Shocking Blue - Poor Boy Lyrics

Poor boy, poor boy are you long way from home
Poor boy are you down and out and all alone
Poor boy, poor boy did you spend your very last dime
Poor boy what you gonna do you ain't got much time
Ain't nobody for better or worse
Can't find nobody who cares
Can't you find a handy noose
You're so lonely and blue

Somebody there for better or worse
Somebody there who cares
You can find your heavy noose
And chateau for you

I know so many of these places! By the Poor Boy gas pumps I met an elderly man so kind, he had the telling and tragic tattoos of Auschwitz and I asked him if he was alright. He smiled, a painful smile of loss and survival, he said, he bought one lottery ticket a day not to win, only to enjoy the "hope. And life is good for you and for me." I asked if he owned the station and he said that is what his winnings gave him, gas and ashes to remind him where his lost loves were. I will always keep this man's smile, his easy smile and his pain and overcoming- I have photographic memory for images in real life, so it is like playing a film for me.. and it may be enough then that this man survived, the last of his name, I use it now too, when I sign in my business, I am signing as the colonial he was, in memoriam. Though my actual name is RaVen DaWn, I always keep this man's image and his story, attached to my every signature as being hell bent for leather, with rhino skin around my heart and alligator hide on my soul, I admit I hunt cold blooded beasts, with my blade as I was taught to do, the tribal ways of my kind. I am Chief and Shaman of my expanding tribe, travel the world at will and am paid to do so, mysteriously, I wonder often where it all comes from, yet I know not to question- as the real concerns are beyond, and I am driven to where the need is for humanity. Thankful, though I have losses and every victory is just another ceasefire, an Accord which is more likely than not to be broken so I return and then -I am who am, that I am the one who must often sacrifice my innocence and cut off the head of the snake. Peace even -it has casualties. Peace in degrees, the ends must justify. This man of my name, I will not post here, yet his spirit drives me that no such abomination may happen again, and trust not any who says they have become reformed, as once the taste of blood and power are mixed, the blood stays upon the blade. Thus in good will yet to be aware of the reality, the harsh truth I must every day live with, this verse I have published and auctioned as well, all that went to a cause overseas. I am of brotherhood and kindred spirits -a warrior born reluctant yet what ever it takes, there will be peace. Thank you Ijusdunkel for reminding me that I am not so alone in this path nobody seems to have trod, this I say, as I see no footprints, no empty beer or soda cans, no wrappers and no rappers- and the children of the forest live, so quaint yet aware, as they tap the surface of the lake and the rivers too, to see if a croc is waiting to eat them and otherwise they will get pales of water for their villages, and I will be there to protect them as well. Yet I fight often the devil in his playground...

    Another Shot of
    Gun Grease

    Four mags
empty and to the nearest town I go,

    The boys at
    the checkpoints, they all know

    To live
another day, look the other way.

    I’m
    coming through.

    There’s a
bar over by the burning police car,

    A place to
    go do as I please.

    Bartender,
    bartender,

    Make it a
    double.

    I’ll have
    another shot of gun grease.

    Hey! You
    there, in the churches,

    Get the fuck
    UP off your knees!

    Time to
    please the almighty appetite

    With a
    bigger body count.

    Wrath and
    wraith, have thou faith-

    Yes, he
plays the numbers, checks the dailies…

    Your prayers
    are delivered,

    and your
    agony, he sees.

    I’ll have
    another shot of gun grease.

    Gun grease,
    please;                …. gun grease

    against the wall~

I first heard this song as part of a three-song medley:

    Long and Lonesome Road
    California Here I Come
    Poor Boy

Maybe someone can make that edit here.

What was the name of the female singer, is she still singing in a band? A lot of the rockers have gotten their bands back together and some go on tour, etc. I used to listen to a few of their tunes on the radio back in the day.

    M.... C....

Mariska is long dead...sorry. They're one of the best bands in the world. Gotta love the Dutch!

    M.... C....

Mariska Veres born in The Hague of Hungarian father and German mother. She has always lived in the same house. She died in 2006 of a very fast cancer of the liver.

  11. V.... ....

Makes you regret that the band became less adventurous on later albums.

    The best!

MUSICA CON ALUCINACIONES, MUY PSICODELICA, EXCELENTE.........

  18. T.... A....

    That's called a tanpura, it's a drone instrument.

  19. P.... ....

Noticed a few people asking for similar tunes to the intro...one i know is 'the progressive seekers'-'western drag'

  20. D.... S....

It's not a flanging rhythm gtr but an Indian instrument (not sitar). I think CCR's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" has a similar color, but more "bluesy".

  21. g.... ....

The first half of this tune is awesome. Actually, can anyone recommend some further listening that sounds like the first half of this tune? i.e. the flange rhythm guitar, that drumming style, the sparse bass playing. What else sounds like this?

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

  22. v.... m....

Brilliant song of the brilliant band !

  25. J.... M....

Un tema rock, desconocido por estos lados, con un sabroso inicio instrumental y luego la entrada de Marisca Veres y compañia.
