute.

  20. C.... M....

What a delightful song. I had no idea that Madness was doing a cover.

    C.... M....

If you watch the madness video, Labi appears in it playing violin...

    C.... M....

@Gus H thank you for sharing that 👍

  21. S.... P....

This is the very first single I ever bought. Also with Elton Johns Daniel. 2 very beautiful songs 14yrs old 1972 I danced away to this every night xx

  22. E.... D....

Best & original version of this beautiful song

  23. S.... H....

In my opinion this song is better than the version of Madness, have something special...

  24. A.... B....

and you do know that Labi had chas and dave backing him on one of his magic songs - when chas and dave were full of soul/funk

    A.... B....

And they feature on the sample which was later used by Eminem for My Name Is...

    A.... B....

@Bobby Banana The lord moves in mysterious ways

  25. J.... 1....

His voice is amazing but If I like this version I feel like I’m betraying madness and my favourite teacher in my school who I sing this song everyday with jeez! Like if u can relate

  26. B.... C....

An timeless song from the genius that is Labi Siffre who's music was also sample for the hit My Name Is  by American rapper Eminemfrom his second album The Slim Shady LP (1999). The song samples Labi Siffre's 1975 track "I Got

  27. m.... ....

This is such a sweet song, I love it very much.

  28. P.... H....

Saw him live in early 70s,great then, great now.

  29. D.... B....

I did know that the Madness version was a cover as it was very rare that they didn't write their own songs. A great choice.

  30. k.... ....

I sort of prefer this one

  31. A.... N....

Blacks steal everything that ain't nailed down. Madness must be screwing with this ripoff

    A.... N....

It's the original version...TEN YEARS before the Madness version you racist. I think you will also find Madness' early output appropriated JAMAICAN ska. Get back into your hole

    A.... N....

    Look at the date

  32. A.... M....

How amazing must it feel to write a song as good as this?!

  33. L.... ....

I still think madnesses version is better but this is good.

  34. T.... ....

This and "Hanging on the Telephone" by Blondie... Two songs it took me a long while to learn were covers

  35. G.... ....

    Love this

  36. D.... S....

I knew it was a cover ( Madness ) but for the life of me could not remember the original. Brilliant ! Now I do.  BTW was always a good 'un. Thanks Google.

  37. I.... A....

Yeah! The real deal! Madness version sucks!

  38. p.... ....

I knew Madness had covered it at the time, just didn’t know by whom. Now i know.

  39. L.... ....

    This is the original.

  40. A.... L....

Fantastic. I always thought this was a "Madness" song, well now I know the truth.

    A.... L....

    Alan Lee me too

  41. r.... ....

you know you are old if you remember this version as the original! I loved the Madness cover as well, when it came out.

  42. A.... S....

just heard it on a commercial for reeds within a couple of seconds I knew the words again remembered the singer (labi) and I was back in the 70s

  43. R.... B....

Why didn't the saxophonist do a backflip into the pool where Labi was playing the solo underwater?

  44. T.... d....

    The record is better
    I bought it
    stereo on my good deck
    great clarity .

  45. R.... M....

I love the original and the remake!

  46. C.... ....

    Love the ukelele sound!
(made me think of Ram On by Paul McCartney)

  47. c.... ....

    Lovely voice.

  48. D.... F....

if Labi Siffre would write this song today, he should have called the titel of this song; there is no love, love, love. well, in my opinion.

  49. s.... ....

does anyone know what tuning he is using?

    s.... ....

soundsean it's just standard tuning, it seems like he's using a different tuning because of the open strings he plays at the beginning, but he's just strumming the top four strings then adding a finger on 2nd fret top E string.

  50. M.... ....

Madness version is great but there's something about this version...

    M.... ....

Bossanova vs New Wave... both great, but this is the original big time. Who knew?!

    M.... ....

this is the original version of song i was a young kid when it came out its a great song

    M.... ....

    Something Inside so Strong? 😉

    M.... ....

It has something to do with the 70"s....melancholy......i think!!!

    M.... ....

    Its honest!

  51. V.... L....

who played the bass on this? sounds good.

  52. J.... D....

Great song! Takes me right back to the early seventies

    J.... D....

Yeah, it says 1972 so you are right..

  53. j.... g....

    The original and the best

    j.... g....

john griffin madness did a Bette version in my opinion

  54. R.... D....

What the fuck's being gay got to do with this Brilliant song ..and may i say madness brought me here

  55. F.... A....

    yaaay i liked it

  56. T.... ....

    thanks for this
when i first heard the madness song, i knew i had heard it before
it didnt chart in america, but i know that it played on some fm stations

  57. G.... M....

this is the only one and only version of this song fantastic

  58. C.... F....

    Great singer

  59. G.... B....

    beautiful song

  60. q.... ....

A beautiful and gracious gay man

    q.... ....

Elton John's music was gay. Besides musicals I had no idea music could be gay.

    q.... ....

Brilliant & simple song - better than the Madness version by a mile.

    q.... ....

You must see just see sex night and day.

    q.... ....

Bum bandit, but a good singer

  61. t.... c....

I remember this version so well love it.

  62. M.... ....

Wow, such a great song. Even made Madness half-listenable.

  63. t.... ....

me too, Madness was a cover?? I only learnt today! Does Suggs know? But to be fair, this version is stronger the whole way through by being gentler. Though Madness cover has a very strong (and gentle) start, it fades for me by going a bit OTT.

    t.... ....

+tweedy151 Madness know that they were doing cover. Labi Siffre is in the madness music video (he's one of the violinists.)

    t.... ....

i heard that madness didn't know it was already song. It's some coincidence eh?

  64. D.... F....

Doesn't he look like Sam Cooke?!

    D.... F....

    Dick Finch,
    Yes. A little.

    D.... F....

Yes VERY MUCH! I thought it was him in the thumbnail till I saw the name

  65. m.... ....

I hope Madness compensated him or his estate well.

    m.... ....

+michelformika Siffre would get the royalty checks, plus Madness invited him to play a part in the video.

  66. M.... V....

    My mind has been BLOWN!

  67. t.... ....

I did not realise this was Labi's song , what a fantastic man I only new about him in the 80's , I saw him recently on Later Jules singing this song , check it out , absolutely incredible artist

  68. E.... L....

Labi Siffre featured in the Madness video on the violin - love both versions.

    E.... L....

    Emma Lefley

    E.... L....

Ah, after all these years I now realise why they got some apparently random black dude to mime a chorus and violin! Not so random after all!

  69. D.... L....

This isn't a Madness song? Now I'm questioning everything, including gravity and whether the earth is really round.

    D.... L....

The earth isnt round nor is it flat it''s shaped like a bowl

    D.... L....

@David Koon what are you on about mate, its not the time period, he did it like this on purpose. Heroes by Bowie , one of the best produced songs ever was done in the 70's

    D.... L....

He's in the madness music video because he wrote it

    D.... L....

    The earth is flat ?

    D.... L....

David L Rattigan This is the original artist singer and songwriter

  70. T.... F....

    it musn't be love...for 23 people :(

  71. C.... K....

love the guitar play in the end, and yes.. covered many times.... to bad.

  72. O.... A....

Count me among those that had no idea the Madness version was a cover.

    O.... A....

@suck one czito 04 h Not really covers are mainly to make easy money.

    O.... A....

@chazzer8888 covers are to give a song a new version a different outlook on someone else's view on the song and to improve on the original

    O.... A....

Labi sifrfre is in the music video

    O.... A....

@chazzer8888 How does one go about writing new military materials and equipment?

    O.... A....

@Chris Seal why are you asking me ? my comment refers to lazy pop songs released to make easy cash

  73. D.... S....

    Josie x

  74. w.... w....

Feel in love with his voice and songs when I was 10....53 now, still in love....This song sums it all up. enjoy all xx

  75. C.... L....

Always thought it was the best song by Madness! It was a nice version though.

  76. T.... ....

    So very, very sweet~
    Just what I needed.

    T.... ....

Oh such sweetness Poetry..Calm & cute Thx..!"!
Only heard it from Madness..;o) Thx for this Real Deal..!"!

    T.... ....

    @tony langmach
    Enjoy your weekend :)

    T.... ....

    Thx @TheRestfulwind & and A wonderful week-end to You..;0)

  77. E.... C....

This is my special song for Benjie, my very special dog.

  78. s.... ....

This is gonna settle an argument ... they played the Madness version on the radio today and hubby was insisting that Leo Sayer used to sing it.  Well, he was right that it wasn't a Madness original.

  79. T.... ....

    Great song and great singer.
One of my all time favourites.

  80. M.... W....

is it sad that a nappy brand took this song? #huggies dry nights ftw

  81. a.... ....

SERIOUSLY! Is every great song EVER a COVER!?! I only just stumbled on this! Wow.

    a.... ....

Yeah, but he didn't know this until now. In fact, I didn't even know it! :P

    a.... ....

It's like 'Brand New Cadillac'. It is/was one of my fave Clash songs of all time, yet I found out it's actually a punked up cover of an old '50s rockabilly tune (the original has no swearing, lol)!

    a.... ....

labi is in the madness video for it must be love! Look out for him you can't miss him.

    a.... ....

    Edward, Bouchta,
    That's right.
He's hiding his face until the end of the video, where he looks happier than anyone has ever been.

  82. S.... S....

    Thumb player, love it.

  83. a.... ....

Labi Siffre has his own website I wish we could persuade him
to do a concert.  He is amazing - all his songs - superb

  84. E.... C....

This song so perfectly represents how I feel about my first girlfriend. About our incredible, unique love.

  85. Q.... ....

    THE best song EVER!!

  86. A.... S....

Maybe Dre can sample this as well!

  87. c.... ....

I love Madness but the original is light joyful and Labi is delightful to behold.

  88. I.... Z....

    Is this the original?

  89. t.... b....

You cannot beat the original - the cover version by MADNESS is a good attempt and I have no problem listen to them, but this beat it hands down because of its softer tone.

    t.... b....

The softer tone does indeed represent the song's message truer.

    t.... b....

trevor bell you are only saying that because you too are a blackie man

    t.... b....

Totally disagree. Madness version has more sadness in the vocals by far.

    t.... b....

thehomefront and your a whitey man shut the fuck up

    t.... b....

trevor bell madness did better in my opinion

  90. P.... ....

    Capolavoro.

  91. B.... B....

Such a beautiful, clear, natural voice = simply lovely.

  92. p.... w....

play this in a brass band and it says it's a madness composition....how uneducated these people are.

  93. u.... ....

the madness version is more lively

  94. T.... ....

LOVE Madness' version but nothing beats the Original ;) xxxxx

  95. h.... ....

    ich will wieder 1972 haben

  96. b.... ....

why does this only have 328k views

  97. x.... ....

    Dying here.
