And, thankfully due to YouTube more and more people of the younger generation are able to tune in to these tremendous vocalists of the older generation to really see and appreciate their fantastic talent. Dame Shirley Bassey is certainly amongst the top of the pack when it comes to vocal abilities. She was 72 years old here! Unbelievable!

A legend! The second best singer of the 20th century, after Judy Garland. And I am a straight woman.

Eugenia: Dame Shirley and Judy Garland were friends, and Garland took young Shirley under her wing back in the 1960's. She offered some great advice for Shirley as she was just starting her career. At one of the Bassey concerts that Shirley attended, the people wanted Judy to come up on stage and sing. Shirley was very gracious and gave Garland the stage. That's the only time that Shirley did that, or would even consider allowing another artist to basically take over her show, but this is because of the great friendship they had. Judy is one of my all-time favorite singers, but Shirley is actually the better singer, technically, as she has greater vocal range. People have to remember that Shirley is in her 70's here in this clip. With that said, it gets down to everyone's personal preference in singers. I think they both are GREAT!

My favorite artist forever since I first heard a record by her in 1985. I was from a tiny place in the NORTH of Norway, The Lofoten Islands. And moved abroad to Israel (it was also the first time for me ever going abroad!) I had never ever even heard her name before! From the first second I heard her voice came out in the livingroom of my parents in law I was "sold" She capured my "heart" and touched strings within me that had never ever been touched before! It's really nobody like her in the whole world ❤️ She Makes me cry, smile, laugh, like I said: She touches different strings within me with her performance ..... , She is magic and gave/still give me goosebumps in pure joy! Love you Shirley SO much ~ It is no one like you in this whole wide world‼️Thank you so much for everything 🙏❤️

I simply get taken over and drawn into her emotions the moment she opens her mouth. Such a gracious lady who never compromised her principles once. She sure could pick her material and submerge herself in it all the was....what a Grands Damme..... she never forgot who she was there for, her audience. A class act all the way for a longer singing career than most only dream of attaining, and she often mentored new, nervous voices that had the promise of greatness in them.
